Nah, I'm just here for the free popcorn and the company.

Nachos > popcorn.
So, what? Am I to accept a description from....the narrator?

And it still only says she's a "gifted" biotic. Half of the freakin' Grisson academy kids are also "gifted biotics".
You really, really hate to agree with someone
Why not? Do you dismiss the opening text for each game just because it is not from an actual character?
Wasn't it mentioned that L2 biotics are the most powerful human biotics (except Jack, of course)? And we know Miranda never demonstrates any complications from the flawed implant, so it's very unlikely that she uses one. When it comes to our squadmates I think it's...Samara/Morinth > Jack > Liara > Kaidan > Miranda > Jacob/Thane

Doesn't matter if I accept it or not. It doesn't says anything about Mirandass being specially remarkable (biotically speaking) anyways.

You defeated your own argument when you started insulting other users and being blatantly disfunctional with wording.

I disagree. It's kind of clear they ditched the complications of biotics that Biotics have in the story. One thing that makes Miranda unique is how she is a biotic anyway. She was born before the first official exposure to element zero. Same with Shepard, who was apparently left pre-disposed towards biotics after an accident. Then again, a lot of the stuff about biotics disappears completely after the first game, with a seemingly inordinate amount of human biotics all of a sudden.
I'd put it as Samara/Morinth>Jack>Liara>Miranda>Kaidan>Others. Although I will admit, I don't know where to put Wrex or Javik, though I'd personally be inclined to rate them above Liara (even though their gameplay ability are kinda limited).
The first biotic exposures were in 2149, so the problem with Miranda was that "eezo=biotics" wasn't known until she was eight and Henry doesn't strike me as stupid enough to expose her accidentally. There's a dev document somewhere that suggests Shep was exposed in utero and had secondary exposure as a a teen but...*shrugs*
Now can we get back to Synthesis?
Yes. Synthesis.
Forcing transhumanism on the entire galaxy is bad.

Well, I can't compete against that, I guess.
Miranda was one of my least favorite characters until Citadel.
And with Citadel I just enjoy her, but still don't consider her among my favorites.
Save for some poor choice in angles, I don't really see what's wrong with Miranda's character that it should be "sad" that people like her.

Synthesis is bad.
Forcing transhumanism is not. People don't get a choice, and I'm ok with that. They don't deserve a choice anyway.

I blame myself. I asked if people thought Miranda qualified as an organic transhuman.
Sorry Ieldra and jtav ![]()

The question is pertinent. I've always said that she is, given that transhumanism does not exclude biotechnology as a means to transform the human condition. The problem in ME is that the attributes that would make it so were never shown but only told.
As for Synthesis in general, the idea is good but the context makes it problematic. Different people end up on different sides of the fence, and arguing that "it's good" or "it's bad" as if that was sort of objective fact is futile.
The fact that Miranda was genetically engineered never bothered me. The fact that she was so insecure in herself about it did.

I wouldn't necessarily say that she's insecure. She's confident in her abilities and skills, but her issues lie with wondering whether or not it's really her own abilities or her fathers abilities. For example; is she skilled because she herself is strong, or is she skilled because her father made her be strong? She doesn't really know or believe whether or not her success is due to her or her father. That's why she thinks any mistakes she makes are on her own.
Sorry, Massive, but that comes across as insecurity to me. Combined with things like her self-contempt after failing to predict Niket's betrayal, it's a bit of a pattern in ME2.I wouldn't necessarily say that she's insecure. Miranda actually strikes me as someone who might be prone to depressive episodes. Or close-ish.
She's obsessed with being perfect. I'm given to understand perfectionists are often fraught with anxiety over meeting their self-imposed standards and depression for failing to meet them (or anger towards others who don't meet those same standards). Miranda doesn't strike me as anxious, but is very harshly self-critical over her shortcomings and butts heads with several members of the squad.Miranda actually strikes me as someone who might be prone to depressive episodes. meh, she probably stresses out about perfectionism in several aspects of life

One of the dialogue options Shepard has when she talks about how despite all her upgrades, "[Shepard is] the best humanity has to offer," is "This again?"
I don't see insecurity from her in that aspect. I see her as realizing she's human and is capable of making errors, but I wouldn't say it's insecurity in her own abilities or skills. As I said, the issue comes more from how she feels about her gifts, feeling that she hasn't earn them since they were in place before she had any say, and can only feel that she earns her mistakes since despite the traits she has in place, she still has made mistakes. On that note, I'd still rate Miranda as the best humanity has to offer, on the same level as Shepard. It's part of the appeal I see to her, and to pairing her with my Shepard. She's the only one on his level so to speak (or at least close to it). Despite that, that's still not insecurity so much as it is acknowledging what is.

I wouldn't say that she is harshly critical of her shortcomings so much as her mistakes. It's hard to really pin down what her shortcomings even are. I'm a perfectionist at my work as well. She's not really depressed about not making a standard so much as she is to realizing that when she makes a mistake, it will often have very large consequences given what she is normally having to deal with. Granted, yes, she does butt heads with several squad members for shortcomings of theirs, and I do agree with her on them. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say that she is obsessed with being perfect. She's a perfectionist at her work, but not necessarily at life.
