I had no idea where to put this so I put it here but please move it to whereever it should go.

Ok, so here's the thing, I've never read or written fanfiction and I have a sneaky feeling it's something that most gamer types would regard as really sad, lame and generally embarrassing?  So your general thoughts on that please.

But also *clears throat* if someone were, just supposing, to write an item of ..um... fanfiction...*goes red*, where would they...*kicks interesting dust on floor* put it, if they were going to say put it somewhere for other people to see?  *cleans finger nails meaningfully*.  I mean, not that I know anyone who has or anything I just wondered.   You know.

Hey look over there!!! *points*

P.S.  I have a pad of paper next to me so I can tally the number of people who say 'down the toilet', 'in the bin' or 'up your bum'.  There that's asking for it! :pinched:

I don't know about a great place to post and read Dragon Age fanfiction, but within social.bioware

"Dragon Age: Origins Official Campaign Forum (SPOILERS)" is probably the best place to post it, as it is described by "This forum is for fans of Dragon Age: Origins to actively discuss story or other discussion elements that may spoil the game for other fans."

And don't be embarrassed. Fiction writing is good for humanity, and settings like Dragon Age can be quite inspiring for many. Just don't go posting it in a high-school locker room.

There's quite an active Dragon Age fanfiction community out there, at least from what I can see on fanfiction.net!

I browse both the Dragon Age and Mass Effect stories at fanfiction.net - and there's some really fantastic ones out there, as long as you have the patience to wade through the not so great ones to find them.

So - if you have a fanfiction you have written that concerns Dragon Age, I'd say the best place to post it, and to share it with others would be:

http://www.fanfictio...ame/Dragon_Age/

Signing up for an account there is free - and from what I've heard it is easy to post your stories.

Oh , well I wrote up some story angle about where I think they should go with the story

You must be too easily embarassed if you're embarassed to pitch ideas for the sequel on the games own forum

fanfiction.net is one place to go. Can try the writer's guild group here on the social forum, as well. http://social.bioware.com/group/180/

Though it does not seem to have the greatest amount of activity.

Where you think the story should go isn't fan fiction.

Fan fiction is a story inside a universe. Some are pretty graphic and should be destroyed. Others are epic pieces of storytelling on their own. Usually it breaks the canon and goes on its own. It's just a story, not an opinion.

Also good luck with it. Too little great fanfiction these days. Just smutty ones...

I've been writing fanfic (including the filthy kind) for going on ten years now, and have no shame. There seems to be quite a lot at fanfiction.net already, as other have pointed out. There are also some communities on Livejournal:

Swooping is Bad:  for the Alistair fans, although there seems to be plenty of other stuff there.

Dragon Age: A general community including fanfiction.

Zevran: A Zevran fan community, unsurprisingly, which includes fanfic.

Maelstrom: A slash community for both m/m and f/f fic.

Maybe after Christmas I'll have time to actually write some DAO fanfic myself. Alistair/PC/Zevran sounds like fun ...

Eee!  I didn't realize FF.net already had a category opened for DragonAge; yay!  The NWN2 fanfic activity was great; I hope there's an active community for DA, too.

Speaking of awkward and embarrassing, is anyone else shipping Greagoir/Irving?

I think fan-fiction.net is a horrible place to go writing, but that's because there are such terrible, terrible, terrible HS teen writers on there.

Even though I'm newer to this community (though I did browse the forums back when ME was released), I think this forum and community are the best place for writing fan-fictions.

At least you're familiar with us here, right? As for which board, obviously it should go in a spoiler board since it will most likely involve spoiler content. I think the story board would be best.

Also I totally recognize you from last time, I just didn't think to mention it. :P

Maybe eventually Bioware will make a fan-fiction board?

Don't be embarrassed at all! I've also been contemplating writing my version of what should happen in DAO 2 (and filling in gaps from DAO 1 with dialogue I wish would have existed). I would like to AVOID fanfiction.net at all costs (oh god, I hope my Animorph fanfics from middle school aren't still on there -_-;). Someone has mentiond before that they have petitioned to have a FanFic forum here on SocialBioware. I think it'd be great to have a generic Fan section, whether for fanfiction, fan art, fan-made music videos, etc. Dragon Age is certainly an inspiring game and I can't wait to start creating things in its setting.

I'd say find a more specific group to post your fanfics in then FF.net ( ie. if your fic is male/male oriented, post to a male/male oriented community etc. ). It's a horrible seething place of evil filled with Mary Sues and Suethors with the verbal and literary skills of a foot fungi.

Livejournal has specific communities I'd imagine, can't point you to one as I personally wouldn't toutch any Dragon Age fancontent with an 8ft pole. However, as far as I've seen, LJ communities can often be surprisingly good in quality, just may take a while to find the better ones from all the crappy ones.

Mary Sue: "A Mary Sue (sometimes just Sue), in literary criticism and particularly in fanfiction, is a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors or readers." (Wikipedia entry)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue

And a Suethor is basically an author of a Mary Sue character.

Oh dear! how horrid!  but I now understand.. they often have 'scars' and are the 'secret lost children of kings' and are often jolly mysterious but strangely alluring?  That kind of thing, yes?

Mary Sue ( or it's male counterpart, Gary Stu ) is a type of character that's... well, very badly made. One could write a book on them ( pun intended ) but a rough generalization: Mary Sue is the original character of an author in a fanfic who is basicly far too flawless , or if she has flaws they are shallow and only there to appeal to teenage angst. Often a some sort of a 'fantasy-self' of the author, made perfect ( or what the author considers perfect ). The Mary Sue usually goes on in the fanfic being the incredibly powerful hero whom every canon character more or less loves ( except for the one character the author hates ). Basicly, Mary Sue is your own personal daydream you can amuse yourself with but who you never ever should publish in any shape or form since she was designed to only satisfy your personal needs. Teenaged little nerds however often lack the ability to see the difference between a good, well thought character and personal fantasy. So they go on to write horribly inconsistent bile with bad grammar and pointless story, call it literature and stick it in places such as FF.net
Given the asspatting mentality of big communities, kids who write this type of trash often get in their heads that they are actually good writers. More kids get encouraged to add their junk to the pile and alas, the writers who actually have decent skills or are genuenly interested in improving get buried under the trash and ignored.

Suethor is just something to call an author who writes Mary Sue fiction.

That.
And as I can't help with the second (I don't know about finding or posting fan-fic) I thought I'd at least say about the rest - most sexually insecure teenage boys with very bad social skills that were probably bullied at school and feel the need to attack posts just like this one from behind the safety of their keyboard to feel witty/clever will probably have a problem with you, your fanfiction and anything else in the world they encounter. Apart from that portion of the player community I'm quite sure no one is going to react the way you seem prepared for, it's only a step further in story immersion than playing the game in the first place really. It's writing a story. With ideas you like. No worse than writing at all.
Also your post, apart from being unacceptably adorable, also let on that what you write will probably be alright (if not better).

Is there a way to somehow petition BioWare to make a forum for fanfiction? I don't want to have to go to other sites to read it. I would be awesome to have a particular forum right here for it.

Edit: I just started a thread in the general forum at the bottom about fanfiction having a separate forum of its own if anyone would like to take a second to support it.
