I normally always play Soldier in ME1 as i dont think Biotics and tech powers work that well in ME1, purley from a game mechanic perspective. If your a soldier fan, an infiltrator may be a good initial choice and they do work reasonably well in ME1 IMHO and i find them a decent class for Insanity playthroughs in ME2.
Adapt seems the OP class to me, enjoyed them in ME2 and currently playing an Insanity play of ME3 with one. Not sure if Insanity is too easy in ME3 but my adapt with Reave as my bonus power is tearing through fights without breaking a sweat.
Engineers can also be more fun than you may think.
Really i suppose its down to personal preferences- try them all

If you want a new class I recomend either sentinel or infiltrador. Both still have cool guns classes and had power in combat. Adepts, Vangards and Enginners are very diferent form soldeirs, and may be hard to make it work if you only use guns.
I recomend take the class of weapons you like more a see if that class allow it, because you will not be able to use all at full power until ME3. If you already know all this, its just a reminder for you and a tip for those who may not know. Regards
Edit: I corrects some words to be better understandable to all

thanks for your answer I did think Engineer at one point but they can only use a pistaol so that put me of maybe I will try infiltrator but I have a few hours befor I start and I will see what others have to say
If you completed one playthrough with a ME1 Soldier you should have unlocked one or more weapons that can be used as bonus ability. In ME2 any class can use any weapon type like 75% of the game (after collecting bonus weapon training). In ME3 there are no restrictions anyway.
I'd say play Adept (or Engineer) if you favor biotic (or tech) powers. Play Vanguard (or Infiltrator) if you want to be really aggressive (Adepts and Engineers can do it too, but slightly more difficult). Play Sentinel if you want to be a jack of all trades. Actually, it's mostly irrelevant what class you pick for ME1 - most are clones anyway. ME2 gives each class its own flavor (so that one should be the most important decision you'll have to make). ME3 is like ME1 - not much difference between classes.

Soldiers and engineers seem to provide the most "consistent" experience in terms of how they play in my opinion.

I headcanon Shepard actually inventing Biotic Charge for ME2. The playstyle differs substantially, but the same can be said for most classes. High Risk, High Reward is the game and I love it, but that is my thing. In ME3 they made it easy mode again by removing the High Risk part of the above statement. Still fun though!
I guess the answer depends on your playstyle. For example, how did you use Adrenaline Rush in ME2? Did you use it to line up headshots, or to charge towards enemies? That is the difference between choosing Infiltrator or Vanguard.
Really though, all the classes are good. As you can probably tell my favourite is Vanguard, but I have not ever rolled a character I do not enjoy combat with.
If I may, for a new playthrough I would recommend you make the most changes in the plot, rather than Shepard. Kill Wrex if you didn't first time. Have most of your squad die on the Suicide mission. There are a lot of interesting new characters and situations in a 'less than ideal' playthrough and I imagine most people sadly will not see these parts of the game; explore and have fun!

hello all I plan to star a full Playthrough of mass effect starting from ME1 all the way to 3 I alway play as a soldier I have never realy played as any other class and fancy a chnge so I ask you all which is the best class for a good mix of sodier and another class IE tech or biotic.
anyway thanks in advance I will check back later.
Most classes change so much but I just did a full Adept run on my last Shepard. It plays totally different in ME1 than in 2 and 3 and there are even changes in ME3 from ME2.

In ME1 a Vanguard was basically a combat orientated Adept - with Singularity as a bonus power you basically could do everything an Adept could do, but carrying a shotgun, thicker armour and a cooldown reset button too. Unless you really wanted Stasis (which was bit rubbish in ME1) then there really isn't any other biotic class worth playing.
In ME2 the Vanguard was devolved into a berzerker one-trick-pony that made most of its kills using elbows and the reload trick, so no good if you want to play a dedicated biotic. The Adept was the most balanced class in ME2 and as far as biotics go, they had the best range of abilities.
In ME3 Biotics mainly became explosions and, while the Adept is now a biotic juggernaut, it can't really do anything the Sentinel can't.
IMHO the best class to use across all three games would be the Sentinel. They're the only class that has really kept their basic flavour and range of skills intact.

While I would call it overall my favorite, it has not been consistent through the games. In ME1 you were the only class that got all the weapon training, and you were the best tank as you had the most Damage Protection (which trumps shields/barriers in ME1 slightly, due to shield bypassing attacks). In ME2 you got some damage output and damage protection from Adrenaline Rush, but you were still the master of weapons even if other classes had surpassed you in the tank department (Sentinel). For ME3 you lose the weapon master ability and Adrenaline Rush was made weaker both directly, and indirectly due to buffs to nearly all biotic and tech powers. At least you get Incendiary Explosive Ammo. Still a good class and straightforward at least.
I have played all of the others except for Vanguard in ME1 (I might remedy that soon). They are all good if you want to take a few seconds to learn how they work. Vanguard was a fun class in ME2, but it took a turn for the worse in 3 when they added even more "win" sauce. I recommend skipping Nova, and Slam is also fun to play with as a bonus power.
Sentinel is sort of one that has been all over the map as well. I don't like it in ME3 as compared to ME2 or ME1 mainly because of the changes to Tech Armor and biotic combos for the third game. But it is a strong class through the series.
Adept is pretty steady through all the games, as is Engineer and Infiltrator. You couldn't turn invisible in the first game as an infiltrator, but you were the best with rifles and the tech abilities made you arguably a "better soldier" if you took AR or SG training. As for the Adept, much belly-aching was expressed over protections in ME2, but they are absolutely not a problem for a competent Adept player.

But as far as the most fun, give me a shotgun and a few biotic powers all while I am a human pretending he is krogan.

In ME2 soldier is also the best class, imo.
ME3 is where it gets complicated. Soldier really got nerfed directly and indirectly. Anything soldier can do other classes can match or often surpass either in survivability or offensive potential. Nearly all the other classes got major buffs as well while soldier gets nothing. If you want to switch ME3 would be the right time. I'd recommend infiltrator since it's the soldier's cousin plus ME3's sniper rifles are really good.

personally after my run through with a soldier i went engineer and never looked back, imo they are the most under rated class, quite hard in the 1st one i´ll admit but come me2 and 3, i dont know i just seem to play them really well!
try a few classes and get a feel for them

You are right, Engineer is usually targeted as the weakest class in ME1, but it is more than capable, at least if you don't do something completely idiotic with the build and use tech powers. And main story missions against the Geth are ridiculously easy with tech powers, and Neural Shock makes Krogan (or any organic) harmless. Engineer is not as good a tank as the other classes, so be warned. Of course if you can get your hands on Colossus armor it is irrelevant since the damage protection is so high. Or you could simply take Barrier as your bonus power.lythran9 wrote...
