You will not be having a problem until the total file count approaches 100, such that you are prevented from uploading new files.
New files were not being updated. I was well under the 100 max. limit. It was a problem.
@ Adaram: Thanks for your input, I did the same thing and it seems to be working for now, although I still have a diagnostic error.

I think using the Updater to start, rather than just the straight exe is the thing that finally gave me some updating consistency.

We have just changed the wording on this error message to say "Error 1005 - Extra unexpected files uploaded for this character." This should help clear up some of the confusion with that error message.
Could the reason for such an Error be multiple story files? For example, you make one decision and a while later, you're not happy with how everything worked out, so you load an older savegame and do it the other way and by this get a different history file than the one that was previously uploaded?

This is exactly what I'm wondering too.

Making choices in the game, reloading and then making different choices should not cause a new version of the story file to upload.

First, you read the rest of this thread. That question has been answered several times over in many different places, including this thread.wolfman007 wrote...

To be perfectly fair, it has not significantly been explained.Snoteye wrote...

I,am gating 1005 - Extra unexpected files uploaded for this character to what do i do
For example, I am playing on the XBOX 360 version (therefore screenshots are not an issue). I am well into my 3rd playthrough, however the only data that shows on my Player Profile page is my first character's full data, half of my 2nd playthrough's data (he only shows level 13), and my current 3rd playthrough character is utterly invisible.
Going to Profile Diagnostics shows all 3 characters (Dahlia, Sand and Siobhan), but characters 2 and 3 report error 1005. Being that I'm not playing on the PC version, screenshots are not a contributor to the problem.
Dahlia reports 4 files, the correct number.
Character #2 (Sand), reports 6 files, giving error 1005
Character #3 (Siobhan), who has absolutely no data listed (and also does not show up as being available to delete), reports having 8 files, and also gives error 1005.
I am using 18 of 100 files available, for a grand total of 565 KB of space.
My game data hasn't updated since 11-22, and I've played nearly every day. Again, I would try the "delete the character" fix, but Siobhan isn't even available to be deleted even though she's currently level 13, and I've been playing her for days.
For you to flagrantly respond by saying "the problem has been answered", is neither truthful, nor helpful. And I certainly wouldn't go around assuming to speak on Bioware's behalf.
I've scoured through countless threads on the forums related to this issue, and none of them are helpful in regards to the XBOX 360 version - especially since the primary solution seems to revolve around deleting screenshots to create space (an option which is not available to me), and then changing equipment and saving to force an upload.
To add to this, I just about a week ago starting receiving intermittent errors connecting to the Dragon Age servers from my 360 when starting the game. Never happened before, and now it's about 25% of the time it goes down like that. Does Dragon Age for the 360 require access to ports in addition to the ones used by XBOX Live? Even if it did, that wouldn't explain why half of my Dragon Age experience has been uploaded, and the other half has not. It would have been a problem from the beginning.

The error is related to the fact that you have 4+ files uploaded for your character. This is not the intended behavior but for now is to be expected.
It hasn't been spelled out, no, but it has been answered; and it has in fact been spelled out in many of the other threads. Personally, I also think the errors very clearly convey that they only relate to the specific character in question, but I might be suffering from hindsight bias.Adaram wrote...

Here's how *I* did it.
1. Deleted ALL of my characters (on this social site) -- this will not delete any of your game information, so don't worry.

I have seen no evidence to suggest that the Xbox (or PS3) version does not suffer from the same bug as the PC version in regards to generating excess files, so assume it is the case for all versions (and your post would support this). However, the Xbox version specifically has problems transferring data that the PC (and I believe PS3) version suffers from only to a much lesser extent -- this is an actual bug in the game that requires patching. There is no easy way to tell if one's affected by it, and AFAIK it isn't necessarily consistent.Ophidios wrote...

I can see three characters on your Xbox persona, levels 22, 22, and 13, respectively, and the latter two were last updated about two hours ago (but the second one is missing at least an image file). The diagnostics page is considerably more robust than the others, maybe because it is real-time, or maybe it doesn't have to actually read any of the files but can just look at them. All that really matters is that it's live and what you see on that page is what you have, whether or not your can access it elsewhere. The 1005 error is returned for each character that has more than 4 files (if it's sophisticated it compares the types and triggers if you have any duplicate files at all, no matter the total count, but I don't believe this is the case). Screenshots could never cause a 1005 (or any other error) because the errors don't apply to screenshots at all in the first place. The other errors look for individual files and don't care about the total file count -- in theory, it is possible to have ten identical files and nothing else, which should result in three missing file errors and a 1005. Deleting screenshots only ever helped if you had any screenshots and your total file count across all characters and screenshots was near or at 100.
If you still can't access and manage your characters now, that is unfortunate, but 1) nobody has been able to figure exactly why this happens, just that it does, and 2) it shouldn't have anything at all to do with error 1005.

(Also, there is an unrecognized item in my DLC list, but in game, I seem to have everything I should have.)

I can confirm that the excess files also occur on the PS3 version.
Apart from the avatar/profile pictures not uploading/updating after initial character creation (even if the servers were inaccessible at the time), everything else seems to work fine on the PS3 side. The uploads are slowish, sure, but all other data seems to be uploading in a workable condition (with excess files, though).
I have one question mark regarding the unlocking of one achievement here on the social side (as the prereqs are different between the PC version the social site tracks and the console version), but I'm going to be finding that out at the end of this playthrough. Not related to this issue, I admit.

Error Codes
1005 - Extra unexpected files uploaded for this character.
I have only a couple of files on the server. Six pictures which I can edit and updating achievements.
I would think that BioWare would actively work to resolve the issue(s) or offer clear instructions on what to do.
BioWare?

Ensure the following ports are open: 18081, 80, 443.
Have you tried deleting the character you're playing with from the website?
How are you saving?
Are you running the game from the launcher or directly from the executable?

I appreciate your assistance. Re the ports; UDP or TCP, in or out?
Haven't deleted the character I've been playing but did delete a second that I decided not to play. I'll try that.
I use quick save frequently and game save usually before a major plot item.
Usually I open the game from my regular desktop short cut and sometimes from the quick start short cut.
Thanx!

Honestly, I don't know. I always open both unless something is specified because it's easier. If it only transmits, I guess UDP, but it might require additional validation beforehand. I've heard second-hand some are mentioned in the manual but I don't have it handy and never came across it myself.OhPa2 wrote...

Only manual (i.e. not quick-) saves trigger the update, and only the latest.OhPa2 wrote...

I actually meant launcher/no launcher, though that sounds like the former.OhPa2 wrote...
