You should read earlier posts in this thread. They will tell you.

But nevertheless, if the missing files (that's what those error codes are, check your profile diagnostics tab) belong to a character that you've deleted - there's nothing you can do, they seem to be a permanent fixture at the moment. If they belong to a character you're still using, and you're on a pc, just keep playing with the character and hopefully they'll eventually upload correctly. Files only upload on manual saves (not quicksaves) and it may take some time. If you're using a console, there are known issues (I'm not sure if that's with both consoles or only xbox), and the files only upload once (after creation), so if they didn't upload correctly on that occasion, they never will.

If you want more detail, reread my first sentence. Read previous posts in this very thread.

Diagnostics page is a good first step to...something? I play on the console so I don't know how much fiddling I can really do to resolve my lack of social site updates. I'm not sure what to do with these error codes. It's just a different way for the devs to tell me their stuff isn't working.

Just used my diagnostic, then deleted a few old characters who somehow showed up on the forums, went looking for the diagnostic but it is GONE!

I have 2 characters uploaded; it says one has 31 files (I finished the game with this character) and the other has 17 (I'm halfway through the game with this character).  I have 29 screenshots, bringing my total number of files uploaded to 77.  I could delete the screenshots (they were just automatic ones anyways) to bring the file number down, but what are the other files (31, 17)?  Are those files out of my control?  Since the file limit is 100, it seems I'll only be able to upload a few more characters before I hit the limit.

These questions have been answered in this thread already, but the short answers are "excess" and "no."

I am beginning to get the feeling that this site will be in beta forever. Today when I logged in I had no profile pictures, nor did many others on the group and forum I went to.  I logged out of the site, and when I tried to log back in I couldn't. My login name and password didn't show up.  I finally got in and when I went to my profile it says I have no profile information, then my profile shows up with info and achievements. What's going on?Image IPB.

I have 1004 error for 3 chars which I created in char generator but have not started play with.

No error for main char, and achievements upload properly, however, stats and armor does not. why?

I had given up on the problems ever being fixed (and so far, I'm right) but I dropped into this thread on the off chance I might be wrong.

However, for those who have characters with way too many files attached - 5 up to 30 or so. There is a way to fix it that works for me. I am on the pc, so I don't know if it would work for a console.

First, delete the character in the 'manage character' screen. Then go to the character in game and make a new hard save (don't bother changing equipment, or levelling up or anything) in a new slot (don't save over your existing save).

Wait until the character re-uploads to the server, then check the diagnostics page. Sometimes it will be fixed on this first try, but often not. If not, do it again. And again. For me it usually gets rid of the excess files in the first two tries. But it has sometimes taken more than 4, and once around 8. Nevertheless, it does work.

But, of course, it doesn't prevent it happening again. I just went through the whole process again in the last two days. If your characters only have a couple extra files, it's not worth bothering. But, if they have 17, or 31, or something it definitely is. Because that piddling little 100 creeps up in no time. Especially if you have more than a couple of characters. [I have 9 so far.]

Hmm, I thought I'd try deleting my characters with curiously large numbers of files, but although it's deleted the characters from my profile, they and their files are stubbornly staying on the profile diagnostics page; a few files have been purged, but I still have 16 files allocated to nonexistent characters, frustratingly. Character updates do seem to be even more sporadic than normal over the past couple of days, one has to wonder if the website's on its last legs.

Edit: ah, I see this is what you're getting at with the "several tries" approach.

It's been delayed; no ETA that I've heard yet. I'm quietly hoping it's to give them a chance to fix the website and DLC authorisation issues! But that's purely wishful thinking on my part.

My diagnostic page shows I still have files for three or four characters that were deleted long ago, both ingame and from the site. Those characters don't show up on the "manage characters" tab, so I can't try deleting them to get rid of the files. Is there any way to get rid of those files? Why does the diagnostic page not have any buttons to let us delete these files? Diagnosis without cure only adds to the frustration...

Create a new character with the exact same name, let it upload, and delete it from the site. Repeat till all files are gone.

Thanks, Snoteye (...what a name!), I'll give that a try.

(after a few minutes)

... Okay, I created a character with the same name as one of the residual fellows. The diagnostic page now says he has four files instead of just one (he previously was an Avatar Image only). However, he still hasn't shown up on my Player Profile, which says I have 0 characters.

So should I wait for the Player Profile to update, then delete it there before deleting him in the game?

Or should I go ahead and delete him in the game, then wait and delete him from the site?

Or doesn't it matter? Is there another deletion technique I'm not aware of?

From a technical standpoint it shouldn't matter. At least if the character.xml file is uploaded eventually it ought to show up on your persona page as well (it has to do with how the webserver is setup), in which case you can delete it. However, I'd keep the local character until all files are successfully removed from the site -- it doesn't always delete all of them (it is supposed to).

Thanks again!

I'll do as you say and delete from the site first, but keep the character handy in case the server manages to hand me a partial deletion only (past experience says it's good at doing that for me).

Then I'll delete the character in game. I assume I'd want to do this without actually loading a game with the character, to prevent any possibility of the character getting sent to the site again after he's been deleted?

I'm unsure exactly when characters are uploaded but I'd take the safest route possible. Not having had to delete a character yet I'm not entirely certain what that is, but yes, if that's an option.

In the "Load Game" screen you click "Switch Character". This gives a list of characters available for play. You can select one and click the Delete button. This removes the entire folder of stuff related to the deleted character.

Incidentally .... ARGGH! My character Randis showed up in my Player Profile. I deleted him. That seemed to go down without a hitch. Then I checked the diagnostic page and found that his Portrait Image file is still there.

So he's gone from being an avatar image to a profile image ... is that a step up? Or a step down? Image IPB

(some time later)

Once more .... ARGGH! Tried deleting Randis again, as Snoteye advised. This time the site deleted the Avatar Image and Story XML files, but left the Character XML and Portrait image files in place.

Why can't the site just delete all four files and be done with it? Image IPB

I think one has to ask how much effort it's worth putting into getting online profiles to work correctly: they do seem to be fundamentally broken. If they do get it working properly that'd be a nice bonus, but after several weeks of no progress I think I have to (grudgingly) agree with those who wonder if it will be fixed.

I guess it's important not to lose track of the fact that it's about the gameplay rather than the profile, something I think I've sometimes been guilty of doing myself: and that frustration can mar the overall experience if we let it.

Edit: I feel obliged to say that this is in no way a slight against those tasked with getting things together, as I expect it's a problem caused higher up EA's management chain not giving it enough priority.

Never seen any of my characters in profile (error code 1000). Screenshots and achivements uploads without problems (they "just" have delay in 1-2 hours). Download chracter creator, create new char, upload him (Error code 1004). Network state what my profile was updated 4 days ago, profile state "Last updated 2010-01-08 16:50:20". WTF? Why Bioware allow us upload characters from character creator, but in the same time, we can't do same thing from game manualy?

The game is supposed to upload your character when you save a game manually. I would assume the CC was given a manual upload button because you can't save games with the CC. As for the "last updated" info, I could be wrong, but I believe that indicates when you updated your player profile information (name, gender, location, etc.).

I know, I know. But I never seen any uploads when I save manually in the game. Looks like something prevent it (ports open, cash cleared, already check router...). Still just one character from CC. Other characters from game (10+ level) never seen. I don't complain if network show outdated information or some errors. But it just state what I have zero characters in online storage (of course, I don't count CC char).
