Though the weight makes me favour other things for my casters.

It's not that heavy. Paladin 3 rounds, Saber 8. How much less damage does it do?

Saber has longer reload so it probably loses in terms of sustained dps, tooStardusk wrote...

Like 50, plus the slower ROF, plus slow reload.

Prefer the AP and damage mods - what I like is that it doesn't have a scope.
On soldiers, infiltrators, and the other odd infrequent caster it is great. Any range, any target. Can be used up close as a shotgun (apart from the obvious downside of no multiple pellets to blast through shield gate), or as a sniper - I mean you don't really need a scope to snipe on most maps/situations.

I've heard people defend it by comparing it to the Carnifex, usually saying that it deals slightly more damage but fires slightly slower, and that would be an apt defence - if it wasn't fifty times heavier and a million times more rare.
Even on classes to which weight is of little consequence, there are at least half a dozen (if not more) better choices available, all of which still weigh less.

It's amazing, but I don't use it on caster classes. Paladin/Carnifex/Talon are better there.

BW is better for that job. Plus it has a built in scope and innate AP so you don't waste mods like you do on the saber.

Actually, the Paladin will have to reload almost 3 times as often meaning that for every 2.9 seconds you spend reloading the Sabre, you'll have spent 4.5 reloading the Paladin. The Sabre can also reload cancel much more effectively.
Though I probably still wouldn't use it on anything but a Soldier.

Yeah BW is superior, but I don't like it - personal taste. Saber has one of the best sound effects in the game, no scope, large clip, and a lot more flexible than the BW.Air Quotes wrote...

As for wasting mods, I don't need the stability mod, scope mod, and the magazine upgrade while good isn't necessary.
I agree it's not got a great damage/weight ratio compared to some other weapons (BW, paladin, carnifex, talon, valiant, etc), but it's more than viable on gold.

The weight of the gun offsets the ammo, because the Paladin carries almost no ammo 3-5 clip, 21-33 spare. The Saber has 8-14 clip and 40-56 spare! More than most snipers!
It basically comes down to: Do I want less shots and more power (Paladin 423-531) or less power and more Shots (Saber 389-486)?
That is all.

This. Also paladin has terrible recoil,where-as the Saber is a bit easier to handle in my opinion

I think it needs a damage buff. It's supposed to be the baddest ass AR in the game in terms of burst damage, and it still gets out damaged by the dinky Paladin.
