Chris Priestly, wouldn't it be time to also lock this thread and have them vacate to group discussions? This thread is only being used by a vocal few, per your own words that seems like grounds for a lockdown.

The butthurt is strong on this one.

Nah, hardly been using the IT thread other than occasional lurking streaks and infrequent posts with months inbetween. Just using his own logic and words here, this thread should be locked all the same.

The difference is that this one has managed to stay on topic and relatively civilized (for bsn anyways). From what I've seen, the same couldn't be said for the IT thread.

I'm not going to deny that, however we both know why this thread stays civilized and the IT thread has its occasional bout. (read trolls)

Either way, Chris didn't state that as the reason and as such I'm only using his stated reasoning to request equality of the rules on the forums.

That's a fancy way of justifying an immature gesture.

You're the one currently derailing the topic.

Immature how? Isn't locking a thread for reasons that are not against the forum's rules immature? Not using the same standards around every thread on the forum is fair? I'm merely asking for Chris Priestly to exert the same standards over the entire forum. While it may be off-topic, I can't PM him, so this is the only way to let him know without using external media.

Might I add that responding to me is just as much derailing the topic, probably even further? Can't we leave it at this message and have you people continue your discussion instead of responding to me? I'm sure Chris has seen this message by now.

Put bluntly: synthesis is mentioned in-game, while "Shepard suffering indoctrination" isn't and fits into the category of interpretation. That, and the bickering and off-topic chatter in this thread seems to be far-less prevalent than in the recent iteration of the IT discussion.

I'm not personally a synthesis supporter, but that makes sense to me.

I understand you're upset about the IT thread closing but two wrongs don't make a right. I'm against what Chris has done lately. Especially with the closing of the Character forums.

You bumbed this thread to spite it. That's pretty immature.

I'm afraid you're quite wrong about my reasoning behind it, as it has nothing to do with spite. I'd much rather have this thread, or other such threads not closed by Chris Priestly and his reasoning behind it. I'm merely using this thread to convey that. I'm not trying to get it locked out of spite, it's rather a clamor to equality across the board. Which for the reasons Chris gave should mean locking nearly every thread, yours just looked the most similar to IT thread I could find in a short span.

Please don't automatically assume such things again, it doesn't help friendly conversation along.

Again, two wrongs don't make a right.

And there is practically no way to interpret your original comment as friendly.

Sigh, very well, please continue interpretating intentions all you want. Maybe being a phony psychic would be a suitable profession for you?

My intentions are entirely different, and the only way to make Chris Priestly see his error in judgment (reasons given) is to show him that he needs to lock other threads aswell per reasons given. Obviously he won't lock other threads like these, but it does show why he is wrong. Therefore I don't make another wrong, thank you very much. Also, I can't see how you can interpret my original comment either way. It's not friendly, nor hateful, it's merely neutrally objective.

I didn't have time to look at all the pages ,but can anyone tell me if they live forever after Synthesis? You would think they would overpopulate and run out of resources quickly. If they don't live forever ,wouldn't EDA realize how she isn't immortal and regret being blended? Just my two cents.

So you wanted me to assume that your original comment about asking for this thread to be locked was actually not about trying to get it locked? Wow, I guess the miscommunication is entirely my fault. And yes, that was sarcasm.

I don't think they live forever. Organics who have synthetics integrated into their bodies will still die overtime.

No, it's the interpretation that it was out of spite is what I'm saying. While a bit more thought could've shown you other motives as just as likely. If you cannot come to such a conclusion that isn't my fault, nor my miscommunication of it. It may very well lie with you comming to conclussions way too quickly.

Either way, I'm done with defending my intentions. If you want to misinterpret it, be my guest.

Don't worry, I won't let this thread die. It's one of the only threads on here that creates relevant scientific discussion even if it still makes chuckle heartily.

As for living forever that's something I would hope to avoid as well, if no one dies and people continue to reproduce at the rate they do you'll eventually run into trouble.

That's a pretty bad comparison. Koalas you see, are incredibly sleepy creatures. More than likely you'll simply have a sleeping Synthesized Koala and nothing more.

As for various hostilities being incurred I'm unsure just why an animal would enter this discussion. Surely that Koala will not progress to the point of humans? Can you imagine Super Koalas?

I'd rather not.  The prospect of cybernetically-enhanced drop bears with glowing green eyes quite frankly scares the everloving crap out of me.

I have the flu right now actually. I'm on the Anti-Viral Tamiflu.

But you raise a great point. What happens to viruses and bacteria? A Synthesized MRSA makes me want to scream.

Interesting point, and it raises a worrying question:

Medical knowledge.

Would all existing medical knowledge, antibodies, medicines and vaccines suddenly become obsolete post-Synthesis?

Drugs that had been developed for organic beings - would they be any help for synthesised beings?  Would they have any effect on synthesised diseases, bacteria or viruses?

After thousands and thousands of pages and months and months of pouring over every aspect of the trilogy, the IT threads largely ran out of things to talk about...

And it became a ramble thread for people to hang out in...
Riveting conversations about what was on television, and all that...

I seem to recall most issues being treatable in the ME Universe. However the writers haven't doen their research. Viruses arise all the time and they almost always end badly for those caught in the middle. Case in point? HIV/AIDS.

One case of zoonosis from an animal and you have a brand new disease on your hands. This is thought to have happened with primates and the Primate Immunuodifeciancy Virus. Someone ate an infected animal, the virus mutated and BAM you have patient 0.

I recall in Battlestar Galactica that the Cylons had some serious issues with Meningitus. What happens if an old virus resurfaces?

Would that mean the geth become mortal? If the geth are faced with death would they like it?

Overcoming mortality is mentioned as a *possible* prospect for the future at the very end of the epilogue, which means that somewhere in the future of the post-Synthesis civilization people *may* have to deal with the fallout, or maybe not, but Synthesis doesn't make anyone immortal.

Would that mean the geth become mortal? If the geth are faced with death would they like it?

No. As of the EC there is no change in the physical makeup of synthetics.
