So this question may have been somewhat buried under the furore over the ending, but I thought that sidelining Miranda was astonishing. She was a principle character in ME2, she was one of the more famous voice actors, she was on the cover of ME2, she's even still on the forum background. Not to mention, she was also an awesome squadmate.

Why the sideline? I'd like to have been able to choose between her and Ashley (or Kaiden) as a squadmember because Ashley is dull!

i am not sure why most characters got sidelined, most of there excuses were ****** poor, it seems like they needed to meet a date and cut out assets to achieve it (dragon age 2 comes to mind)

Wasn't too bothered, I was pretty impartial in regards to Miranda.

I agree though, the choice should have existed. I would gladly have kicked EDI's stupid sexbot out of the airlock if it meant I could have room for an ME2 squaddie.

You're all incorrect, it's quite an obvious design choice. Given the multitude of different possibilities of characters surviving the suicide mission of ME2, it makes it much easier for BioWare, from a design perspective, to have the majority of those characters 'sidelined' that way they can be written out or replaced much easier than trying to include them.
Hence why the only characters that stay through the party in all 3 games is relatively small (Garus and Tali (ignoring Liara's DLC).

Because you can only have 6 squad members and there is not room for her.

I think she got more than most ME2 characters which isnt fair, because she was after all just a story starter and then nobody

Yes but surely it wouldn't be that hard to make to that you can choose between Ashley/Kaiden and Miranda. She was probably the best squad-mate in the series and she just got relegated to a few cameos. It's actually rather illogical....

What i think is illogical is that, yes i can live with her not benig a squadmate, but they completly forgot about her connections with cerberus. She was the second in command yet she has no relevensy whatsoever towards cerberus. Very dissapointing and a huge potential wasted. Maybe they can fix this in the omega dlc by including her and Oleg but i don't have my hopes up.

It was clear and obvious back when ME2 was released that those characters will play a secondary role in ME3, since each and everyone can die. No exception. Saying that Miranda is especially popular is just an opinion among many. Some people even hated her.

It's funny and ironic: Saying "artistic integrity" or "space magic" now is like using a RETCON argument on this. xD

What?

In ME2 she practically betrayed Cerberus. That's why Cerberus is...spoilerio spoilerio...cannot say here. But, I mean, you did play ME3, right? ^^

She was not second in command, Cerberus is big idea with lots of parts on it.  TIM is boss for those all parts. Miranda was overseer for Project Lazarus.

In mass effect 3, she says that" a visit from the former cerberus second in command would have been disastrous". You get that dialogue when you first meet her and you continue the romance.
@ GODzilla-GSPB: Yes i played ME3, well i think :P
What i ment is that seeing how cerberus turned, i would've wanted miranda to acknowledge more the state of cerberus and what it became. I wanted her to be involved in the cerberus arc just like tali and legion where involved in the geth/quarian conflict. She only mentions TIM ones then never talks about cerberus.

I missed Kasumi most myself. I loved her character in ME2. It would have been cool to romance her, but even if she had another mission at least.

Strangely enough, Miranda got a lot of hate in ME2, almost as much as Tali form some sectors. I myself think more is better, even if I don't really care about that character as much.

Miranda got sidelined!?

You mean the ME2 squadmate who keeps showing up throughout the game with possibly more conversations than James, a new squadmate?
The one who gives Shepard a way to find the cerberus base? The one who has a storyline still going on from ME2 that gets conculded in this one and happens to evolve around one of the most important plot points of the game?
The one who when said storyline is finished, apparently has the power to cause a squadmate whom had no sort of deep connection with to go into a rather funny drinking scene and just praise her?

Yep Miranda got sidelined. Unlike that Jack* or Zaeed hogging all the fun.

It would be smarter to moan about that (if you didn't take her to the baby reaper), out of the blue, she left the group whom in ME2 she was constantly defending as if they were the care bears and showed no inclination of leaving.

*Note: I hate Jack with a passion (as in apart from her own mission, NEVER took her with me) but even I know she got swept under the rug.

It's not just praise; she does call her a b***h (which was actually all sorts of awesome).

In general I wasn't too unhappy with how the ME2 squadmates were treated, but Jack is the exception to that. If they'd made her a squadmate again I probably would have romanced her at least once, but with her current meager role it doesn't really seem worth it to me.

If they were going to bring a ME2-exclusive back full-time, it should have been her. Jack > Miranda.

Yes but the point is, characters like Jack and Zaeed are much more auxilliary characters, for want of a better word. Miranda is arguably the main character of ME2, and her drop in 'relevance' in ME3 is so much greater. Charactrers like Jack, Zaeed and Kasumi I expected to not to see that much of in 3. Grunt's bit was good, his scene with the Rachni/Reapers was awesome.

Miranda has as much of a role in the story as Ashley and Kaiden yet they get made squadmates and she dosn't. That's what I was disappointed about.

So...why can't Miranda be a temp squadmate in DLC, if Garrus and Tali could have died in ME2, and are still squadmates? Doesn't make sense to me. I still think they could have Miranda in a Lair of the Shadow Broker type role, and have an alternate new character take her place if she is dead in a playthrough? Am I crazy?

Umm. I've never met you before Omair. So I don't know if you're crazy? I don't even know what definition of crazy you're going by.

Just kidding:P.  Your idea is fantastic. Clearly too "crazy" for the developers to handle.:D

As someone whose main Shep's romance is Miranda.. I don't think she got sidelined with the exception of having no romance scene at the end be4 the final battle.

In fact, that's a problem with all the ME2 romances (except Garrus and Tali), the "romance scenes", if there are any, take place way before the end. It really diminished those romances and made them seem less important than, say Liara (who, btw, was pushed onto you like no ****ing tomorrow - not to mention it looked like her romance was made to be the best - the rest don't even compare).

ANd, yes, Jack got sidelined like ****. You really can't argue Miranda got sidelined and say Jack didn't. I don't like Jack, but I feel bad for all the peeps that romanced her - they really got shafted. I mean, do you guys even get a romance scene?

Anyway, would it have really been that difficult to have a final romance scene with these characters? I mean, there was the perfect opportunity to have Miranda and her sis come aboard at the end... the Normandy is equipped with a fully functional med-bay you know...

Totally agree on Liara being force fed down our collective throats, but I'm not so sure she is the "canon/Bioware preferred" romance for Shep. Ashley is the face of female romance in all ME3 marketing, and was also romanced in the ME1 Launch trailer, while making an appearance in the ME1 cg trailer.

But I think it would be the ultimate marketing ploy to have Miranda be a temp squadmate in DLC, their sales would skyrocket, not just for the DLC, but I think quite a few fans that sold the game might pick it up again if that was the case.

I agree, being the most important (and hardest to kill) squadmate in ME2, I figured she'd be one of the leading characters and squadmates in ME3. To my disappointment, she wasn't.

I still don't understand why Bioware decided to simplify her role into "LOL ORIANA" the entire game. She was a gold mine for Cerberus information... and not once was her character used to give Shepard any insight or advice.

This is why I think she still could show up as a squadmate...it makes no sense that she is absent in the first place. Besides, since Bioware knows she is the most sought after squaddie, why not hold her back for extra $$ in the future?
