Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls were hard as a wizard
. I beat them first go with my Knight, Pyromancer and Cleric characters. As a wizard it took me at least 10 tries. Solaire was a great aid during this fight.

While I agree with the first bolded statement, I have to disagree with the second.

My experience with Solaire during the Ornstein and Smough battle:

-50% chance he'll get lost outside the fog door somewhere and not even show up for the fight.
-if he DOES manage to find his way into the fight, he'll no doubt target Smough, while I want him to go after Ornie.
-He'll get maybe one or two hits in and then decides he's taking a break to work on his somersaulting. Smough gladly flattens him. You can argue that he's there to distract the other boss, but if he's only there for about 8 seconds, there's not much distracting going on.

Solaire was equally as helpful in the final boss battle. Almost wish I never saved him, but it's Solaire...I'd feel terrible if I didn't.

I don't think any other video game boss challenged me as much as Ornstein and Smough. Some frustrated me, like Deadly Premonition's stream of three end bosses (one being a freaking QTE, which I loathe) but nothing like Dark Souls' duo. Even the rest of that game was a cakewalk compared to Anor Londo.

Oddly in my playthrough he would last long against Smough. However as my wizard - in the battle where I won - I targetted Smough first and Solaire dealt with Ornstein. Smough killed him however with some giant lightning burst during his "super giant" stage.

This sums up my thoughts of S&O:

On to other bosses now and I'd have to say that Ninja Gaiden contained many tough bosses. I didn't even beat it because I couldn't get past one boss. That was years ago. I wonder if I could beat it now...

The one I worked for. Oh wait......
A few come to mind with respect to gaming.

Aries in God of War, goodness knows how long I spent on that before beating him finally (yeah, I suck at gaming, your point being?).

The Ethereal Queen and then Dirna in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. Spent forever on the Ethereal Queen, and just about got to within beating her with one hit having spent a very sleepless night to whittle down her health bar....and get one hit killed by her. That still makes me fume.....

Any final boss in a Neo Geo fighting game.

Same goes for the Mortal Kombats I've played.

Marauder Shields from ME3!!!

First time I fought the Broodmother in DAO, I found 'her' pretty tough to beat. Possibly because I was so distracted by my revulsion.

Hardest boss fight I've ever done though, is the final one in Heavenly Sword. I'm generally not very good at that sort of game, so I found it rather tough.

The Lieutenant (AKA Lou Tenant) from Fallout 1.

He was just a nightmare for me. I still remember the first time I encountered him. I agreed to follow Harry simply out of curiosity and holy bejeezus did this boss catch me off guard. He instant killed me for 500 hp! Even when I was actually prepared for Mariposa (RIP Dogmeant), he would constantly own me. Awesome voice actor, though...

I'd have to say for me it was Demogorgon in Watchers Keep from baldurs gate ToB. That was a ridiculously challenging boss fight.

Also I never raided vanilla WoW but wasn't C'Thun literally impossible for a time? Ulduar pre nerf, some of those bosses were brutal (Firefighter comes to mind).

I found Draconis a pretty hard case to crack in Baldur's Gate ToB. It's a toss of luck every time I face him, and the odds always seemed against me.  Plus, I believe he cheats.

- Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 2. I think I died over 100 times before I managed to defeat him.

- Wesker from Resident Evil 5. Me and my friend lost so many brain cells for fighting him. Whoever designed the Professional difficulty needs to be strung up by the balls.

Uh-oh. I haven't even got there yet...progress is kind of slow as it is.

Do you play online? My internet is not reliable enough for Dark Souls apparently, because I never saw a non-NPC summon sign or was invaded once. Perhaps Ornstein and Smough are easier to handle with another actual person.

They're not impossible though, don't give up. :)

No, I'm very skilled. Doing well, enough...just didn't play it much lately cause of work. It's amazingly refreshing :)

Not if you know how to cheese em. I beat that bridge demon by making him jump off the bridge.

But for me, Orphan from FFXIII was really hard. His instant kill move (aptly named Death) is a b!tch unless you have the right items. With them though he's not that hard. Not, the collectorship platform barrage on insanity in ME2? Hardest thing ever in a video game for me. It's the only thing in a game I have never been able to beat.

Along that line of thought (skewered through my thought processes) Psycho Mantis was impossible to beat. It was like....he knew what I was going to do! :P

Refreshing is the exact word I'd use as well. While a lot of games can be challenging, most of the time that "challenge" comes from poor controls/camera, bad level design or cheap AI. Dark Souls has none of that. You die, it's your fault, and you know it's your fault. And that's a wonderful thing.

Okay...other tough bosses...the Kraken from Shining Force II, especially when I always have a self-imposed challenge of not losing any characters. I will reload if anyone falls, even if it pretty much means nothing. (Wasn't hard to make the jump to Fire Emblem, at least.)
Your whole team is smooshed on this tiny little platform to start, with the Kraken head itself waaaaay out in the ocean where only your winged units can reach, of which only one can do decent damage. All the while, the kraken's arms and legs surround the little platform and start picking off your team. Sure, you can load Peter up with healing seeds and a power ring and finish the fight in a few minutes, but where's the fun in that?

Didn't get to touch this boss until the following expansion, but this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread. Oh, BC-era WoW, how I miss you.

With rpgs that are non-linear its hard to come to a precise determination a lot of times because obviously it sometimes has to do with your level when fighting them.

Which may be why, currently, I'm getting completely and utterly owned....by an absolutely beautiful butterfly, of all things.
