Hello all. I just recently began playing DAO, and im still learning it a bit. I have been in several battles and noticed that Allistair has not been doing anything, even when getting attacked. I am new to the kind of tactics system in DAO, so I'm wondering If I have him programmed wrong. Any suggestions or recommended tactics? thanks.

Put him as defense...

Set his tactics to defense. Each time you level him up, rest his tactics to defense and the new talent will be added to his tactics automatically. Also add a tactic each time to have him use a health poultice if his health is <50% (or even <75%). He should be set then. With him set at default/defense, he won't rush into battle without being ordered to, but if attacked or if you're attacked he will jump into the fray from that point on.

I did originally have him set as defense and defender, but when we would be fighting multiple enemies, he would still just sit there and absorb punishment. heres what I had him doing:
1. self- activate: threaten
2. ememy: any- shield bash
3. ememy: nearest visible- switch to melee
4. ememy; >75%- shield pummel
idk I will try again today and see if he moves on his own. as the tank I assumed he would move on his own to try and draw threat.

I haven't had much luck with the defense behavior (on the right menu), try default. Also, make sure you don't have hold position on, and there is also an option to turn tactics off, so check to see if that is on, too.

Set his behaviour from default to aggressive, and have him attack nearest visible. However my set up for him is generally:
Behaviour -> set to aggressive
1) self health > 50: activate shield defence
2) self health < 50: activate shield wall
3) enemy health > 75%: assault
4) enemy health > 75%: overpower
5) enemy health > 75%: shield pummel
6) enemy using magic or ranged attack: shield bash
I've also noticed using the enemy health > 75% condition, actually makes him leave his current target to use an ability on another if his current target has health < 75. It's good for him as he tends to aggro everyone.

The first entry in ANYONE's tactics should be:
Self Health < 25% -> use health poultice, least powerful.
My other tactics for Alistair are:
Self-Any: Activate shield wall.
Self-Any: Activate threaten
Self-Any: Activate precise striking
Ally Attacked by melee attack: taunt
Ally grabbed: shield bash
Enemy nearest: overpower
Enemy nearest: assault
Enemy nearest:
This way he's always the center of attention, and unless something more urgent is happening, he just keeps doing his attack chain until he runs out of stamina.

Self-Vigor <90% Activate Threaten
Self-Vigor <75% Activate Shield wall
Self-Vigor <50% Activate champion's aura
Self-Vigor <50% Activate precise striking
Surrounded by 3+ enemies Use taunt
Surrounded by 4+ enemies Use Warcry
Enemy: Using magic Use Assault
That's what I use, I prefer using myself pots and skills with long cd's

Is it just me, or are badassmother's tactics contradictory? Do these work BAM? Looks like they'd cancel themselves out.

well it seems that I was disabling tactics by accident, and since i wasnt commanding him he wouldnt do anything. But i enabled them and hes doing fine. thanks
