ME2 had half hour of cutscene for the last mission and the ending.

You mean 8 minutes. It was 8 minutes.

Metal Gear solid 4 may not have been the best in the series but the ending is definitely a good example on how to end a series. My favorite was MGS3 actually.

Lord of the rings movies is a great example of a decent ending as well.

MGS4 is a pretty outstanding display of japanese writing when compared to its contempory's. Yes it has all of the rediculous things you might expect out of something from japan but you kind of signed up for that.

If you played MGS you liked cutscenes. If you didn't like cutscenes then why would you play the game? Mass Effect has a similar problem. People who hate dialogue will not play those games. That doesn't make Mass Effect bad and that doesn't mean that Mass Effect doesn't have gameplay.

Metal Gears "I would rather watch a movie" isn't really as scathing as, "I don't see why people want to play a dating sim" that Mass Effect gets. Just let people have their tastes.

Yeah they do and they complained no end about it too. Now we have auto dialogue...yay for them too bad for the rest of us.

Many Tolkien purists are actually critical of Peter Jackson’s trilogy. However, the movies are obviously critically and financially a success. Remind you of anything? For the record, I love LOTR. It’s my favorite movie trilogy, but the purists were quite critical of Jackson’s adaptation.

Yes, MGS4's last cutscene was very long, but that's acceptable, because it was not only an exceptional ending ("the world is better of without snakes at all..."), it was the grand finale of the Metal Gear series (for example, many think MGS3 ending was even better) and it had to wrap everything up
And I don't understand the budget thing. You need money to create epic cinematics and gameplay. You DON'T need money to put in some decent writing

Really, the "Hardcore Fans" mad about something they didn't like ....................

To bad there isn't a parallel we could use that is recent or from the company that owns these very forums to create some form of hyperbole.

Grand Finale is the term I've been thinking of.

Holy hell, now thats how you end a series.
1) Damn near 30 minute long ending sequence to wrap things up {EDIT} Over an hour long cutscene
2) Each character gets their own finale
3) Final boss battle that was possibly the greatest  boss battle I've ever participated in

I love ME3, but damn, MGS4 really figured out how to end a characters story.,

Sorry but MGS4's ending with the whole 0-100 speech was one of the worst things ever. It's a great example of a game tying everything up far more than it ever needed to be.

MGS 1, 2, 3, and 4 were all my favorites... I can't pick one because all of those games are so damn good!

Ah, that game... The cut scenes were long, though! I remember having to pause the game in the middle of the cut scene, since I had to go somewhere... And my dad commented that it looks more like a movie than a video game...

Still, it was fun replaying it.

It's a deeply awesome game, but has too much Raiden. Especially too much Raiden with no arms...

MGS requires a whole lot of time to invest and understand. However, it's also rewarding. Yes, the cutscenes are long, but it's worth it.

And to everyone who claims MGS has no gameplay, please shut the hell up. Kojima is the guy who came up with the stealth genre. He has also set a new standard for gaming everytime an MGS game is released. Don't kid yourself.

This video sums up MGS4 pretty well I think.

MGS4 had a perfect ending and was a great way to cap off the best series in all of gaming. While I think MGS3 had a better last boss, MGS4's fight with Liquid was a great way to complete the saga.

And anyone who says MGS4 has too many or too lengthy cut scenes is an idiot or a troll.

Cant disagree with this. MGS4 had a good story and managed to tie every loose end together. I even shed a few tears at the end.
It also had the best boss fight ever and I dont mean the final one but the one were you are piloting Metal Gear Rex and fight against Metal Gear Ray. In ever other installment you fought against one but this time you piloted one yourself. I found that pretty awesome.

MGS4 was one of the greatest endings I have ever played in a game, if only ME3 could have been as great...

Hell yes. Check my sig.

As a side, I have NEVER felt emotion like I did on the final boss battle, ESPECIALLY the part where the SNAKE EATER theme song comes on, and you see the sun setting in the background. Man...this is one of the reasons why the ending for ME3 sucked so much for me....I had played MGS4 before it.

Anyone want the bad taste of Mass Effect series out of their mouth, buy all the metal gear games. They are worth it.

Disagree. MGS4's ending is great end to very inconsistent series, until you realise that the ending isn't the end, and you've still got 20 minutes of exposition on a subject that completely kills the mood and is largely unecessary. At the very least, it's terribly placed.

I'll come out and say it. For all its weaknesses, ME still ends better than the MGS series does.

EDIT: MGS3 is amazing, and one of my favourite games.

MGS 4 was knocked for its heavy use of cutscenes but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I thought the gameplay was great and the story was exceptional. The ending was truely a great way to finish the story of Snake and the final boss fight was right up there with the best of gaming.

Only if Hudson and co has played the game and taken the hint.

Yeah, because MGS doesnt' have any Space Magic or anything.

Overcomplicated story that is just flat out ridicilous, ontop of a more cinematic over gameplay experience.

Yeah, I'll take ME anyday over MGS. Altho I do enjoy MGS, but that's mostly because for nostalgic stuff.

Are you people serious, I mean sure ME 3's ending is a disappointment but MSG4 is just about one of the most retarded games ever - and i use the term "game" loosely since you cant really call something that consist of over 50% cut scenes a game, Hell sometimes i even get the feeling that my PS 3resents me for being in the same as it when it's playing this game for it self..it's like MSG4 is a PlayStation 3 masturbation disk.

The writing is outright horrible and makes about as much sense as ME 3 but as a bonus you get the constant repetition of sentences like "Nanomachines" -"Nanomachines?" -"Nanomachines!" .

Good thing you're in the minority and many more appreciate finer things in life for what they are.
