I always wondered, I am for instance italian but I'd never add _ITA after my nick, polish and russian players instead appear to do that most of the times, is there any particular reason? Patriotism perhaps? Can any polish/russian player explain it to me?

Yes, we are made of blood and milk that leaked from rusty pipes of our motherlands.
Hence the patriostism
Seriously though, you've gotta stop assuming.

Russians and Poles are some of the most patriotic people on the earth.

That's why.

Go tell a second-generation Russian migrant that Russia is a ****hole. Count how many teeth you have left then report back to this thread.

More importantly: why does everybody add their year of birth in their names?

You would think that if it was such a great place they would still be there?

The young celibrate their youth.

The old want the gravitas that their years deserve.

You'll find this everywhere.

I've been to Vladivostok, my favorite part was when someone I know was walking in the street like certain people tend to do in the states.

He wont make that mistake again.

"Most of the times".

Nah, I don't think so. I'm sure you just saw some guys with that and assume that "most" do the same.

If you ever see a Spanish guy with "SP" or "ES"... it won't mean that "most spanish" do that.

A reflection of the complex morphology of the languages and their desire to show the world just how complex that morphology is.

I stick my country after my name so people know where I'm from. Simple as that. I doubt a Russian, for example, wants to be playing a peer to peer shooter with someone from Australia.

I used to add _ITA when I was...16, 17? But it was mostly because back in those days everyone and their mothers did it.
Anyway, the most I recall seeing is _CZ, for czech players.

You're forgetting the most common one: "NL".
Pretty sure it's a law that if you are from the Netherlands, any nickname you use has to include "NL".

Because thats exactly how an Ozzie would say it IRL.

"'Ay, YOU!"'

So its like we're saying hello to the world.
