I'm actually surprised to see a lot of Skyrim "LI" characters here. I mean, the relationship was pretty much, "hey, you're single? So am I! LET'S GET MARRIED!"

My mage married Onmund, an apprentice at the college of Winterhold. He left midway during the ceremony, and about three seconds later she destroyed her wedding ring to learn the enchantment. For the rest of the game, they barely talked to each other, except when she went back to the college to collect her money from the shop she was in no way helping out with. Not a favorite, but Aveline from DA2 is one of the best represented ones I have seen, even if it stomped all over my broken heart.

Leliana and Morrigan from DAO are memorable faves due to the detailed nature of the relationship.

Off the top of my mind, Morrigan. Perhaps it was the way I was RPing, but I felt like you had to actually work at the relationship. Once you establish something with her, she doesn't just outright blurt "I love you!" and "I'll do anything you say!" that's typical of romance plots of video games. She's complicated and stubborn.. and it is fantastic.

I mainly do it for the 100 gold a day. I'm tried of looking at my Dark Elf, too bad theres like no divorce or way for me to kill her. I mean I can but I don't want to get kicked out of the mages guild.

I probably would have liked her much more if I were actually romancing her when she tried to have sex with me. Instead of Handmaiden, who I spent the whole game flirting with. (Usually in my undergarments)

If this thread had been posted immediately after Mass Effect 1, she wouldn't have been my pick. But considering her romance plotline throughout the entire trilogy, I think she'd be hard to top. In ME3 alone she got some of the most emotional romance-related scenes in a video game (Name in the Stars & her final Gift), and LotSB was quite well done as well.

My runner up would be Mary in Silent Hill 2. She isn't a love interest per se, as the game starts out with the reveal that the protagonist's wife (Mary) is dead. But the slow reveal throughout the story as to how Mary actually died, and the final conversation and with her ghost, was probably the top emotional moment for me in any video game. Silent Hill 2 remains the only video game thus far to have ever truly made me cry. I ranked her second, only because she dies before the story actually begins, and so isn't a character the hero actually romances in game.
