As long as it can be turned off, I see it as pretty neat. I'm an introvert, so being forced to share is hell. OTOH, could be useful.

Agreed. Even an extrovert like myself enjoys privacy. Luckily cyberpunk and transhuminist sources have devised all sorts of ways to include privacy in the equation. Starting with a networking full-off “Autistic-Mode”. Which will help keep Miranda from slapping me every we pass in a hallway.

I like to see the analogy of networking extended through other areas of transhumanist thought. Immortality, the independence of form and ego. The ability to re-sleeve from one biological or synthetic body to the next. Which could solve the problem people perceive with the various alien factions being stranded on Earth. Now they can just upload themselves back to their respective home worlds, no bulky spaceships or dangerous eezo cores required. Grunt will feel right at home, everybody will be tank grown.

DrZann - Iain M. Banks features those ideas a helluva lot in his Culture novels (as well as super-advance AI, galactic cycles etc) but his non-Culture novel "Feersum Endjinn" features the Cryptosphere, an incredibly vast and advanced data-corpus that is a transhumanists wet-dream.

What you are describing. Is exactly what we have been warned about so many times before.

You are no longer human once you transcend the ego. If you'd like to bring Freud and Pseudo-Science into the equation, I'd be happy to to argue about how removing such things removes humanity.

That sounds very interesting. Thank you.

Never said anything about transcending the ego. That is more in the realm of Posthumanist thought, lets keep it transhuman.

The ultimate transhumanism is to transcend your body. To remove yourself from flesh and blood. This type of being would have no need to do much of anything. I see no purpose in doing it.

No need to smell the grass or flowers. To have sex, to reproduce, to die. To live. To die.

I like having skin and bone. You may do this to yourself, but not me. I refuse.

One ruined life will continue a cycle of abuse for all time. In the end, Synthesis will claim more victims than Destroy.

There's nothing to stop you transcending in to a system and coming back to your body again, Shepard did it with the Geth consensus.

In Feersum Endjinn you can even create an image of your mind-state to interact with the Crypt on your behalf and reintegrate at a later time.

Okay then.

It still isn't my right to do this.

Synthesis doesn't solve the issue with species, so it's pointless in that regard. All it does is stop Synthetics from wiping us out.

The Caldera under Yellowstone will do quite a bit of damage to the Earth one day, but preparing for it now is simply nonsense. It's isn't your issue, nor is it your concern.

...

Incorrect. Once again, that would be in the realm of Posthumanism. Transcending Morphology would be more appropriate.
There is nothing stopping you from keeping and dieing with the form you began with. Re-sleeving would be entirely optional. If you did choose that option, a biological form produced by a local Sirta Foundation nano-factory could be available for your earliest convenience.

Such a civilization sounds so useless I can't even fathom why anyone would want it.

No need to progress, at all.

I'd rather die.

I've also reported the above post.

Luckily for you Transhuman/Posthuman ideas are probably closer to imposible than they are improbable in the real world.

But as a theme it does ask interesting questions. What defines human? What does it mean to defeat death? If you can copy yourself, where does you end and someone new begin? What are the potentials of these technologies in terms of both oppressive control and liberation? If minds are software, where do you draw the line with programming them?

These are also the questions that would be driving progress in a transhuman world.

Thanks for strawmanning.

It isn't about what you want. It's about what the Galaxy wants. You were supposed to stop the Reapers. Control and Destroy do that. Synthesis does not.

It stopped them killing us, and I'd rather have them as some sort of independent entity than intrinsically united as the most powerful force in the galaxy under the command/domination of a single sentient, even (especially?) if it is me.

Any interference past stopping them is unethical. You were given no authority to do as such. Control and Synthesis are an overstepping of bounds.

Destroy is unethical and cold, but it is suited best to what you were told to do. One action will forever stop any interference and will leave the balance of the Galaxy intact.

Whatever happens ten thousand years later post Star Child is not my concern, nor is it yours.

I'm a sentient, sapient being. If I find myself in an unexpected situation, with unexpected information, I will assess the new data and come to my own conclusions. If anyone has any complaints maybe they should have stepped up to be the avatar of our cycle.

This is exactely why I use the words to critiuqe Synthesis that I do. You care nothing about the opinions of others. You care only for what you stand for.

It's about everyone. They take precedence over what you want.

You have permission to do one thing. Stop the Reapers. Destroy serves that function.

Believing what you want above others is oppressive. You shouldn't be suprised I use the words I do to critique you. It's absolutely abhorrent.

You see people as a means to an end.

I'm asked to make a decision based on information only I am privy too, you recommend commiting genocide because it's morally justified by "only following orders", and you call me morally abhorent?

Dammit, I didn't want to be dragged back down to this level, oh well.
