Ok I've been wanting to get in these games for a while but I'm having some serious problems with Mass Effect 1 that i can't find help any where else. Early in the game, right when you talk to Joker to go to the citiadel, I loose all chance of control. After they say they will transfer the Normandy to an Alliance tower, the screen goes blank, I hear some conversation but nothing else and no other responces from the game are made.

Here are my system specs taken from Speccy:

Operating System MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU Intel Celeron 900  @ 2.20GHz 57 °C Penryn 45nm Technology
RAM 2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18)
Motherboard Hewlett-Packard 1605 (CPU) 56 °C
Graphics Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60Hz) Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Hard Drives 244GB Seagate ST9250410AS (SATA) 35 °C
Optical Drives JIZMR FWXM74LM SCSI CdRom Device hp DVD RW AD-7701H
Audio Realtek High Definition Audio

I would be extremly greatful if someone could figure this out for me :(
Oh and i can't do the chang set affinity trick because my laptop only has one core. no chance there.

The game cannot allow anything as bad as Intel's poor excuse for video to try running the game, exactly as per the reuirements and Readme files:

Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista

Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD

2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

ATI Radeon X1650 XT or better (X1050, X1300, X1300 Pro, *X1550*, HD 2400, HD 3100, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4270, HD 4350, HD 4550, and (probably) HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements) no video device with Intel's name on it is supported in any way, shape, or form.

This is a video of the Normandy Approach to the Citadel. When you say you lose control, do you mean that you can hear everything in that video, but have never seen it before?

Although your video card is a cause for concern, the fact that you've played enough to get you that far makes me think of a similar issue I had with ME2 until it was patched. If I get time, I'll try my theory out and get back to you. Just be sure to give me a lot of info on WHAT exactly happens video wise in relation to what you hear. (eg: Tell joker to go to the citadel, video; you hear a 'pew' sound, no video; Joker speaks, no video; Ashley speaks still no video etc.)

Edit: I've not had it happen in ME1 between videos, but I have had the video occasionally cut out and dropping my video output, while still producing SFX or music loops that sound fine. If you haven't yet, try re-loading your last save and give it another go.

I loose control by there is a giant black screen where nothing is happening and I've left the game for an hour and nothing happens, I don't know if its loading or what its just there and i can't do anything without killing the game in task manager.

The game is SUPPOSED to run poorly, crash, freeze, and do all manner of bad behaviors when forced to run on inadequate hardware.

I've tried a couple things, but they won't work as a solution. All I've got for suggestions for in game tweaks is ensure you are patched up to date (Install 1.01a first, then 1.02 if not) and disable 'film grain' in the options>graphics in game menu.

Edit: Try this post, maybe it'll just work and get you by. Good luck.

Like Gorath says, your CPU and GPU are both inadequate. Even if you somehow get past the freeze you are experiencing, you will undoubtedly continue to have the same problem recur throughout the game :(
