well, I'm actually stuck in the town of Dereden(sp?) There is no way to get out. Do I have to kill everyone in the deserted building in order to get out of town?

No, just bring up your map, then click on world view or whatever and pick your out of city destination. Alternatively, go to any outdoor area transition to get to the map. You just have to click on the icon on the map screen that takes it to world view.
