From the descriptions of both of these it seems that there is no reason to buy spectre packs.

A spectre pack costs 60000 and has at least one rare or better.
A premium spectre pasts costs 99000 and has at least two rares.

SP price for two guaranteed rares 120000
PSP price for two guaranteed rares 99000

plus there is the higher chance for ultra rares in the PSP

I dont really understand what bioware was thinking here, the psp made sense as a "special" weekend pack but to have it all the time imo makes a spectre pack obsolete and useless. unless of course you are going for more high level consumables. Am I missing something?

People are impatient. They'll spend $60k to get something rather than have to wait.

@SilverKeyMan: Yes, yes they are. When you get (at least) twice the value from something for a little over 50% of the price, you should wait to get the credits.

Spectre packs - more equipment. Not as annoying if character cards or in it.
I find PSP's come with at least on character card more often than not.

I've got almost all my N7 stuff from SP, only 1 weapon is from PSP. Better drop from SP for me.

Ha, I see you don't have your characters unlocked yet. Once you unlock all your characters, they still give you "character" cards as the rares. So you end up paying 99,000 credits for three useful things and two usless character cards. I know this because I have had the xbox version since launch and just bought the PC version this week. In the beginning its great buying the PSP - you get all kinds of great stuff, with no duplicates. Then once the characters are unlocked you hit the dislike of those darn character cards.

I'd agree with you... But I've gotten better stuff (Black widow, Javeline, GPS etc.) from the SP than the PSP.....  Except when it comes to an Asari Justicar, they both suck for me on that one <_<

Today I purchased 25 Premium Spectre Packs in a row (yes, 6,000 Microsoft Points; someone please flame me). I didn't get a SINGLE weapon. The only weapons I don't have maxed out are the Ultra-Rares, but 25 PSP's and not a single weapon? "Includes 5 random items or characters, with at least 2 Rares or better and a higher chance for Ultra-Rares."

orly?

This was a very expensive and extremely disappointing experiment. All I want is a higher level Paladin so I can inflate my own ego some more. I'm going to submit my opinion that the Spectre Pack is ultimately a far better investment than the Premium Spectre Pack no matter the method used to purchase them. All of my Ultra-Rares have come from Spectre Packs - nada from PSP's. So sad.

I got my Talon and Scorpion from a regular spectre pack and I got my Javelin in a psp. I would say a better chance for ultra-rares are in the normal spectre pack. I normally just get psp's to max out my rare weapons quicker and get more options for my rare characters. I hope there's more characters to add to the uncommon section. It seems really bare at the moment with just six characters in comparison to the common and rare sections.

PSP's used to be available only during promotional events. Now that they are always available, there really is no reason to get the Spectre packs over the PSP's.

Spector packs give you level III exuipment, so yes, they are still valuable.

I too have not receiver an upgraded weapon since last Friday, I've bought 30+ packs. On the plus side my soldier and engineer went 1-20 without playing a match with them.

18 UR drops
3 from PSP
15 from SP

You know what? I bought more PSP than SP. The most stupid thing I could ever have done was wasting credits for PSP. they are bullcrap if u ask me. I dont see a higher drop rate in PSP: And im REALLY pissed off since I bought more than 40 PSP during the last 7 days and didnt get ANY N7 weapon. never gonna buy that **** again.

I feel sorry for you. I've been trolled by store but only when I've spent credits. The only time I've spent BioWare points I was lucky to get BW II and smth else and that was day one after release :) Since PSPs were introduced it tend to go from like 30-50 empty PSPs in a row (well, with 1 drop maybe) to 4 URs out of 3 PSPs, 8 out of 20 and such, then back to nada, then back to drops... And now at least half of my ultra-rares come from PSPs.

And to OP: yeah, if you're after URs and only URs then PSPs are far better investment in a long run.

If you still need any Uncommon unlocks, Spectre packs give you a better shot at those since there are 3 slots that may feature silver cards (the first card in both the PSP and SP is always a +5 consumable, which means a PSP only has two potential silver cards). Because each one also gives you a +5 consumable, the SP is also better choice if you want to keep your missiles/medigels/etc. stocked up. I'd rather buy a PSP and a jumbo equipment pack for only 10k more than two SPs, though.

I have everything but URs maxed. I have been debating on which of these to buy from now on. The regular spectre packs will give me a lot of good equipment. The PSPs don't give nearly as much equipment, but they are supposed to have a better UR drop rate.

If you're playing on PS3 tomorrow, it appears the answer is neither:

20000 Credits says the store AI was finally planning on giving me BatSoldier, BW or Falcon tomorrow...

I used to buy PSP but after getting lots of character cards and only one ultra rare (Black Widow), I went back to Spectre packs and they seem to drop ultra rares more - all of the rest of mine are from Spectre packs. They are my lucky pack :)

This may sound crazy, but I've received an ultra rare weapon in the last five PSPs I've bought. (I have every other weapon type maxed out.)

It's all RNG.  If you want ultra-rare's/rare's, PSP's give the most chance per credit spent.

I've gotten awful stuff from PSPs lately. Finally decided to buy a regular SP, and lo and behold got an ultra-rare out of the first pack. Also still didn't have ULM until yesterday...now it's at level 4. Yeah yeah, it's all random, but PSPs were really giving pretty crap stuff.

how is it that PSP's have a "higher chance for ultra rares" but people keep claiming that they are getting more UR's in SP's.

can anyone explain?

if this is legit, then we are being lied to and the verbiage needs to be changed or the packs need to do what they are claiming. I've purchased countless PSP's and i keep getting character cards that i don't even need any more. I'm still missing the GE! why don't i even get that?

i decided to hoard until DLC.

Buy a psp and get 2 CCs and then buy a SP and get a BC. No stats to back it up but my last two black cards have come from doing this...
