This thread just reminded me of an awesome little MGS4 ending comic.

Before ME3, I thought that the ME series as a whole would overtake MGS 4 as my favourite video game. Unfortunately not.

Solid versus Liquid is the best final boss battle ever.
But yeah with ME3, as I was even playing it, once Shep got hit by Harbinger, the following scene actually reminded me of MGS4. Shep walking all half blown to hell inside the heart of some big machine complex, just like MGS4.
Too bad everything after was nothing like it and sucked.

Then we rolled on Rex,
Then we faced Ray,
Then we had the microwave scene,
Then we had the last boss.
Then the ending sequence.
What else can i say?

Sigint became Darpa Chief? Ocelot was "good" all along, yet tried to kill me all the time? Cute Paramedic was Dr. Clark (Naomi's mother), and created the abysmal Les Infant Terribles (or smth) project? Raiden was working for Campbell - when?! operation Big Shell was monitored by VI of the Colonel (since the very beginning of the game it is VI talking about Solid Snake being traitor).
Vamp was immortal, because some nanomachines could heal his wounds...including headshots? What about running on water, he was alway para-natural character, yet Kojima wanted to explain all about him. How about Cobra Unit, what kind of nano-machines did they have? None, so what, "magic" is ok for some characters, yet others need explanation?
MGS4 ending told us, that Big Boss wasn't burned on Volta river, it was Solidus - so why EVA jumped into flames? Why Solid didn't pull the trigger, it is so out of character for him. Major Zero, the truly "paragon" character in MGS3 was made into monster, what changed when BB killed him, how Zero can become "one" when he was like 120 years old and was no threat at all.
MGS2 was meant as end an to a series, Kojima wanted to end on a large mistery, with "12 founding members, who are dead for over 100 years", with Raiden accepting reality and not questioning is Rose a real person who loves him, or only Patriot's agent. It was about believing Solid Snake will do hard work "for us", so Raiden can have a normal life, outside combat and memories of the past.
So no, MGS 4 ending was not "perfect", it was farfatched beyond belief, most of the plot was written "on the fly", Kojima was adding and tying up "loose ends" that never needed explaining. It was really bad, overlong, had no impact, and Snake not killing himself was the last straw, MGS is nothing to me as a series now. Actually, Kojima wanted Snake to pull the trigger, but his co-workers "Held the Line", so he changed the ending into what it is now - a pile of gibberish nonsense. Thank you.

I remember that scene. It was pretty intense and quite emotional, despite the fact that it was just an old man crawling on the floor. I think i almost broke my controller.
That game had so many unforgettable moments, hunting the wolf in winter, Raiden and Vamp fighting while you're blasting the gekkos, "The Best is Yet to Come" playing when Snake went back to Shadow Moses. Truly amazing.

I like the cutscenes, don't misunderstand, but that one hellova way to break immersion if not done correctly.

You're playing a story in MGS4, but in ME you're adjusting the story as you go along with the "choices".
My point was - I would expect lots of auto dialogue from a set story.
I think MGS4 gets it though, it needed them. After 3(6 including the older consoles) previous games those huge cutscenes were a long time coming. ME3 could have used a few shorter ones inserted in key places. No points for guessing where.

MGS4 is actually not that great. I was a fan of Metal Gear since the incredible-yet-flawed-MGS2, and series only went down after that. MGS3 story is way more newcomers-friendly, yet MGS4 is like a mine field for everyone outside the fandom. So it is created for fans, yet story got changed so stupidly and illogicaly -
Wow, no. Now I've seen it all, someone who thought that MGS2 was "incredible" and MGS4 wasn't that great. That's the ME equivalent of someone loving ME1 and thinking the next two were complete and utter garbage.
For those of you who have never played MGS [PS era], let me illuminate. The first was amazing but the graphics are so dated they're relatively painful to see. This is reflected upon on MGS4 when you travel to an identical location years after the first game you get to see how far video games have come. Still, the gameplay is, to this day, fun and the cutscenes are good enough to warrant playing through the game just to see again. These days you can youtube I guess...but I'd rather load up the old save files.
MGS1 also features the greatest boss in any video game, ever. That's not just my opinion, either. Not boss fight, but boss in general. There's no need for words...
MGS2 is a thing that we will not speak of. Imagine something as horrid as the endings of ME3 happening an hour into the game and you continue playing in disbelief that something as awesome as MGS1 could go so sideways. It was so jarring that the creator of the series basically apologized in the next game with his characters.
MGS3 remains one of the best games made period and certainly belongs on any top ten list. It blows away MGS1 as far as gameplay, story and cinematics go which was damn near impossible before. It was so good it makes MGS2 okay and if it was meant to be an "I'm sorry" from Hideo Kojima, the apology was accepted. I can't even begin to tell you about the things that game got right if you haven't played it. Just get a hold of a working PS2 and MGS1-3. If you really want to do it right, get yourself a copy of MG: Subsistence.
Which brings us to MGS4. Had ME3 been given the love and cash MGS4 was I've no doubt it could have been the greatest game made ever. The difference is that Hideo Kojima loves media. He loves James Bond. He loves taking photos of his food. More than anything else though he loves/loved his creation in the MGS series and like a proud parent he never once forgot about his own lore. Echoes of the first 8 bit MG game make it all the way to the last, a 60M masterpiece. This is the work of a man who makes games that come the closest to breaking out of their medium.
I'll say this about the cutscenes in MGS4: you can skip them. You wouldn't want to, but MGS4 isn't Xenogears. The boss battles are probably the best of the series and just when you think you've got everything figured out, you're still thrown a curveball at the end. And if you want bang for your buck? I've spent hundreds of hours on MGS4's online mode without ever paying a penny beyond the 60 bucks I spent on it years ago. Not only does the game deserve multiple playthroughs but you can still load up the online mode and CQC fools right now.
And the end? Everyone's already talked about it but certainly the best, most deserved end to the best trilogy/tetralogy to ever grace a console machine.

If you're familiar with the MG universe, you'd be able to suspend disbelief for that. It's not exactly the first time someone thought to be dead returned from the dead.

Mass Effect should have reach Mgs4 standards just because it had everything working for it before release, and they stuffed EVERYTHING up

MGS4 ending is not that cinematic, most part it's just pictures with way to much blahblah...
One thing i can say about MGS4 is it did not have the Epic ending (Not including the bossfight here)
But al least it was a fitting ending, one that does not feel out of place because of some blue space boy.
