How many points in cunning, does a Rogue need to open chests by act?  I'm patched to 1.03. Thanks for any help.

A "Simple" lock is Cunning 10, a "Standard" lock is Cunning 20, and a "Complex" lock is Cunning 30. You start seeing Standard locks around the end of Act 1, with a few early exceptions, and Complex near the end of Act 2 -- if my memory is correct. Which it may or may not be.

Thank you. So 30 is the most you need? Minus bonuses, of course. The only Rogue i'm using in my main party is Varric. He doesn't get the lockpicking bonus on some daggars, but there is this ring...

"Master" locks and traps require 40 Cunning. If you have an item that has bonus to lockpicking, you only need 27 Cunning to open "Master". Bonus to lockpick gives you +%50 cunning when picking locks

You actually see Complex (30 Cun) as early as the End of Act 1 (Deep Roads Expedition), and Master locks appear in Act 2, although they are few

Wow, i didn't know that. I thought each item only gave you a +3. That helps a lot, thanks. Does that +50% apply to traps, with items that give a bonus to disarm too?

"Bonus to lockpicking" is the equivalent of ten points in cunning.

There is a master level trap (40) during Magistrate's Orders in act 1.
The final traps require 44 cunning. These are the high end ornate traps in act 3.
It's been confirmed on consoles that the final number is 44 for traps.

Was this patched? Ive read from multiple sources (including the official strategy guide) that it gives %50 cunning bonus. Ive also tried it myself, and indeed opened Master locks with less than 30 cunning, but that was long before the latest patch

44 for traps? Thats odd. Thanks for the info. Traps are far less debilitating since they patched away injuries, but still annoying

Thank you everyone. I'm patched up to 1.03. Because of a bug i read about with Sebastian, i'm waiting on 1.04. I'm on pc not console. But i'll take Varric's cunning up to 34 plus the Puzzle Ring of the Black Fox, toward the end game.

I think the most you require for traps on PC is 50. I now that the traps in Xebenkeck's dungeon (act 2) require 50 cun to disarm (I'm on PC too). Not sure about end traps (I suspect Suicidial meant the ones during The Last Straw?) but I don't think it goes any higher.

Just checked and opened a Master lock with 27 Cunning and a "Bonus to Lockpick" item equipped. Bonus to Lockpick gives 50% Cunning bonus when picking locks. And yes, Bonus to Disarm Traps works the same. So the final number for traps would be 30 Cunning on consoles, 34 on PC

Apparently this is also different for PC and consoles.

That must be the case. Odd that they would have these differences in the console/pc versions. Gameplay changes make sense, but you would think stat prerequisites would be the same

I'm on the PC and you definitely need a 50 to disarm the most dangerous traps.

On the PC, I seem to find I needed 50 to disarm the highest level traps.
