Problem arose after I installed the ultimate version through Steam ... I initially bought a CD of Origins and finished that campaign, but wanted Awakenings. Anyway, got the huge file installed the keys and discovered the content was "unauthorized."

Used a find replace in wordpad with Hannibal's fix and voila, problem solved.

Thanks a ton, Hannibal.

This worked perfectly for me after hours of frustration. Thank you very much!

I also started having unauthorized issues with my DLC under WinXP after installing 1.04.

RequiresAuthorization trick appears to be half working if not logged in to Dragon Age servers. However I could still not load saved games from Warden's Keep. It gives an error message saying I need to be logged in to play Premium Content. Started the service DA:O updater. That didn't help either.

Their DLC management is such a mess. EA website and support is so laughable. Too bad cause some of their games are actually good when you get them to work.

Everything I have read and tried on here has been only a temporary fix. It's all well and good that the community come up with work arounds, but it's also extremely sad that the only people try to fix these are the community. I guess support for this game is no more.

Well, I did the "Locate AddIns.xml in "C:/Users/(Username)/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings" and edit it using WordPad or any XML editor. Replace all RequiresAuthorization="1" with RequiresAuthorization="0"." thing, and it worked. Only problem is, that I can't connect to the servers, without it getting unauthorized again. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I was having the same problems as everyone else here. Purchased Ultimate Edition, none of the DLC was authorized. I just did the XML file edit that Hanibal.gr posted. All my DLC is now authorized. Haven't started playing yet, but it appears to be fixed. Thank you Hanibal!
As a note to EA and Bioware - Wasn't the Ultimate Edition released like four months ago? Why isn't there a patch, or step-by-step instructions on a support page?
I googled the phrase - RequiresAuthorization="1" - from Hanibal's instructions and guess what popped up? Links to Piratebay and Isohunt! I can't believe I just had to "crack" my legit purchased copy of this game. Really EA, if I have to go this far to get the game I PAID for to work, then why am I giving you my money? I already decided I'm not buying Dragon Age 2 until it gets an Ultimate Edition, but now I'm wondering if I should buy it at all...

For the record, I've never pirated a game, I don't want to and I'm not planning to. I was just frustrated when I posted that. But damn, EA. Just... damn.

I'm sure everyone and their mother has already posted about how stupid this error is. But I need to get the frustration out somehow and my fiance is physically incapable of caring less.

This is just plain stupid. I have the Ultimate Edition. I got it at a store, in a box, with CDs. It installed all the content from the start right on my machine. So why, in the name of Joe Pesci's bald head, do I need to connect to EA's servers? There's no damn reason for this crap. The CD keys alone should be enough to protect your precious software. Hell burn the bloody key onto the CD for all I care. Just don't make me wait for your server code, which was apparently written by a 13 year old using only Visual Basic, to tell me I already own the GAME! That could not be more infuriating.

That's like me going to Walmart, buying a toaster, and coming back, only to find out I need to call Walmart back to verify that I am the one that is authorized to use this toaster. JUST MAKE ME SOME GOD DAMN TOAST!!

Wow, sorry. Needed to vent there. My original version had much more flavorful language, but I thought I should try to contain myself. Anyway, thanks to everyone for the haxx solution.

Oh and EA (because I'm 99% certain it was your retarded producers who forced Bioware to include this bull**** protection scheme), you suck. Bioware, keep up the good work.

I think the codes is actually just codes for the dlc. The DLC items and quests are probably sitting on a digital EA server somewhere. And when you connect to the EA servers, you'll actually download the content, the dlc. And in the case of the Ultimate Edition, I think? that there maybe could be some additional files needing to download? or that you'll need a one-time activation of your dlc.

The UE discs (or digital download files) contain all the DLC.  It needs to be activated once.  If you auto-login during the game, DAO will sync with your online profile.  At the same time, it checks the DLC again, for reasons I cannot explain.  If it times out while checking, the DLC will become unauthroized.  Best bet is to authorize the DLC, log out of the social network in-game, and deactivate auto-login.  Your achievements will not be posted online, but you'll be able to play without further problems.

How do you disable the auto login that you are talking about? I only see the auto login at startup, which doesn't help at all in my case because it takes 3 logins to get most of the DLCs authorized. Do you need to go into services while ingame to turn off the DA DLC updater?

BTW hannibal's trick did NOT work. It still shows unauthorized on all my content after 2 logins.

Hanibal's trick did not work for me either, but I found that logging into a separate account and then back to my regular account fixed the issue.

I've got a big problem with the autorization (Dragon Age Ultimate).

I've tried to "Replace all RequiresAuthorization="1" with RequiresAuthorization="0".". and this changes everything fra unautorized to autorized. On the other hand I've got into a big problem when I tried to "return to Ostagar" when I was "unable to load area". It seems that I've registred the content, but I can't load the content. Any suggestion?

I've tried to reinstall the game, download the content and reinstall it. To do this I needed to change back to original Addin file (but then it's not registred and I can't load the game). If I change back to changed file I can't load the area.

So frustrating. I've tried everything I know, but it does'nt work. Need help please.

Another problem is that I've installed the game (including addin) on D:\\Dragon Age\\addins, but when I reinstall content, then it install it on C:\\Users\\Eier\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\AddIns. May I change the directory manually?

I've spent a week plus on this issue and the required authorization trick doesn't work for me. I did everything EA said I needed to do to fix it and even dealt with their support staff. Their only answer is to uninstall and reinstall everything to fix what they call a corrupted file on my end. All I did was purchase a DLC online for the original Origins game and it made almost all prior DLC unauthorized. Now all my saved games are useless since I can't play them as they all had content from a now unauthorized DLC.

Also, I can't seem to stay logged in - it times out after about 4 minutes. Plus there is a certificate issue with the website containing my authorized games - which I think might be the real problem.

Did Bioware or EA stop supporting these sites and not keep the certificates current? That would explain the timeout anf lack of ability to get authorization.

Don't know how to answer your last question, but I think it's notable that DA2 abandoned the in-game DLC installation for PC in favor of the *.exe download method used by Mass Effect 2.

As for you issue, the only real advantage to staying logged in is to have your achievements synced with the website.  Once your DLC is authorized, you can log out, kill the auto-login function, and play away.  I haven't logged in on DAO for months.
