So, i just downloaded DA2 from the xbox live marketplace. i came here to register my game, just like i did with mass effect. now, since i don't have a game box due to DOWNLOADING the game i can't enter the required serial number that is imprinted on said game box.

so, games-on-demand-versions of games don't just cost more than in the store (which is already ridiculous considering the amount of money they save by not having to produce and distribute a physical product), you also get screwed out of parts of the experience because no one, not EA support nor xbox live support, is willing or able to provide me with either a serial number location (found out how to find it on a pc version, but that doesn't help me) or a way to gain access to a new serial key.

after some web-fu i found a page on EA's site that told me how to get a new code if mine is missing or damaged (assuming i bought a retail copy), but that only counts for the US and COSTS 10 FREAKKIN' $$$ PER SERIAL!

HELLO EA AND BIOWARE, I JUST PAID FOR YOUR PRODUCT! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY MORE TO GET WHAT I ALREADY PAID FOR JUST BECAUSE I USED A LEGAL DOWNLOAD! YOU MAKE MORE PROFIT FROM ME ALREADY BECAUSE I DON'T REQUIRE A PHYSICAL PRODUCT!

it's a real shame how customers are treated by these companies. not that i'm all to surprised, but after feeling like Bioware kinda cared about their community from my mass effect experience it just disappoints me more how i get treated (my problem getting ignored and me being redirected from EA to XBox and vice versa).

if someone responsible, or a mod with the required knowledge and a weak spot for angry rambling customers (alright, i know that's asked much), hell even just a forum meber with an idea, could help me out with this problem i'd forever be grateful. thx.

thank you for time invested. at least now i know i'm not the only one with this issue. but yeah, looks hopeless. after chatting with both EA and xbox support i now sent a final email to ea support stating my utter disappointment with their shady business style. not thinking this will help much, but it's worth a try.:pinched:

Yeah, sorry for your trouble. I'm kind of surprised that this would be the case, unless there is a way that 'Camille' just didn't know about.

It looks like all the DLC is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace too though, so I guess you don't really need to register it on the social site for anything, do you? Except for a few promo items.

yeah, it's not so much about those few item but more about me being sick of having to accept all these mafia business methods.

"we have your money, now **** off!"

feels like trying to reason with a bully who will just ignore all your reasoning and walk away with your lunch money. i'm 30 years olld, i shouldn't have to feel like this anymore. dammit. :(

Serial codes and stuff usually get attached to an e-mail receipt or something. I don't know how the Marketplace does order confirmation, but if they sent you any sort of e-mail invoice or anything, it might be worth giving it another look.

checked and double checked all of my account information. also found quite a few other postings here and elsewhere from people with the exact same problem. xbox live does not provide an upc code (the one needed) with their games.on-demand-copies. simple as that. and just as wrong.

Ha, ha, (sorry don't mean to laugh at your misery, but this is a sort of humourless laugh, dry like.) This has being going on for years and years and years. EA creates elaborate systems that are bound to screw customers, apparently relying on customer support to fix problems. And that is not happening anywhere near often enough. Besides, their customer support itself relies on systems that also have catch 22s built in. I had an acount where I had misspellt the email adress. I tried to get help to fix it, but was unable to get through to the first line of "defense". That which responds with email to the registered acount which contacted them. Lol. I never got it fixed. I even tried to acquire the email adress. In the end one gives up because it's too much time spent. Apparently EA's customers' time is not worth anything.
I've gotten way, way better support from Securom, than ever from EA.

If only someone would post a link where there's an image of the exact number needed to register an X-Box copy of DA 2.

An image of the UPC code.

The UPC code that's 094922981066, which is the number you need to register an X-Box copy of the game.

i feel like i'm inside a Kafka novel by now. just got an "answer" to the mail i sent to EA's customer support (in which i made it very clear that XBox live/Microsoft told me that EA would have to provide said code). That's what they wrote back:

*Hello Kim,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I understand your concern regarding the product registration. I know such issues hamper the game really. Let us get this corrected so that you can get back to the game quickly. I have listed some steps for you.

To register Dragon Age 2 game, please enter the UPC code. It should look like 123456789012. (you do not need to include any dashes when entering the UPC).

If you do not have UPC code then please contact Microsoft because we do not have such tools to retrieve the UPC code. I wish I could help you in this. Trust me, had it been possible, I would have certainly provided you UPC code.

I hope you will understand our limitations.

For any help with the steps above, please do not hesitate to approach us. Electronic Arts values your co-operation and efforts. For more information, please visit our online knowledgebase here: http://help.ea.com/

Regards,
Vipul
Electronics Arts- World Wide Customer Experience*

THE PART ABOUT THE REGISTRATION IS JUST COPY/PASTE FROM THE BIOWARE SITE! EVERYTHING ELSE IS NOTHING BUT SAYING "**** YOU!" WITH MORE WORDS! AAARGH!

i give up. just like they expect it. the mafia is nothing against those criminals. this will be the last game i ever bought from EA or Bioware. and i'll definitely never dl anything from xbox live marketplace anymore. thiefs and liars, the lot of them.

if only that was an upc that was valid. but yeah, they drive people to search for solutions outside of the box. if you don't have a box, that is.

Wait, why are you guys asking for the UPC code from the game?
In order to register a game one needs the product KEY, not the UPC.
The UPC looks like this sample: Image IPB; which is not unique per unit sold
In order to register on the social site for forum access you need the product KEY, which is where the other person in the link above went wrong with XL support.

Don't give up. Keep harassing them.

When I got DA2 I couldn't play because the DRM wasn't recognising me as the admin of my own frakking computer. It's a bug they didn't fix for over a month, and by the time they did patch it I'd finished the game three times via circumvention.

Anyway, I continued to complain to EA's customer support, who insisted on telling me to do things I'd already told them I'd done in hopes they wouldn't tell me to do those things and waste both our times, and refer me to patches that the devs themselves had confirmed wouldn't fix the issue. In the end they gave me codes for all the DA:O DLCs, either as an apology for the issue or to shut me up, but better than nothing. :P

And I got a anecdote about the experience to boot.

Because that's what he needed to register.

Wrong. If you don't have an XBox and you can't be bothered to find out how XBox users register, why are you posting?
