Funny thing is is that Hideo orginally planned to have Snake and Octacon executed in the original ending, until his co-workers convinced him otherwise.

I really do love Metal Gear though.

Kojima is god when it comes to videogames. Simple as that.

From what I've been reading, in this thread so far, it doesn't even sound like a video game.

Even though I agree that MSG4's ending is better than ME3's one, MSG4 is not a videogame, is a movie. Cutscenes are ok if they are done and used properly, but one hour cutscene? The plot should be narrated alongside gameplay, not by cutting the whole videogame in tiny bits like this one. You play 20 minutes, then watch a 25 minutes cutscene, then play 30 minutes, then more 15 minutes of cutscenes... c'mon!

Personally, if I wanted video games to lean to an art form, I would prefer it to go towards MGS4's style.

Then you should play Shadow of the Colossus. Keep in mind that a videogame needs gameplay, needs the player to interact with its world, its universe. MGS4 doesn't follow videogame rules, it's basically a movie with few gameplay. That's art? Yeah, it could be art... as a movie. IIRC Kojima wanted to be a movie director :?

I'd prefer games remained games.

it's not really, it's more of a euphoria if you've been playing the series since the beginning. a perfect ending for Snake.

You could argue that MGS4 is more close to art since requires minimal interaction of the player.
You just put things in motion and see it happen in a cutscene.

Couldn't disagree more (though not about Shadow, that is a great game).  The Metal Gear series and MGS4 can't simply be boiled down to 'interactive movie', they're gameplay is a large part of what people like about them and MGS was a leader in the stealth genre in its day.  Saying otherwise is just pretending that doesn't exist.

I've always been a big fan of the entire MGS series. I wonder what Kojima's thoughts are/would be on the Mass Effect series and its end?

It's understandable that people would want less movie and more gameplay, but the gameplay is excellent. Stealth and guns a blazin' are both viable. The overall experience is incredible storytelling.

Please, don't even compare.
MGS is like The Godfather while Mass Effect has been reduced to Micheal Bay's Transformers

nah, The Godfather made sense.

MGS4 was amazing from start to finish, ME3 was crap from start to the ending. at least MGS didnt reduce popular characters to bare minimum cameo roles. Hideo is a genius

bioware should take some tips from Hideo D: granted like I said in another thread I did have some gripes about mgs4 but ultimately it was a great ending. Gave closure unlike ME3 =/

Well, that's simply my opinion. I played MGS (actually I had two copies signed by Kojima, shows how much I love this series <3 ), then MSG2, MSG3 (almost the best game I ever played) and then MSG4 and even though I loved its story, I noticed there were too many cutscenes, the game was not... fluent, if that's the correct word. I really enjoyed MSG4 and I love stealth games and still.. 1 hour cutscene is too much even for a Metal Gear game. Actually I nearly missed a flight because of that ending xDDD

I remember beating MGS4 about an hour before I had to leave for work. I figured I'd just watch a quick cutscene and be done with it. Ended up barely making it on time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: MGS4 had one of the most protracted, convoluted, and excruciatingly long endings ever. It's actually painful for me to watch, and not because of emotional attachment to the characters. It's a perfect example of what NOT to do when ending a series, on the opposite spectrum from how ME3 ended. The entire exposition of the plot they did could have been done in less than half the time, with far less melodramatics--->recovery--->melodramatics--->recovery--->fake death--->recovery--->melodramatics--->real deathFINALLY (overly simplified sequence). And I LOVED the Metal Gear series.
I take that back. It's painful for me to even think  about the MGS4 ending.

MGS4 was absolutely bloody brilliant. ME3 was the exact opposite.
And at least Kojima knows when to rein in his own artistic vision for the sake of an ending worthy to the series.

Don't ge me wrong.  I'm all for differing opinions, but what you've just written sounds more like 'too much story, not enogh gameplay' rather than the way you characterised it in your previous post which (seemingly) almost completely devalued the quality of the gameplay and ignored what Metal Gear accomplished in those areas.  I maybe agree that 1 hour is a bit long, but I didn't really complain myself at the time since I still enjoyed it.  I like that Kojim indulges here and there (though I'm not going to argue that he be allowed to do everything he wants unrestrained).

Also, I couldn't help but lol at the missed flight bit.

Are you people serious, I mean sure ME 3's ending is a disappointment but MSG4 is just about one of the most retarded games ever - and i use the term "game" loosely since you cant really call something that consist of over 50% cut scenes a game, Hell sometimes i even get the feeling that my PS 3resents me for being in the same as it when it's playing this game for it self..it's like MSG4 is a PlayStation 3 masturbation disk.

The writing is outright horrible and makes about as much sense as ME 3 but as a bonus you get the constant repetition of sentences like "Nanomachines" -"Nanomachines?" -"Nanomachines!" .

honestly I didn't know what to expect with ME3's ending. after seeing ME2's ending I felt like a champion, like I accomplished something. I felt AWESOME. I had an idea of how ME3's ending should have been, I believe the word DRAGONFORCE would summarize it, certainly didn't expect what we got...

Mgs4 is a great game but the ending is terrible, overwritten, boring, pretentious crap. The opening is fantastic and it has amazing boss fights. The storyline goes downhill in the final act
