Beucase it's kind of blasphemous to proclaim one's self as a 'god', and because if Shepard controls the Reapers, then say goodbye to his/her humanity forever.

Then again, you can't apply morality to a machine's solution. The Cataylst gives you cold, hard logic and isn't programed to observe things from a human/organic perspective. It kind of sucks.

What Shep becomes is different than what the Cataylst was. Hell the Shep AI God even says Sheppards morals guide him.

"Beucase it's kind of blasphemous" So.....

Hmmm. Synthesis crew: what do you think would happen to the Collectors in this ending? What would you want to have happen?

I'd imagine the Reapers would let them go to do as they please. That of course assumes they can be more than just mindless drones.

After SWOTOR I doubt they'll make it an MMO. Besides they'll want to use the next gen xbox and ps3. Not MMO graphics pc

I romanced Ashley goddamn it!

If Ashley wasn't the 'canon' romance, then why the hell did they put her in all the gorram trailers!

According to Mordin, their old identities are irrecoverably lost. You'd have a better chance reviving Prothean culture by cloning from cell samples found in Prothean sites, Javik, and the information in the Prothean archives.

If the Collectors don't remain avatars of their respective Reaper like I suspect the Husks will do, they'll be set free by the Synthesis, and they'll eventually become aware of their origin and history. No idea what happens then, but I can't imagine them becoming a regular species of the galaxy.

Well - sounds a bit extreme here, but if the Collectors have no culture, its all tech - then wouldn't they be wandering aimlessly for a new purpose? And in the wrong hands, essentially be a puppet/slave army?

I don't think they regain their intelligence. The Collectors are fully indoctrinated slaves...and they were indoctrinated for a very long time. We know Indoctrination seems to destroy or at least severely deteriorate people's cognitive functions once it advances far enough...that's not curable.

Unless somehow Synthesis somehow restores brain functions.... ?

I mean, we have no idea what it can do. But I'm not certain how long husks can last after being craeted before new ones must take their place... I guess if they're constantly replaced, then if Snythesis somehow does free them, you've got a bunch of mindless drones at your disposal. They'll either just contiune idly or wildly attack anything or anyone they can see like a beast.

Feel free to jump in and say I'm wrong.

Presumably they'll die out, because they have an expiration date and lacks a way to reproduce aside from dragon's teeth.

This is one reason I prefer Control, as I can repair the Collectors and hopefully improve their ability to think freely. I do believe they have intelligence and limited culture of a sort: they have a language; their technology possesses very distinct visual styles, even distinct from the Reapers, themselves, implying preferences; Harbinger, when possessing one Collector on Horizon, makes a speech with gestures, which would be wholly pointless if the Collectors were just telepathically controlled slaves. I suspect they don't have much free will or individuality, but I don't know how different that is from, say, the rachni. The Collectors certainly aren't Protheans anymore, but they're not without potential... though I'd like to give them a digestive tract back.
As a sidenote, I'm a bit annoyed with the Prothean implementation in ME3. In ME2, one of the Cerberus crew says something like "I thought the Protheans would be more regal. Not giant... bugs." This is an aspect I actually liked, because it was probably quite a departure from how many would likely think of the Protheans... until ME3 showed them to be more conventional reptile/mammal aliens and that the Reapers made them insectoid for... reasons unknown. I'm not sure it was a great idea to make a species alien enough that it didn't even exist in the same time period be less alien.

I don't think they regain their intelligence. The Collectors are fully indoctrinated slaves...and they were indoctrinated for a very long time. We know Indoctrination seems to destroy or at least severely deteriorate people's cognitive functions once it advances far enough...that's not curable.

It should be curable with precise enough brain surgery. We might not have the technology for it yet, but that shouldn't make it impossible. I rather suspect Synthesis' upgrades could cure indoctrination, for instance.

My theory?

Distant future, like a few centuries to well over a thousand years.  Since "synthesis is inevitable", destroy isn't impossible to recover from (Mostly) and Control has less of an impact on the galaxy itself:  They could make a pretty consistant universe at that point if they used the variables to create alternate histories to reach that outcome as long as the Reapers get sent away for whatever reason (Possible plot point?)

And the new protagonist can be races other than human ^_^.  At least Asari and Turians.  And there will be multiple backgrounds for each including being a descedant of Shepard if human or Asari (Heck, even Shepard's daughter as Asari).  Also, the new protagonist may have gone on long walks with his/her grandfather as a child, who told stories about "the Shepard".

Yes, I'm being extremely optimistic

I'd imagine they'd get the same treatment as the Husks, Reaper worker drones.

As Mordin said, everything Prothean about them has been lost.  I'm content with letting those grave remain undisturbed.

Given their experiment with multiplayer, I'd be pretty surprised if they did *not* go that route.

I've never been into that genre of games, but I could actually see myself picking up a ME version of one.

Unfortunately I can see them doing that. Also unfortunately, I don't see myself picking up a ME MMO.. Oh well, all good things come to an end..

I really can't see them being willing to do a Mass Efect MMO any time soon, if at all. They have enough problems with SWTOR (considering the high production costs), another sci-fi MMO wouldn't be very helpful. There are too many MMO's out there...

I'd love to see a sequel with a new protagonist (maybe some kind of "origin" stories), but the endings make an ordinary sequel impossible (imo)...and I hope they don't canonize an ending. I have no interest to play in a "synthesis" galaxy, and I suppose most people here wouldn't appreciate a "destroy" galaxy ^_^

I just put a link to CosmicGnosis very interesting thread The Paradox of Synthesis - Is Self-Determination Violated or Celebrated into the OP. Another thread I consider required reading for anyone interested in the matter.

By the way. If you think the group should have another name, we can rename it. I wanna hear suggestions about the group name from the biggest Synthesis fans.

Don't get me wrong. I still prefer Control ending, and Controlled Synthesis concept. And I think that Control and Synthesis fans should stay together :)

Yeah, it seems like lots of people are opposed to that idea. Just not sure why, exactly?

Again, it's not a genre I'm real familiar with, so I wouldn't really understand the issues...

Indeed, I wouldn't want a canon ending either, be it Synthesis. I have saves from all three choices and would love to see how the galaxy takes a different path based on our choices. Besides, we shouldn't be forced into an ending we don't like.. ;)

Unfortunately some destroy supporters maintain that since the majority picked destroy, they should just canonize it. It is to them that I say I hope BioWare canonizes Synthesis!
