The only sure way I have found to load a saved game with DLC content after DA:O launch is as follow:
- from main menu, check that you are logged in then select Downloadable Content
- wait for the Points Balance to be updated
- close panel
- click again Downloadable Content
- this time you should see your installed DLC on a green background and the Points Balance in update mode again
- wait for Points Balance to be updated
- close panel and load your saved game.
You only have to proceed this way on your first load after DA:O launch. Once this is done, you can directaly load games during the same session.

I haven't installed 1.04 until a couple of days ago and when I wanted to go and play again tonight EVERY single download I had was on unauthorized. Browsed around here and there, but your post seemed to do the trick for me. Thank you :)

//Edit: Unfortunately, while this method does work, I have to do this every time I start the game :(

well, for me it was the new Golems dlc that became unauthorized. before the patch, it was greyed out because it required ver 1.04. after the patch it became unauthorized. I complained to EA that the required patch made the legit dlc unauthorized to no avail.

One solution/workaround, which im guessing wont work for those with the steam version, is to download and install the dlc while the game is version 1.03 (or earlier). Then you go offline, quit and update the game to 1.04. This means you will still be able to play a game with the official dlc, although be it an offline mode, as the patch doesnt need connection. But ofcourse you wont be able to log on anymore until this issue is fixed.

Locate AddIns.xml in "C:/Users/(Username)/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings" and edit it using WordPad or any XML editor. Replace all RequiresAuthorization="1" with RequiresAuthorization="0".

7. Run the game and check to see if everything worked!

I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 and now all my packages kept telling me '(unauthorized)', even though Dragon Age tells me I am correctly logged in.

Not sure what went wrong there, Windows 7 got the firewall rules applied, so that shouldn't be the problem. Either way, the above change worked, so until there is an actual solution to my problem I can at least continue the campaings I started before.

Indeed, Bioware needs to fix this. How can we trust that we'd have proper access and own any DLC, Collectors items (digital) otherwise. This also started since 1.04 for me which claims to fix this very problem - fun.

None of the troubleshooting as helped. I use Steam so I can't reinstall and not update to 1.04 (first real downside I've had in forever on Steam).

I was having this problem, and have found - no joke - that double-clicking works where higlighting the selection and choosing "load" does not.

Your guess is as good as mine.

guys i have the solution and it works 10000000% promise so this is what you have to do

Locate AddIns.xml in "C:/Users/(Username)/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings" and edit it using WordPad or any XML editor. Replace all RequiresAuthorization="1" with RequiresAuthorization="0".

Run the game and check to see if everything worked!

if it worked say it here so that the others can see that it worked

When I first bought the game I got all DLC working except stone prisoner. I contacted EA support, and they tried to help me, but we weren't able to resolve the problem. So I played with only 3/4 dlc.

I stopped playing after completing it 1 time. But now I realized that I wanted to play again, so I installed it. What I found out was that none of my DLC was even in any of the 3 tabs. It was like it didn't excist.

I read a thread where I could download the content manualy, add it to a certain folder, and then update them manualy. (You would ofc have the authorization to do so, e.g have bought it earlier.)

Now that this problem was out of the way, a new one appeared. They were unautorized. I were not able to play them. I read all god damn threads on both EA forums, Bioware Forums and Steam Forums (I bought the game via steam). I tried to fix it in alot of ways, but it was a waste of time apparently. One last shot, I checked this thread. I stumbled upon your quote. This made it work all right. So thumbs up for you. There is only one problem. I were only able to find the "NeedAutorization=1" for the stone prisoner, but not the rest. So I were only able to fix one problem out of four.

Any suggestions?

Edit: There were ofcourse several pages! Hence it worked for all 4 DLC! This guy is a genious. I dont see why there are so many threads that tries to explain it by writing page up and page down, when this 3 line suggestion was all that were to it! Thanks alot!

Even so, it does say that the content is installed, enabled and it doesn't say that it's unauthorized anymore. I thought I got the content to work, but as I log in, the only proof I can reall get right ahead that the content is working is the tome you were supposed to get in your inventory from scratch. I didn't get the totem.

If the DLC would work I would get a totem, which I didn't get. But even so it might be that the other DLC works, but I wont know that until later in the game.

Seriously i spent 1 month trying to figure out and as far as i can tell the issues seems to be connected both in the pacthes and in the services.exe in windows.

the pacthes are proboly giving some sort of conflict in the autorization of the dlc.

The windows services.exe need to be put automaticly so the game can update

Thats what i think the main issues could be... wish bioware can figure out this asap cause im not playing a game that i cant use what im buying (and not planning to buy anything again until they fix this)

your advice worked but still i think there is an issue connected to the pacthes and to the documents u spoke of peraphs sending a report to the support might help resolve the issue

NOTE: for those who can fix the dlc with Hanibal`s advice should go in the services.exe or just sevices if u search for... that should fix the problem

I had a similar problem where all of my DLC was turning up as "Unauthorized."  This was annoying as I had been playing with the DLC since purchase, and now I couldn't continue with my saved games due to the "missing" content.

The root cause of my troubles was the fact that I had turned off the Dragon Age Updater Service.  If you run services (Start -> Run services.msc), you should find Dragon Age Updater Service in the list.  It should be set to either automatic (loads upon starting Windows), or manual (if you prefer to run it only on command).  After highlighting the service, you may also choose to "start service" by clicking on that choice in the top left corner of the services.msc window.

The DAU service routinely checks all content and automatically updates any DLC which needs it.  If you do not have this service running, you may run into the following problems:

--DLC pages do not update their information
--Installed content is "Unauthorized"
--Saved games will not load due to "uninstalled content"
--DLC may show up as both available for purchase and already installed at the same time

The solution to my troubles was simple:  I just had to restart the DAU Service.  Due to the difficulty of figuring out that solution, I decided to post this in the event someone else might need it.  Additional details may be found at THIS LINK.

WARNING:  Making changes to services.msc WILL AFFECT WINDOWS operations.  DO NOT mess around with the settings if you don'tt know what you're doing.

Hope that helps....

To hanibal.gr:
I just tried your suggestion. I edited the file and changed all of the 1s to 0s. But now none of the DLC is listed in the installed folder. How soon in the game will I find out if it worked? (I bought the ultimate version and have never played any of the DLC before, so I don´t know when will it show up.

Update: I just noticed that after I made the changes the game no longer seems to recognize that I have awakening. Insted of increasing the content it appears to have decreased it.

THE FINAL SOLUTION
(if you have Windows 7) IS:

>>>>

forget about all deleting folders, rename files and account issues

just execute the DRAGON AGE.exe as administrator and the irritating UNAUTHORIZED will be gone !!!

Well, before nothing I'm spanish so probably i will have some mistakes writting this...

Ok, my problem was that i had several DLC's (Ostagar, Warden's Keep, Shale, Blood Dragon Armor...) I bought Witch Hunt and it appeared as "unuthorized" I dont' know what i did but suddenly all the DLC's were unauthorized. The solution for me was:

1. Press Windows and R keys

2. Write services.msc and press enter

3. A list apppears, you must look for a service called "Dragon Age: Origins- Update Program" or something like that (I have it in Spanish)

4. Right click/propierties

5. Change "manual" to "Automatic" and click on "Start"

When I started DA:O the content was finally "Authorizhed" I really hope this works for you :)
