I would've liked the full spectrum of different endings ranging from happy to horrifying.

Shepard wins and makes blue babies or reapers win and blue babies get impaled on dragons teeth.

I do want a happy ending. Bittersweet endings are cliche.

I too wanted at least the possibility of a happy ending. Not even a sunshine and bunnies one, but just one where you win the war and Shepard and his LI are part of the survivors who will now rebuild the galaxy (not shepard breathing and Ash being trapped on Gilligan's planet).

And it wouldn't bother me so much if my Shepard, on Mars, basically says he's fighting first and foremost for Ash. He says this, they put it in the game. And then don't provide a single ending where Shepard doesn't lose her. 0 for 16.

Scared? Nah. I wanted a happy ending. I'll admit that, but I also wanted a totally screwed up one too.

What I truly wanted was a variety of outcomes based on what I did in game.

edit: bad grammar! :pinched:

You're forgetting Legion...

Legion went with the Geth version of Control IMO.

it should have been a Happy one. From their interview`s i saw before launch. i really thougt they would have both happy and bad.
what i think is strange is that its not even an ending where the reapers whipes all out and a new cycle beginns.
BUT YOU DONT EVEN GET THAT.
if the ems was to low that should have been a possibility. same as a happy ending.

Black -------o--------------o---------o----------o---------------- Disney         [Happiness spectrum, o = choices I wanted]
                                    ^---x---------------
                   (Bittersweet area, x = All ME3 endings)

Don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but me.   I wanted an endgame experiece that varied, emotionally.  We didn't get that at all.

I still understand that happiness is relative, but there are some issues that can be agreed on like survivability and such.

Meh, I've been saying it all the time.
But apparently some people don't get enough (or too much) sh*t in their life or think everyone dies="victorious and uplifting" or "new beginning" or something like that.
From the other side, I admit, that there are movies, books and games that did bitter ending right and it fits the story. Mass Effect is not that story. I don't want to choose between good ending and ending that makes sense, I want both. From some replies on this thread I got the feeling that somehow they are mutually exclusive.

I wanted an ending that was even more epic than ME2's ending. That ending was so glorious, I am about to upload a 1080p of it in its entirety to youtube (minus player combat - but all the cutscenes with default, no-helmet broshep doing ultimate paragon).

If they could have done better than ME2, the fans would be swooning and throwing their money at them.

Casey Hudson would be voted sexiest man of the year in People.

because there's some weird idea that dark endings are deeper/better writing. But I didn't want a happy ending, I wanted multiple endings ranging from failure to happy.

I never expected a happy ending. I just expected a good one. Even shepard stranded on a desolate war torn planet by himself would have been better than what i got.

I just went back into this game to play my canon, renegade femshep imported from ME:2. The bad juju all came back when I hit the star-child's ramp! Let me be clear about my feelings about the ending:

I have never been afraid to say the I wanted a happy ending. I wanted to walk off into the sunset with my LI as the flaming corpses of my enemies lit up the sky with sparklers!

I support the Bioware writers creative rights here, I don't ask them to change their ending. I'm just telling Bioware that I don't spend almost $100 in a preorder to be depressed. And I was depressed with this ending....not sad....depressed....feeling futile and helpless and a whole bunch of things I didn't want to feel.

Real Life is filled with enough of that stuff, I can get all those feelings just by living long enough. I wanted an honest to God Hollywood," I can't believe she did it but she did it ending!!!" Period.

It's not that we don't want a happy ending, it's that we're willing to accept a bittersweet or worse ending, as long as it makes sense and fits the lore.

It took me a few minutes to realise there were more characters than just Miranda in that picture.

I don't want all the endings to end in me feeling like I have done something out-of-this-world awesome but at least one should do.

I liked how they did it in the ending of DA:O where you can choose how your heroes journey ends.

I got no qualms about saying I was hoping for at least 1 happy ending amongst the multiple endings, some of which I had figured were going to be on the sad/bittersweet side. But honestly having none of them be the traditional "happy heroic ending" did disappoint me. I get they had an artistic vision and they could say which ending they saw as the canon or actual ending, but I would have liked to at least have had the option to have a happy ending if that is how I wanted my version of the game to end.

Echoing others, a spectrum of endings would have been ideal.

I'm confused why they did not go with one ending where everybody unequivocally dies and the next cycle finds Liara's time capsule. That would have been a very interesting 'bad' ending.

Besides that, there needed to be seperate human-centric, neutral and paragon victories.

A happy ending, even if Shep does retired with their LI and has a beer on the beach (metaphorically speaking) is still bittersweet given how the whole game is filled with death and destruction.

Am absolutely not scared to admit I want a happy(ier) ending!! The fact of the matter is that there is indeed a "happy" ending in there - i.e. that Shepard lives. The problems are that 1- You can't get it unless you cave in to the evil multiplayer ploy (or have an iOS device), and 2- It's not fleshed out nearly enough to be satisfying anyway.

Agreed, there's no reason a game like Mass Effect should be limited to one ending.
