I've been seeing a lot of people not paying attention to where they're posting things.

This forum is specifically titled "NO SPOILERS ALLOWED".

That means no spoilers people.  Pay attention.

For those confused, a spoiler is ANY INFORMATION about the game.  NPC names/descriptions, event descriptions, discussion of special moments, those things are completely off limits.

Again, please watch your posting in this forum, we have two other general type forums (one for gameplay mechanics and one about the official story speciflcally) that allow for discussion of topics that contain spoilers.

Any posts about the official campaign belong in this forum:
Dragon Age: Origins Official Campaign Forum (SPOILERS)

This forum is for fans of Dragon Age: Origins to actively discuss story or other discussion elements that may spoil the game for other fans. This forum is open to registered game owners. Please register your copy of Dragon Age: Origins to post here.

Any gameplay focused posts that contain ANY information about the official campaign belong in this forum:
Dragon Age: Origins Gameplay Forum (SPOILERS)

This forum is for fans of Dragon Age: Characters to discuss gameplay
elements. Subjects such a character builds, NPC leveling, tactics,
combat strategies, etc and other gameplay related topics are welcome.
WARNING: May contain story spoilers. This forum is open to registered
game owners. Please register your copy of Dragon Age: Origins to post
here.

In order to register your game, go to this page and register the appropriate version of dragon age.

When you DO post in the correct spoiler forums, do NOT include the actual spoiler information in the topic title, refer to it indirectly instead.

Just to be clear, this also means posting "Spoiler" in the thread title, or apologizing because you didn't register your game (for whatever reason) and therefore cannot post in the spoiler forums is no excuse.

To be extra clear.

Posting a spoiler in this forum is unacceptable (for any reason I don't care if your house burned down and you don't have the CD key anymore and didn't register it before the house burned). If you are found to be doing it repeatedly, a warning will be issued. If the warning is not honored, further action will be taken.

I applaud this confirmation of what no spoilers means and the ongoing attempt to enforce those parameters in this forum.

What would really make my day would be an attempt to modify the behavior in the Gameplay forums to get people to stop posting blatant spoilers right in the topic title there.

This forum (gameplay) was not set up specifically as a SPOILER forum (where you could go specifically to get spoiler info)- but was instead set up for gameplay (builds and mechanics) and designated as allowing spoilers in the process of discussion.

It may be too much to ask but if a firm hand could be applied to encourage people not to post spoilers in topic titles (where they cannot be ignored) then people who have not completed the game would not have to avoid the entire forum out of fear of having major spoilers thrown in their face just by entering the forum and they could tread carefully among topics to gather useful information or to post there own threads in which they ask that spoilers be avoided.

I completely agree with what has been said but posting a thread devoted to the Return to Ostagar in this section of the forums is just begging for spoilers.

Could I suggest a "Spoiler" tag in the report a post function? None of the current options address someone posting a spoiler.

I once reported one with "Harassment" tag, because that's how I felt. I even mentioned once in a thread getting the answer of another saying he'd always tag spoilers as "Terrorism". I was actually surprised not to find a "Spoiler" tag, but I guess one of the mentioned would do until such a tag appears in the report section.

P.S.: "Enchantment!!"

I've used the "Harassment" tag once as well and the "Cheater" tag once.  In the description I'll say they were posting a spoiler, but sometimes I wonder if I am getting myself into trouble with the mods by using those tags.

This. DLC should get its own forum imo (with a spoilers warning).

Thanks Astorax - it's been a bugbear of mine too :)

Especially those spoilers buried in what look to be fairly innocuous posts about combat tactics, bugs etc.

What you use as a tag when reporting the post won't get you in trouble as long as the complaint is a valid one.

Only people that spam report posts that aren't deserving of being reported get in trouble (and we honestly don't get much of that).

In addition, if you can't find your thread/post, check the "Jump To... Your Posts" drop down list at the top of the forum. It may have been moved, whether due to spoilers or a variety of other reasons that made it more suitable for another forum (tech, gameplay, etc). Don't repost your topic thinking it's a site glitch.

I had big problems with this on my first playthrough. Quit coming here for a while until I finished.

WTF???

Uh, that's not really a spoiler. I just said literally "an event with [insert character] later." That's a pretty extreme spoiler policy, since absolutely nobody could guess what happens based on what I said.  I could have said "an event happens with Morrigan", "an event happens with Logain", "an event happens with Arl Eamon", and it would be the same. Don't be absurd.

You know what's even more hilarious? That spoiler (actually there are several references to it in that thread) is still sitting in that thread. I guess if I were modding I'd be more worried about that than "[insert character] did something later"

Perhaps someone hasn't even picked up the game yet, and is looking for information, notices this forum title, and comes to check out how to properly post in this forum. See underlined text below, from the ORIGINAL POST.

There is.

Getting people to follow it is the battle :-)

I enjoy the forum, although some of the whiners are a PITA and at times moderators can be a bit anally retentive regarding what they consider to be a spoiler and in locking down a thread.
That said, for the most part the moderators do good work and I appreciate their efforts. There are some good members who strive to help others and enjoy a lively conversation, for which I am also grateful :P

Pointless.
By the time something will be done about it, a zillion people will have read it and it will be on page 7896 of the forums.
You're far better off PM' ing a moderator.

Here's a couple thoughts on how to cut down the spoilers in topic titles...

How about a big bold impossible to miss banner on the New Topic screen warning about not posting spoilers in the topic title?

Or a pre-screen with the warning that you have to click past to get to the topic posting screen (like the one often found on tech forums telling you how to search first and exactly what info to put in your post if you decide it's necessary to create the topic you are contemplating)?

Then to put some teeth in the warning you could offer to give all those who violate the policy a three day vacation from posting in the forums to help them remember next time...Posted Image

While I completely understand where you're coming from, I really don't need ANOTHER popup.

More security leads to more violence, and less freedom.

I think it was Astorax who said this in another thread concerning the same issue. The best thing to do when you spot a spoiler is to simply not respond. The thread falls off the main page and then gets lost. I like this approach myself.  I have issue with gimping myself because of a few losers.
