Figured this old thing could use a bump, because I saw a thread somewhere complaining about inexperienced Novaguards. I think this could help.

I would imagine more people are going to give the class a go after the Vanguard glitch fix.

I felt like updating this guide, despite the fact that no one even plays Novaguards anymore. Could anyone go over my advice for Collectors and see if my tips are not absolutely rubbish? Thanks.

I was playing him last night.

Haven't read your guide before so I'll have a look.

I still Novaguard on gold quite frequently, and occasionally on platinum. Piranha and incendiary rounds make all things go boom.

Your advice looks good, and the strategy against Scions in particular can apply to any kit. That melee animation gives time for a lot of free headshots.

Maybe I would try Platinum if my manifest weren't absolute ****. Many bad calls in the store, I guess.

In the short time I've been on BSN I've been very suprised by the love for Half-Blast. I've spent alot of time of the human vanguard tweaking and optimizing and I can't even fathom using it over recharge. The loss of damage and recharge speed would be a huge decrease in performance for my playste.

Nice write up.

Thus far, I've always played with Half-Blast and I've always thought DPS was rather low, but I considered the increase in survivability to be worth it.  Perhaps I should try power recharge instead and see how it goes.

For me it depends. On Gold it's recharge because I can tank through everything.

On Plat I'd abuse the hell out of invincibility and therefore half blast is more useful.

Also I use Nova for a detonator. Raw damage is not that important to me.

Nha, played her just last night on gold. I was even lucky enough to land a biotic pick-up group, HA, AI and Krogan shaman. BEs everywhere :D

About praetorians, they can be charged when they get staggered or are charging themselves, but you better dodge right away and put distance. It's safe when they are morphing into their possessed version too. That's about it. All in all, I still prefer charging anything else, if I have the choice, and just deal with them with my weapon.

Hadn't thought of that, though some of those should be rather obvious. Added.

Ok, it's true... But he's my favorite character, thanks for the write up.

Regarding half blast, I was a die hard believer in the power recharge evolution for nova as well, but like Olaf says it's worth it for the extra survivability. (Which you will need in gold+) The power recharge evolution is great for shredding bosses quickly on even gold, but it gets annoying fast to die to a stray marauder burst before BC is off cooldown. I want to spec my female novaguard into my old build with power recharge instead of half blast, but I just got used to using half blast finally and I know if I go back, half blast will feel sadly weak in comparison. <_<

Read the entire thread, very nice. In your last comment you mentioned that no-one uses Novaguards anymore, what is de reason for this?

Belg, eigenlijk.

Don't want to risk this thread being locked by speaking Dutch any longer. Compared to characters such as the Geth Infiltrator or the Awakened Collector Adept, the Novaguard comes off as being a bit weak. Lots of survivability, but rather low DPS.

Tons and tons of fun more, though. That's something to keep in mind in a game, uh? ;)

No better way to flip off a Geth Prime than getting in its face and shooting it in the headlights with a Graal Spike Thrower while it can do absolutely nothing to kill you. Except if its drone gets a shot in, of course. Then it's you who's going to be hurting.

Well, all kits with Tactical Cloak are cheats so best ignore them when comparing things.

However, the Novaguard owns the the Collector Adept - and a whole bunch of other kits - big time. He or she is not weak at all. The problem with this kit is lag. To make it work you have to host, hence why you won't see many Novaguards in Pugs.

I've played Half Blast for a long time now but felt the need to try Recharge again.
It still sucks Hairy Balls

Given that I'm not good at Nova cancelling may have a large bearing on it but I die far too quickly to mook fire after Novaing before the Barriers are back up.

Done a fair few games with him/her this weekend trying the Binary Biotic Genade trick.

NG & Fury/Valkyrie.

Fury runs into spawn to prime with AF then Charge & Nova   Hardest thing is getting both of you at the target at the same time rather than running in different directions.

Note to self  must do Video.

I always give thanks to Satan by sacrificing a goat whenever I see a Fury in my lobby when I'm Novaguarding.

I missed this post.

Well, it's not true that noone plays him anymore. Not in pugs, yeah, but lots of people here enjoy the madness that is Novaguarding.

Your tips against collectors looked fine, except for two slight things:

1) you're not dead if a Scion hits you. You're only dead if a Scion hits you at a close range, cause the second and third hit will hit before you can charge again, or if it hits you while your charge is on CD. If it's not and you're far away you should be able to charge them after the first shot, which should save your ass.

2) when talking about charging praetorians, you missed the fact that you can charge them while they float without risk. That's quite a big thing, since they float like 50% of the time. Sure, they're gonna put the bubble up so you're not going to damage them, but you are going to restore your shields at least.

I didn't know that myself. Thank you for the contribution. Also added the little detail on Scions.

You still need to dodge back as soon as you land of course, but yeah.

Glad I could help ;)

I have only started playing MP for about two weeks now, and I charge alles and everything!!

have tried some soldier and more "stand and shoot" approach, but I need the thrill of the biotic charge!!!
Love to take down Banshees and Scions, and they love to take me down...
