Has there been any official confirmation about the art style for Dragon Age 3? I mean, any words about keeping the "new" art style from DA2, going back to origins, or any other variation.

Thank you ^_^

Worried about changes to the cheese wheels?

I, too, miss the cheese of DAO. I prefer a darker, oranger cheese to the light yellow varieties.

No blue cheese? Shame on you! :P

This is pretty important. A crappy artstyle can kill any potential interest I may have for a game (E.g. Kingdoms of Amalur)

Truth be told if Dragon Age 2 had no connection to DA:O I wouldn't have bought it based purely on the artstyle.

They said they are going for the DA2 art style but hopefully they will change their mind when they actually start working on DA3.

KoA is a good game.

Most likely they'll take the DA2 artstyle but maybe upgrade it or incorporate some of the DA:O. All gaming companies are trying to move forward when it comes to graphics and art, so it is unlikely that they'll move completely back to DA:O or stay JUST with DA2.

Sidenote (KoA): In Germany the game got rated 18 for "unnecessary deaths" While the Witcher 2 got 16 for sexual themes, violence and swearing. Looking at the different artstyles I LOL.

I hope they stick with the DA2 style but add tons more detail and balance out the colors. It could be very beautiful given enough care.

DA2 was better in some parts than Origins, but it was still bland at times and the Origins Darkspawn were infinitely better. I just hope the Elves don't look like Giraffes and we don't have to put up with Bethany's 'corpse hands'.

Personally I thought the concept art for DA3 (with the scenery, the Seeker and Warden armours) was fine enough. Then again I liked some of the art for Origins, but it seemed like Bioware had a change of heart about the art style and made Origins a bit bland. Hopefully they can make a vibrant and beautiful DA3 without being too cartoony (which where DA2 was sort of edging towards).

Yeah, personally I want a step back from what they offered in DA2. The art style was one of the worst elements of the game (for me, of course). Since I understand that going back to Origins style is very unlikely, I hope that Elves and Darkspawn are completely redesigned.

Part of me hopes they might do something completely new with the art...or at least a graphic polish of the existing art styles.

They've stated that they'll use DA2's style, although they'll likely make some changes, I greatly preferred DA2's style, other than the pathetic looking Darkspawn.

Well, I just hope this "art style" isn't an excuse to put less details into the game.
DAO actually looks stunning on the highest setting.

I just hope they fix the character creator to be more accurate, and also let us hear our character's voice so we can see what their mouths looks like when they are talking. Also, please stop having so many teeth in the lower jaw. Sometimes I take screenshots, and some of the mouths are really weird looking with way too many teeth! I liked the overall looks of characters in DA2, but Origins did some things better. How about combining the best of both?

I hope they'll go back to the Origins art style, the DA2 style looks a bit cartoony to me.

Dragon Age 3 needs more clean lines, sharp edges, empty streets, oversized swords and spikes.....lots and lots of spikes! In all seriousness, I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they come up with for 3 - I’m betting it’ll give a good indication of the direction in which the game is heading.

Unmodded, I doubt it.  It's not about how high res textures are, they had some bland designs.  I'm not saying it burned my eyes or anything (well ok, some armours were just awful), but there wasn't a lot that was really interesting.

They actually mentioned that as one of the reasons for DA2's art style in some of the interviews. Saying things like how the cluttered books in the mage's tower or things like the cheese wheels cluttered the environment. And how DA2 was supposed to evoke Kurosawa in how the landscapes and backdrops would be simple, as a means to emphasize the characters.

Yeah, it didn't work.

As long as they fix the elves, and the game doesn`t look like some damn anime, I am sure i will be happy. If they continue the DA2 trend, Bioware has lost me as a customer. DA2 and TOR (instead of Kotor 3) = 2 strikes. One more and they are out.

from what i remember of them mentioning the books in the mage tower was that, there was all that small detail and they felt why soo much for no appreciattion for it or whatever, so they just got lazy with the details as if they nt matter..

DA2's art was hit and miss for me. Overall, I thought it had the potential to be better than the bland and muddy look of DAO (that's just me though), however they screwed up on some of the designs in 2. Darkspawn and Elves (like many people have stated) are the biggest offenders as they look much worse then they did in Origins (I liked the shorter humans with pointed ears look for the Elves, it just looked a lot better than what we got in DA2). So, I'd like the more vibrant color scheme of DA2 with some of the character designs of Origins. Hopefully Bioware will pull that off, however, I'm always willing to give a game a try no matter what the art turns out to look like.

I despise DA2's art style.

It's empty, bland and everything was ugly, or stupid looking.

Honestly, anything would be better than DA2's art style.

Hope it stays similar. Origins was the opposite of interesting to look at.

I believe that they should do an improved DAO art style. DA2 was too colorful to be a "Dark Fantasy", while DAO, despite being outdated(although several mods can fix it) managed to capture that gritty feel I expect in Dark Fantasy.
