What Directior do you want in the unlikely eventuality that they actually make the Mass Effect movie?

I say:

Joss Whedon

He's good with characters-driven stories, and, well... he made Firefly :P

George Lucas....That way he can continually add new scenes to the film 30 years after it came out.

Steven Spielberg, because I don't believe he's ever done a bad movie.

Edit: Brian Henson maybe, he directed FarScape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which deals with similar themes as Mass Effect and was genuinely great.

Wishful thinking: Peter Jackson or Robert Rodriguez.
Worst-case scenarios: Paul W.S. Anderson or Micheal Bay.

Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, but it would never happen. Theyr'e more likely to miss the point of Mass Effect and go with some action director like Paul W.S. Anderson or that hack Michael Bay. Mark my words. Unless they take a different approach to it compared to other game-movie adaptions it will fall into the same pitfalls. For a start they need to stay with some of the things that made the series good;

1. The aesthetics and designs of places, characters etc.
2. The music

With big movies they need to give their designers and artists a job to do, for Mass Effect this isn't as neccessary but they will no doubt do it anyway. Thats when you end up with things in the movie that only vaguely represent what they were in the game, the way that people appreciated them. For example, you can bet that sheps armor and the design of the Reapers will get an overhaul to some degree, keeping them as close as possible is the way to go, people like these designs for a reason.

This is the same problem with the music. The music of Mass Effect is well established and loved by it's fans, not to mention critically acclaimed. Taking these established themes and developing them is the way to go. Trying to write new leitmotifs/themes for the movie is not the way to go.

They also need to not turn it into a generic action/sci-fi film. While Mass Effect is a sci-fi/action series, it's about so much more than that. It's about creating a believable world filled with so many unique characters who the player/audience feels attached to for differing reasons. This great characterisation is what drives Mass Effect in my opinion, the fact that you actually care what happens to the characters.

Rant over.

I'm not sure audiences will want to see a Mass Effect movie with how people reacted to the end of the Shepard's story . . .
