Why all the seperation in one big society...

I dont care if I play with a girl/christian/muslim/homoseksual/like-minded/not like-minded/kids or w/e

Heck we're 1 big society irl, we all have equal rights. I dont understand why people want to seperate from that group :/

Wesus you're back! Hope you had a good vacay.

Let's not debate social issues in any great length, but the purpose of finding a like-minded social group is not as much to separate oneself from society at large as it is to form social/friendly relationships at the micro level. Whether OP wants to play ME3 multiplayer with three other people who go to church on Sunday has very little to do with the 310 million other people in this country and everything to do with whether he feels comfortable/can start a conversation easily and etc.

This is similar to the GLBT issue, though we should retain perspective: GLBT individuals are a historically disadvantaged group that has routinely experienced prejudice and violence in many world societies and is only now in the West achieving near-equality and social acceptance, while Christianity is the largest world religion, and societally and politically dominant in the US and much of the Western world. Nevertheless, OP retains his right, don't you think?

Why limit yourself to Christians, when other religions promote similar cultural etiquette?

Sounds like OP just wants to play with folks who aren't likely to swear or be verbally abusive down the mic. I dont see the problem with that. The glbt thread had similair origins because that op was tired of hearing homophobic slurs during matches. I'm not surprised at all by all the (over)reactions in this thread - people love a good argument especially where religion is involved.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a practicing Roman-Cath myself. I get it; the rubbish over mic. And it is a lot more fun playing with a regular group! Just curious, no malice. Personally, takes a lot to offend me though. Desensitised I guess.

Want to post your tag?  As far as I'm concerned, roman catholics believe in the same God I do (non denominational myself)

-OP can exercise their privilege to seek like-minded teammates, no problem
-The community can exercise their privilege to troll OP, no problem
-OP and others claim this thread is similar to the "Gay" thread (as OP refers to it), so it shouldn't be "attacked" -> problem

Other threads, such as the "Gay" thread, emerged mostly out of irritation from the amount of disrespect they get offline as well as online. If the general perception holds that the (off/online) community is going to treat you as less of a person because of your sexual identification or whatever, then it's not surprising to seek like/open-minded players. Ok, so OP might be in the same position, right?

....Nope. On the internet, we tend to work off likelihood. And chances are, players from those Christian/Republican/Conservative, etc. groups, are *more likely* to share their publicly outward stances on anti-homosexuality, immigration, minorities. OP might claim to want to avoid "verbal abuse," but then again, I could also claim OP just wants the freedom to bash other groups. It's the internet, you never know, so you play liklihoods and troll the rest.

Lemme put it this way (in the US at least) when the most outspoken LGBT citizens get together, people expect a parade. When the most outspoken Christian/Republican citizens get together, crosses burn and minorities are suddenly nowhere to be found (that was a joke). Neither of which are necessarily true, but as a society that's where we are right now.

tl;dr - no need to make anything personal

Actually, both threads were originally made under the premise of not wanting to hear certain words- which are actually very common among those who AREN'T like minded- in the middle of the game. They had nothing to do with anybody being randomly persecuted, so your big tl;dr post is pretty pointless.

The LGBT thread doesn't want their sexuality used as an insult in mid-game, and he doesn't want his Lord's name taken in vein in mid-game. Pretty simple stuff, bro.

Well then wouldn't it make infinitely more sense to just have these respective parties identify their threads/groups as specifically wanting to avoid certain distasteful language, instead of looking for members of their specific ingroup?
I can't begin to express how much less polarizing that would be, and how much wider of a net it would cast.

Why can't others just leave people alone and let them do what they want? IF they want to start up a group with like minded individuals, let them! If you don't wanna be a part of it, then turn a blind eye and take your time elsewhere.

I think this is a cool idea, and good luck to you OP *salute*

listen bro, it's the internet. you have no idea what the original premise was. obvious observation is obvious, and you can either believe the OP or not. however, assuming the discussion is coming from the US part of the community, then chances are we're making assumptions based on broadly held viewpoints, especially since it's an election year in which gay marriage is a major US issue. hence, OP gets trolled because OP's group has a particular reputation.

ps. taken in "v-a-i-n," bro, pretty simple stuff

Look at the reworded title.

Look at what's in parentheses and what's written first.
This isn't about tacking on a footnote to your initial request; it's about an entirely different request.
  • If you merely don't want people to swear or "take the lord's name in vain", that's one thing.
  • If you're specifically looking for people who share your beliefs, that's another thing entirely.
Both are acceptable in principle, but the latter is going to make things a lot messier on the forums.

and I realize that.  The gay thread is doing the same thing.
