When I go to install ME1 on my PC it will ask me for the CD key but when I put it in it says that the installation has cancelled and to run setup. I try running setup but it does the exact same problem. Does anyone know what my problem is ?

I was having the same problem - try to install ME1 and after entering CD key, it immediately goes to Installation Cancelled window. After much searching on the internet and trial-and-error, what worked for me is following the last post from this site (http://answers.micro...a1-33995065d4e3).
Basically, I downloaded the entire installation disk to my hard drive (name the folder whatever but not Mass Effect, if you're going to put it in Program Files), deleted the file called 'Mass Effect ™_code.exe'. Then I used the Mass Effect "Set Up" from the downloaded folder - this bypassed the window where you type in the CD key and went straight to install (Recommended or Custom) window. After installation wascomplete, I downloaded Patch 1.02, then I could use the ME Launcher to start the game - it did ask for my CD key at this time.
