N7 rating does matter though. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

N7 <120: alarm - almost certainly too inexperienced or undergeared for Gold, exceptions extremely rare
N7 120-300: caution - check loadout and weapon levels, less caution necessary if N7 is exactly a multiple of 30
N7 300-1000: probably fine - as long as weapon choices aren't completely retarded, give them a chance
N7 >1000: caution - person is either obsessed with epeen, hasn't noticed promotion doesn't do much, is crap at builds so has to constantly respec, or is just going for the singleplayer war assets

Doesn't matter to me. I promoted only during that "challenge" weekend. If I play random games, I use a powerful class and don't care about N7, weapons or classes of my random teammates. If I play with people from my friend list, I know what to expect..so either way, I win. lol

Top 50 on PSN here I used to be around top 15 but quit for 2 weeks :( anyways without a MIC they have to be above 1000 or with MIC and decent weapons above level 120

When I joined 3 months ago I meet no discrimination at all. I barely know how to shoot but where to go is absolutelu mysterious. It takes even long time to relize there are some task to do like infiltration point and data uploadas and how they affect in palying. medigel is completely mysterious.

And this is my first action game and I am 50 year retired old fart.

N7 rank does allow you to make certain reasonable inferences about a person, but not in the way that many people seem to think it does (e.g. high N7 rank != better.  Rather, certain ranges of N7 ranks allow you to draw certain conclusions.  For example, if someone is less than N7 120, you know they haven't played all classes much, nor played even one class long enough to level the others up via character cards, and is almost certainly a fairly new player.  However, with a rank 300 and rank 400, there is no way of knowing who played longer or who plays better from N7 rank).  In fact, as some other posters have mentioned, you should probably be more cautious of players with extremely high N7 rank rather than people with middle of the road ranks with a zero at the end (if there's not a zero at the end, they're still levelling something).

I don't really see how a lvl 20 with an N7 180 with fully upgraded weapons is any better than a lvl 20 with an N7 1054 and fully upgraded weapons... Other than the fact that you've been leveling more than you need to

My N7 is 1100+ and i still suck most of the time, grenades always get me... i don't know whats going on behind me....brutes sneak up on me...... i usually get insta killed at least once per match.... i never seem to be able to grab from behind cover...... my revive function never works,so it looks like i'm standing over you gloating.... i'm always sticking to walls instead of running.... can't aim with a sniper (which is a shame because i like playing that class it keeps me out of the way:whistle:)....so i only play adept on gold because it dosn't really take any skill.

I'm only 1100 because i play a lot since launch and i thought it would actually make some difference in SP to promote. Now i've stopped bothering.

Same, been sitting at 330 since the promote weekend. No reason to promote again.

Agree to some extent except for one scenario you omitted or ignored.

Some folks who promote often do it for the challenge since playing a level 20 character has become stale and boring.  It is as simple as that. When you unlocked all the weapons and characters you really wanted what is left is games with friends and pugs and even that alone gets repetitious.

So, for some promoting often and playing with the handicaps of an unlevelled character is their ultimate personal challenge.  When you look at someone with higher N7 rankings don't forget or ignore that perspective as there are quite a few of us who really don't care that much about the N7 rank but rather see it as a consequence of a new level of challenge we give ourselves.

In the end: To each their own.

Doesn't matter. Skill =/= N7 rating. It's not like N7 was TrueSkill or ELO rating. It's only a god damn number based on the time you played and any competitive player know time played doesn't translate into skill. Else most casual in games wouldn't suck that bad even year after the game was launch.

I dont really agree, I can understand likeing the chalenge, thats great so do I. But I think that when your to the point that your using a matrix like this to decide if your going to play with somebody, IMHO, your taking the GAME (key point here,) WAY to seroiusly.

To me the OP is an idiot.  If you don't want to worry about kicking randoms with an N7 level that is unacceptable to you, then only play in private lobbies with your friends. (That is, assuming your friends can keep up with your amazingly wonderful awesomeness. *gag*)  I just solved your problem.  You're welcome.

As for me, I'm content with my N7 rating of 180.  I'd rather keep all of my characters at level 20 so when I play gold I can either help cause tech explosions with my engineer or sentinel, biotic explosions with my adept or sentinel, or help do objectives and draw aggro with my infiltrator.  This to me seems to be much more valuable to the people I play with then my N7 rating.  And of course running around in Bronze matches with my Batarian soldier throwing ballistic blades in all of the enemies faces just feels good.

Ive probably only got 60 hours total under my belt playing. Im at 155 and staying. In the first few hours of playing I got a Geth Infil/Black Widow/GPS/Scorpion, and really havent had much incentive to play any other character since moving this guy to 20.

I would be glad to get kicked by those who fancy N7 ratings and apparently haven't figured out something like respec cards exist. I don't like playing with ignorant morons anyway.

I play with an n7 140 im willing to bet is better than half the people over n7 1000. N7 rank means nothing, unless its below 120.
