Hm, good point.

Not really. At the end of the game, we all get the same creds.
Yep

Yesterday I promoted my AA so today I did a quick Bronze Lvl1. all the other three douces where outside of the hack zone (two of them dying, lvl16-18, one rage-quit, may be nobody revived him) to try to top the score while I had reapers up to my ****.....
really?
I stepped outside of the zone for a while just for fun and nobody stepped in...
Was I the "living decoy" today? too bad I did not die... (yes there was an infiltrator...)

For example, playing on Dagger, I usually set myself the task of holding one of the flanks (assuming the team is staying in the building); I'm happy if I manage it, and unhappy if I get stomped on by an Atlas.

Now that was fun, not as fun as slapping people around who think their N7 rating makes them good, but still fun.
Oh and god forbid anyone comes in using a Carni cause then it's on like Donkey Kong. Blasto doesn't like anyone else using his 44 magnum, only Dirty Harry can get away with this.

If I really try to get the highest score, though, then I do get one aswell

You can get away with rambo rushing spawn points and ignoring your teammates on bronze/silver. On Gold, a player doing that IS a bad player. The smart players know to keep a perimeter and support each other, whether you are defending a static position, or whether you you moving AS A TEAM.
BRAVO!!!!!!!!

A little of this.
I can't care about being #1 on the scoreboard yet because I can't get past being #2 on Gold yet.
If I ever am #1 on the scoreboard, there's probably something wrong with the match tbh.

For those saying score is not a good measure of contribution... you're just lying to yourself to justify your lack of skill. Its not the perfect measure of contribution, but its a pretty damn good one. If you're not killing/damaging/debuffing dudes, you are very likely doing something wrong.

What'ts the point of the scoring system anyway? Does it affect credits or exp earned?
Nope it just massages the ego. Well I guess I could have phrased that better.

What I DO actually care about, however, is always getting the Gold Medal for five grabs.

Actually, score IS the exp, the total of all the scores is the EXP...

Beside that I don't see the score as an indicator for skill. You would have to play the same class with the same build and weapon to really be able to compare. And even then, the one who sets up tech/biotic combos gets more points than the one who detonates it.

1. there is some one else playing as the same class and race as I am
2. im very low level
3. im playing as a "lower tier" class and someones using a "high tier" class
4. if someone has a n7 of 1500+
5. if i get last in a game (hasnt happend for a loooong time)
I tend to get competitive.

Score itself and not rank? Silver and broze? Yeah, I like to top. Gold? I just make sure I survive, scores are completely moot.

Now, what I DO care about is a loser who does nothing for the first half of the match, then gets indignant when he starts getting kick votes. Yeah, you're gonna be kicked if you just #### around the first half of the game, then suddenly come to life and STILL can't get your act together enough to get extracted with the rest of us.
Silver Random/Random, in case you were wondering.
Needless to say, I flagged him as "avoid" and voted to kick when we got back to the lobby, which made him very unhappy. He cussed up a storm at me and even PM'd me after I left the lobby.
You'd think a geth would be more rational than that.

This. Especially if they look to have the same setup/weapon and mods.
I don't so much care about always coming in first, as long as I don't finish last.

But by aiming to be at the top (without ignoring the team obviously, I'll always revive people, cover people, get objectives etc) I find that I contribute and perform better!
I get most annoyed when I die too often and in increasingly stupid ways, especially if i am across the map, because i dont like to ruin the wave just because everyone has to keep reviving me (doesnt happen often though). This usually makes me rage medi-gel.
