Looking for an idea on new graphics card.  I originally had dual 9800GT SLI cards that pretty much held its own for better part of 3 years (or longer?) So I was looking for an idea on graphic card upgrades.  Here are my current "stats":

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
6GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 1GB (GDDR3)
DirectX 11
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Power Supply is 750W ... don't quote me on that...
Gaming resolution is 1920 x 1080.
I use either a 23' Sony 3D Monitor or a 40' Sony BRAVIA 3D TV for playing. (mostly the 23')

Looking for something that is a bit affordable but not so powerful that I would need an entire new Core(s) or MB or anything like that.

Thanks!

Well for what it's worth I'm running crossed 6850's but that's more than overkill for current games. One will more than do the job and they were cheap enough last time I checked.

Plus the two are working happily side by side together so getting another one is something to keep in mind down the road.

Depends on your budget really, I'm running a nvidia 560ti with 4xMSAA & 4xSGSSAA Anti-Aliasing Mode - ME3 looks just beautiful and runs smoothly. If the 560 ti is too expensive, a 550ti or AMD 6870 / 6850 should suffice if you're only looking for a card that runs ME3 smoothly.

Probably the least expensive graphics card you can buy that will play Mass Effect 2 at 1080p is something like a Radeon HD 6770.  I use a Radeon HD 5770 (the 6770 is basically just a relabeled 5770) and it plays ME3 smoothly with 4x multisample antialiasing (MSAA) forced in the graphics driver control panel (Mass Effect 3 does not support multisample antialiasing in its native graphics options, just the lower quality Fullscreen Approximation Anti-Aliasing [FXAA]).  The rough Nvidia equivalent is a Geforce GTS 450.

Now, if you're asking about a graphics card for games in general, you'll probably want a bit more than that.  Mass Effect 3 is not a very demanding game, while other games such as Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2, etc., can be much more demanding.  If you plan on playing games like those at 1080p, you'll probably want something at least as powerful as a Radeon HD 6870.  The rough Geforce equivalent is the Geforce GTX 560 (note that the SE models are significantly worse and the TI models are significantly better.  Although I will point out that those games would likely require you to upgrade your processor as well.

Hope that helps! :wizard:

If we're talking about the $100 price-range, I'd go with the Radeon HD 7750. Although they are performance-wise rather similar (with one review favoring the 7750, the other the 6770), the 6770 dates back to the days of Radeon 5xxx, so its design is rather old. The 7750 already builds on the latest "Graphics Core Next" architecture and thus will benfit the most from future games and driver updates. Other than that, as SSV Enterprise already said, if you want anything bigger than the nvidia 560 you'll probably have to upgrade your entire rig as well, starting with the CPU.

I've got a ATI 6970 and it runs ME3 full detail with good fps. (CPU = i5 2500 RAM = 8 GB 1333 Mhz installed on SSD OCZ vertex 3). But one thing you'll have to consider is if you want physx or not, otherwise I'd recommend a Nvidia 570, if your budget lets you.

570 is imho overkill compared to the rest of his system. If he doesn't want to update the whole system, the 570 will be limited by his CPU in most games. And for ME3 the 560ti is already more than sufficient even with MSAA & SGSSAA.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I am limited on where I can purchase the graphics card. I have to keep my purchase to a specific retailer because I have to return the one that is currently in my system.

I prefer not to use Radeon (personal choice). Based on pricing, I think I'm gonna go with 550/550ti. EVGA is also offering rebates on top of some minor price breaks so that will save me some money as well. No rebates for the 560ti that I could fine.

Again, much appreciation for all of you and your suggestions.

You're right Siran, for this system it's a bit overkill, sorry didn't look at his specs. My brother has a Nvidia 450 GTS and is really happy with it, so I think the 550ti should do fine for you.

The 7750's GCN architecture is different, but not necessarily better, than the 6770's VLIW5 architecture.  GCN's main advantage comes from stuff like general purpose computing (GPGPU).  Though given the similar price, yes, it would be better to buy the 7750.

I didn't say it's better per se. But more future proof as AMD will most likely focus on their new architecture driver-wise. Same with game developers and engines.
