i only use the score to improve my personal skill level. depending on the class that i'm using, i try to beat the last score i had with that character, for the sake of personal improvement. it makes me work harder. i don't aim to be first, i aim to beat my last score. it pushes me to try different strategies to come out on top. technically, it's not a good indicator for contribution though.

Score =/= skill (usually). So much goes into it that isn't skill-related (or is only partially skill-related).

Your class, your build, your teammates' classes/builds, whether you're setting up or detonating explosions, what weapons you're using, if you got vortex'd by a Banshee at the beginning of a round, and a lot more that I'm not going to take the time to list.

So while it's nice to see your name at the top of the list, I don't really care unless someone is very lopsided compared to the rest of the team (in either direction). If you're playing a Gold match and you've got 16,000 points compared to everyone else's in the 80,000's...then you obviously didn't do much.

I prefer my matches to be somewhat even. They seem to go smoothest when they're like that. I don't really care if my name is at the top, bottom, or in the middle so as long as it's respectable - and my scores are always respectable.

On Bronze, yes.
On Silver, yes but to a lesser degree.
On Gold, no.

I really don't care as long as we succeed. I do find I'm at a the top more often than not. I remember once the person below me had the Gold for headshots and kills and I had silver...I didn't understand how I outscored them...

Let me guess, you went all rambo and just rushed spawn points.  So you got to the spawn points first - big deal.  Not surprised no one respected you and you got kicked.

bad players rush spawn points lol ok. i know what kind of player you are .... cough camper.

You can get away with rambo rushing spawn points and ignoring your teammates on bronze/silver.  On Gold, a player doing that IS a bad player.  The smart players know to keep a perimeter and support each other, whether you are defending a static position, or whether you are moving AS A TEAM.

Wrong.  A good player rushes spawn points.  The fact that bad players also rush spawn points, doesn't mean it's a bad tactic.

Well said.  Some people haven't figured this out yet, leading to stupid play trying to get #1 on the scoreboard.

I am too split on the issue. On one hand I like being #1 simply because... well, who doesn't like being the best among her/his team? And on the other hand whenever someone else has taken the lead I'm not disappointed (especially on Gold) because that means that the person is able to take some more pressure for the sake of the other teammates - in other words I feel more secure and confident that we'll make it.

Of course I like it. I won't try for it to the detriment of the team though

Don't care as long as we complete the mission (and get the credits) and everyone on the team was doing their best and contributing.

Rushing a spawn point solo is always bad and generally leads to a quick death.  If you don't die, it's because the rest of the team followed you and covered your behind.  I always laugh when one person goes rambo and the rest of the team decides not to follow, and he quickly gets flanked and dies.  Of course, I'm talking Gold.

Rushing a spawn point as a team and moving from one position to another, where people are covering each other's flanks, is perfectly fine.

I don't feel like I have to finish top to be playing well. As long as I'm not last (at least not by a huge margin), I'm fine.
