Playing as a quarian engineer most of the time , I don't get 1st because I mostly freeze enemies before anything else.
If it's frozen and someone else can smash it , I let anyone near me do it and go to the next target, if it's something I can't freeze right away , I slow it , strip the shield then freeze again, I also freeze/slow anything that other players are shooting to make the fights shorter ( AoE freeze with 10% more damage).
The freeze/fire combo also make sure that anything around my target is at least slowed.
I do my job , more than my job in fact , which is to make sure the team lives to the end .

I don't get the best score , but most of the time the team lives because of me.

I do play a little more cautiously, even with Krogan.

That means I'm usually 4th, though not with a terrible score.
But I'm very focused on target kills, 4 or 1 hack objectives, and reviving team-mates.

When things go wrong, I'm often the last player standing, and I save missions with a <5 seconds target missile, or a solo wave clear (cautiously of course).

The 'full extraction' makes me most happy. That matters, not the score order.

I like being at the top and that's what she said. ^_^ But do I care about being at the top? Nope.

As long as you care about objectives or revives first, it is only good to care about score.

Honestly? Yes. But just to feel better myself. In games, I always care about being the best, or atleast peforming well. (Not a good attitude, I know) I'll feel quite bad if i'm the last on the scoreboard, since I'll feel like a burden to the team, and instantly feel the need to improve myself.

But, I don't care about anyone else's score, because in truth I know score isn't everything. Someone who's getting much less points than others can still be useful, doing stuff like getting devices, resurrecting people, and overall just being a good team-player. I've only played bronze/silver so far, but I've never felt the need to kick anyone other than afkers, as long as they're trying, they'll be nice to have around.

What I don't appereciate is the people who prioritize points over everything else. Now, I seek kills and such, biggest groups to keep me busy and I admit I propably killsteal a bit, sometimes I'm too focused on survival of me and others to care. But when there's an objective, I do my best to do it instead. But so many times someone is outside all the time during the hacking, killing the enemies to top the scoreboard instead of helping his team directly. Those are the people who got the wrong idea.

So yes, I care about being the first on the scoreboard, it what makes me feel good after a match, as then I feel useful. But I know points don't matter for much, with bronze/silver anyway.

I just don't like being last, or below by a significant margin. I don't care if I'm top dog, but Iike to feel like I'm pulling my own weight.

I'd be fine with the idea of people satisfying their egos with the scoring system if the scoring system was a reliable indicator of what that person contributed to the team. However, there's no way around the fact that many beneficial actions don't actually reward you on the scoreboard and some detrimental actions actually do.

i came to care about being #1 by accident because it kept consistently happening ever since i got my hands on the valiant. So my attitude ended up evolving into just expecting that every time. The problem with this for me is that now whenever i experiment with other classes or playstyles i am turned off by not achieving the same results as i can with an Infiltrator and a Valiant. That said, my valiant was recently outscored for the first time by someone with a WIDOW of all things! It was a humbling experience.. i long for more people to put me in my place so i can shake this eltist attitude and play sum support for once or something.

No. I don't want to be last but I don't care if I am first. I only look at the scoreboard when trying a new class or spec as a gauge to see if there's room for improvement, or if the run feels a lot more difficult than it should be I want to see if there's someone who could be doing more.

My favorite runs are where everyone is within a thousand points of each other and no one does anything stupid putting themselves in harms way just to try and get points so they can say they are first.

Sometimes I check just to see how i'm fairing against the other heavy damage dealers. I never let score get to me, and most of the time I never really check unless i'm aiming to be the top score...though those particular games always stress me out of it gets too competitive.

Yes. I take pride in my score and am super-competitive.

Competing with your team is not a bad thing - competition breeds results.

I shouldn't but I do. It makes me feel a bit chuffed if I'm up there. Mind you, I'm not too bothered if I'm last if all the scores are roughly equal.

Someone is always going to be last. It doesn't mean you're being carried. Engineers usually I see at the top. I'm usually carried in my first couple of matches.

It depends upon the class I'm playing. Sometimes I'll be in the top two. If I'm playing pure shooter (infiltrator) I'll be on the bottom -- I know I got more than 25 kills -- I was in the mid 40s. I'm just not as fast as the younger ones.

I'm with Tangster. If you think that you have to be number one everytime then try playing buy yourself and see how far you get. It's a team effort. The support players matter just as much as the the ones with the most kills. If you feel you have to be competitive in everything you do then you must have low self esteem. If your being competitive every once in awhile that's ok but being so competitive with everything you do really shows weakness in ppl.

Not that much.

If I'm scoring about as much as the rest of the team combined, then I care.

I think the ones who can solo Silvers and Golds do not care about their score.

Project much?

Even if this were true, and I don't think it is, it wouldn't be a reason to care about the score in ME3 MP. The system in place is a poor one that won't actually tell you much beyond how many killing shots you got. The right class could leech for half a game and then steal enough kills to look like they were hard at work the whole time.

Edit: I will say the score is useful in identifying leechers early.

Lol...

I care about succesfully completing the match first and foremost. My ego is satisfied by knowing I actually helped during said match.

Besides, as many have pointed out, with the way the scoring system works, you can finish top and be a really bad teamate, while you can also finish last and be the true MVP.
