So does "Witch Hunt" alter anything in later Dragon Age games?

The part of "Witch Hunt" that you transfer to the next game is the autosave/save before you decide what to do with Morrigan, so how can later games know what you did?

that is a known bug. I thought there was a patch which corrected this - though as an offline console gamer I do not have access to the patch myself (as it was not included in the ultimate edition for consoles)

Either a patch or the import flags will pick up on it anyway.

I know there was another game with importing and somehow despite the autosave happening before the choice it somehow still detects what you did (save games apparently are more flexible than people think, but it really depends on the game.)

There was a patch that fixed that. It auto-saves after the choice.

I think "witch hunt" was just a bit of fanservice for the Morrigan romancers who wanted some kind of closure for their relationship. Morrigan says a bunch of cryptic stuff and it's all "this is the fate of the world at stake, it's very important" blah blah blah, but in the end, I don't think it matters.

If it did, Bioware wouldn't make us pay for it.

I was expecting Merril to fix the Eluvian and Morrigan+demon baby to walk out :)

But no, there's quite a 'flaw' in there also since you took a piece of the mirror with you in Witch Hunt to find the working mirror (lights of arlatan quest) so basicly the mirror is incomplete + it got alot more manageable in size compared to the one in Witch Hunt. And in the save i use now the Warden went in with Morrigan... So maybe in DA3 when/if Merril completes it somehow my Warden will return *yay*.

If they bring back Morrigan in any way, shape or form, it will be Retcon city, so worrying about how your imports come in will be a moot point. They will put everyone on the same page and be done with it.

Dunno, my guess will be that DA3 will be terribad when it comes to imported save games, let's just hope i'm wrong..
I still wonder how my Warden can come back to Denerim (DA2 - Act3 -King Alistair - Ban Teagan says she's comming to Denerim) while they went into the Eluvian in WH, small details like that break it for me.

You would expect the 'story' for DAO/DA2/DA3 to already be finished else it will be like putting together a puzzle blindfolded with your hands bound behind you back. Even though i enjoyed some aspects of DA2 more then DAO, DAO is still a way better game.

I can't help but wonder what would be retconned?  From what I recall of my playthroughs Morrigan is incredibly evasive and offers up very little in facts that can be verified (including anything she told me about Flemeth).  Frankly I would hope she returns in DA3 and that both her and her mother are more clearly established and that I don't pick through one's evasive half-truths and the other's cackling riddles to get the answers.

Not one of my Witch Hunt saves, Amgaarak or Awakening saves imported properly to DA2. I have no desire to try again.

There are ways to make the imports work as intended but that takes some time and effort (which BW should've done)
And i don't think Amgaarak has any influence at all.

In my last few save games (Mage-Circe-male/female) i got most of the answers i was expecting and using console commands in DA2 confirmed it was imported correctly. But i had to set some flags manually and use some addons to fix bugs in DA2. You can also check the events in DA2 after choosing the save game, the most annoying part is though you have to play that small part again and again just to check and see if all went well. You can use the zz_vault_debug to also check some things.

It added further insight into the eluvian. Morrigan was able to get hers working, and make it a portal that connects to a place beyond the Fade. That extra insight can help gamers determine if the eluvian Merrill was working on was as evil as Merethari claimed, or if it was simply the darkspawn taint that did the damage...which it was. We already had one working one that proves it wasn't as dangerous as Merethari claimed.

Or at least that's how I interpreted it.

Merrill took a shard of the eluvian found in the Dalish Elf origin story, not the whole mirror.  That's why the mirror in her home is smaller than the original.

Then a few years later, Finn, Ariane and the Warden return to the site and pick up another shard (this one still tainted!), which Finn uses to feel out the location of the Drake's Fall eluvian.

The Drake's Fall eluvian was never tainted and, after much work, Morrigan is able to activate it one final time.

I don't see why, with the Lights of Arlathan and the Drake's Fall eluvian, Finn couldn't continue to piece together the network.  Possibly including any eluvians located in sunken Arlathan.

Too bad nobody told Merrill.
