DA Game Profile Diagnostics Page Available

But nevertheless, if the missing files (that's what those error codes are, check your profile diagnostics tab) belong to a character that you've deleted - there's nothing you can do, they seem to be a permanent fixture at the moment. If they belong to a character you're still using, and you're on a pc, just keep playing with the character and hopefully they'll eventually upload correctly. Files only upload on manual saves (not quicksaves) and it may take some time. If you're using a console, there are known issues (I'm not sure if that's with both consoles or only xbox), and the files only upload once (after creation), so if they didn't upload correctly on that occasion, they never will.
If you want more detail, reread my first sentence. Read previous posts in this very thread.

These questions have been answered in this thread already, but the short answers are "excess" and "no."Alozaps wrote...
... but what are the other files (31, 17)? Are those files out of my control?

However, for those who have characters with way too many files attached - 5 up to 30 or so. There is a way to fix it that works for me. I am on the pc, so I don't know if it would work for a console.
First, delete the character in the 'manage character' screen. Then go to the character in game and make a new hard save (don't bother changing equipment, or levelling up or anything) in a new slot (don't save over your existing save).
Wait until the character re-uploads to the server, then check the diagnostics page. Sometimes it will be fixed on this first try, but often not. If not, do it again. And again. For me it usually gets rid of the excess files in the first two tries. But it has sometimes taken more than 4, and once around 8. Nevertheless, it does work.
But, of course, it doesn't prevent it happening again. I just went through the whole process again in the last two days. If your characters only have a couple extra files, it's not worth bothering. But, if they have 17, or 31, or something it definitely is. Because that piddling little 100 creeps up in no time. Especially if you have more than a couple of characters. [I have 9 so far.]

Edit: ah, I see this is what you're getting at with the "several tries" approach.

(after a few minutes)
... Okay, I created a character with the same name as one of the residual fellows. The diagnostic page now says he has four files instead of just one (he previously was an Avatar Image only). However, he still hasn't shown up on my Player Profile, which says I have 0 characters.
So should I wait for the Player Profile to update, then delete it there before deleting him in the game?
Or should I go ahead and delete him in the game, then wait and delete him from the site?
Or doesn't it matter? Is there another deletion technique I'm not aware of?

From a technical standpoint it shouldn't matter. At least if the character.xml file is uploaded eventually it ought to show up on your persona page as well (it has to do with how the webserver is setup), in which case you can delete it. However, I'd keep the local character until all files are successfully removed from the site -- it doesn't always delete all of them (it is supposed to).Darth Midville wrote...

I'll do as you say and delete from the site first, but keep the character handy in case the server manages to hand me a partial deletion only (past experience says it's good at doing that for me).
Then I'll delete the character in game. I assume I'd want to do this without actually loading a game with the character, to prevent any possibility of the character getting sent to the site again after he's been deleted?

I'm unsure exactly when characters are uploaded but I'd take the safest route possible. Not having had to delete a character yet I'm not entirely certain what that is, but yes, if that's an option.Darth Midville wrote...

In the "Load Game" screen you click "Switch Character". This gives a list of characters available for play. You can select one and click the Delete button. This removes the entire folder of stuff related to the deleted character.Snoteye wrote...

Incidentally .... ARGGH! My character Randis showed up in my Player Profile. I deleted him. That seemed to go down without a hitch. Then I checked the diagnostic page and found that his Portrait Image file is still there.
So he's gone from being an avatar image to a profile image ... is that a step up? Or a step down?
(some time later)
Once more .... ARGGH! Tried deleting Randis again, as Snoteye advised. This time the site deleted the Avatar Image and Story XML files, but left the Character XML and Portrait image files in place.
Why can't the site just delete all four files and be done with it?

I guess it's important not to lose track of the fact that it's about the gameplay rather than the profile, something I think I've sometimes been guilty of doing myself: and that frustration can mar the overall experience if we let it.
Edit: I feel obliged to say that this is in no way a slight against those tasked with getting things together, as I expect it's a problem caused higher up EA's management chain not giving it enough priority.
