Why are so many of you here scared to say that you wanted a happy ending?

Like others have said, I want a spectrum of endings. I want an ending where the cycle is completed and everyone dies. And I wanted an ending where Shepard could defeat the Reapers and then live out the rest of his or her days in peace.

I'd also like an ending where Shepard gets Javiked and wakes up 50000 years to find the younger species of the galaxy fighting the Reapers.

None of that lessens the sacrifice of those who died. If anything, Shepard betrays their sacrifice by blindly following a Reaper AI when it comes down to it. That's not what they all died for, Shepard.

And just imagine how many have already died, not only in this cycle. Following blindly the faulty logic of the Reapers means Shepard betrays trillions of creatures/beings that died fighting against the Reapers...

And if the crucible is really made by those who came before, that betrayal gets even worse when you choose synthesis/control...you basically take their weapon of revenge and shoot them in the back with it  by saving the Reapers...bravo, hero of the galaxy! Hope you all feel uplifted by this!

ah...better not think about all this, not healthy...

Better listen to some happy-ending music...

Damn, that's a brilliant idea. Pity it looks impossible to shoehorn into the EC.

*insert obscure film/book reference here to lend myself credibility*

The White Plague ends with polyandry because the disease kills off large portions of the female population. What this has to do with Mass Effect, I don't know, but don't I sound a lot more credible for using a sci-fi reference that most people haven't heard of?

Having an outright "happy" ending would have made me bitter at the whole experience as well. A "grey" ending is what was called for. IF they had let Shepard live, it would have had to come at a great expense...something in the realm of..."ok, Shepard lives, but all his actions were merely a delay tactic. The Reapers survived and will return in a hundred years time, or their time in darkspace was spent fighting against a would be conqueror of our Galaxy, who is now free to run wild in our galaxy."

I'm not scared to say I want a happy ending. It should just be one of many endings.

I don't want a happy ending in this case -- I don't think it's warranted. But really I'd be pretty happy with any ending that made sense and was technically accomplished (rather than feeling rushed in both conception and execution). More than one such ending would be the icing on what has been a big and very tasty cake.

You afraid you'll be labeled as immature? That you like Disney endings?

Come on, don't give me that crap with "I only like dark and depressing endings" you and I both know, we wanted Shepard to chug a beer with his team and celebrate their victory over a dead reaper corpse.

I think its in response to pro-enders saying that the only reason we dislike the ending, is because it isn't "happy". When in reality, we just want an ending that makes sense.

I think most people would be ok with a happy ending as an option, as long as the option to sacrifice your Shepard "for the greater good" is also there.

Scared? No way! I WANT A HAPPY ENDING. Along the set of any other kind of endings.
But me personaly - I want my Shep to have his blue kids and "to find someplace very far away, where he could spend the rest of his life in peace and happiness".

Most people don't seem to be bothered about a "dark" ending, They just want a ending that makes some freaking sense..but apparently wanting sense makes people entitled and whiny.

I do want a happy ending, or at the very least have the option of getting a happy ending. Damn it, I want to have a post-traumatic beer with Garrus on the Citadel etc etc:P

I wanted both.

I wanted to see an ending where Shepard fails horribly. Where all species are wiped off the face of the galaxy, and the cycle contenues into the unforseeable future.

I wanted to see an ending where the species of the galaxy united into one force that was able to kill the Reapers with minimal loss of life, and without sacrificing anything major. I wanted all my crew and myself to live. I wanted to see a big friggin statue of the Normandy crew on the Citadel, and a giant statue of Shepard in a new Shepard Memorial square. I wanted to see an epilogue that shows me how all the species of the galaxy got along from that point onward from the most part, and that they'd go on to create a new, better galactic society.

And I wanted everything in between.

I was sorely disappointed, as I got neither.

My renegade shep deserves a happy ending. One was cheated on by Jacob and the other watched her boyfriend die. They both deserve happy endings.

My paragon shep, on the other hand, deserves something totally different.

I'd rather those 16 wildly different endings we were promised than just a happy one.

I would have loved a possible happy ending ME3. Not this kind of sunset-rainbow-marriage-children ending, but at least something bittersweet.

I mean come on... after all this journey we are forced to commit mass genocide in every possible way? That's just mean.

I'm okay with Shepard dying. He is the messiah after all.

I do want happy endings for my squadmates however.

Because I didn't WANT a happy ending. I wanted the Reapers to win. Not once in the ME series was I convinced that they could be defeated in the numbers that they supposedly had.

I want a happy ending, as one of the alternative endings. I also don't have a problem with a grimdark ending as long as it makes sense.

I expected Shepard to die(no matter what).....I also expected many different endings based on your decisions sort of like the Suicide Mission(big step back for Bioware)....

So....No, I never needed a "happy ending"....I just needed one that actually made sense, and was deserving of the Mass Effect franchise

Edit: not a cut and paste mash up of the two god awful endings of the Matrix sequals.....which is exactly what we got.....

The Catalyst = The Architect

Bioware should be embarrassed.....or at the very least, very ashamed

Polyandry is 'grey'? Sounds like sunshine and rainbows to me! Where do I sign? B)

The death of Anderson, Thane, Legion, possibly Mordin, possibly the VS, possibly Samara, everyone on the Citadel, the majority of Earth's population, the majority of Palaven's population, the majority of Thessia's population, the majority of people on the more populous of the colony worlds, etc... That's not grey?

Losing to the Reapers and only managing to push them back for a generation isn't a good idea either, because that's not an end.

There is no such thing as a perfect happy ending to Mass Effect 3, given the death and destruction in the first 95% of the game, the best we could imagine will always be bittersweet. I just want a chance at something other than bitter.

didn't care either way.

would prefer a loss that makes sense over a victory that doesn't.

but yeah, assuming they both made sense, a happy ending would make me happier than a sad one, hence "happy ending". it wouldn't be necessary though.

Also: LOL "happy ending"

I'm not. I wanted my Shep to have little blue children. They tried to do a matrix revoultions ending, except that depressing ending worked, Mass effect 3 failed for me.
