From the descriptions of both of these it seems that there is no reason to buy spectre packs.

A spectre pack costs 60000 and has at least one rare or better.
A premium spectre pasts costs 99000 and has at least two rares.

SP price for two guaranteed rares 120000
PSP price for two guaranteed rares 99000

plus there is the higher chance for ultra rares in the PSP

I dont really understand what bioware was thinking here, the psp made sense as a "special" weekend pack but to have it all the time imo makes a spectre pack obsolete and useless. unless of course you are going for more high level consumables. Am I missing something?

below is a post I did a while go on this. I am guessing it doesn't works out exaclty this way, but I have had much more luck in getting regular, and I have leveled up my weapons pretty fast. And although it has been a while since I have seen two rares in a regular (it can happen), I ALWAYS get a character card in a PSP, in one of the rare slots, so essentially I am paying 65% more for a char card, while getting the same weapon upgrade. . And I have gotten 5 Ultra rares in the last 16 regulars I have bought, over the last 3 days (another Paladin (II) today...., making 2 Paladin, 1 Talon, 1 Black Widow, and 1 Saber). I'll stick wiht the regulars. You get a lot more items....
_________________________________________________________________________________
i dont think the premiums are worth it (anyway), unless you only want ultra rares. They are ~70% more than spectre, so the math...

6 premium spectre packs - 600k
12 guaranteed rare
30 total items

10 spectre packs 600k
10 guaranteed rares
50 total items

But
wait, there is more. You have a 6% chance in the other slots in a
regular specre of pulling a rare, and a 5% chance in a premium. But in
the regular you have more slots, so...

there are 40 "possible
rare" slots in 10 regulars, giving a 240% chance you will pull more
rares in those 10. If the random actually worked, it would be on average
~12.5 rares out of 10 packs, or 25 out of 20. In the premium you have a
5% chance of pulling a rare in the open slots, with 18 open slots in 6
packs, that is a 90% chance, or roughly an extra rare per 6. So out of 6
packs, you should end up with roughly 13 rares, or 26 per 12. So out of
1.2 million credits spent, (12 premium or 20 regular), you get a
whooping 1 additional rare, and 40 less items.

Today I purchased 25 Premium Spectre Packs in a row (yes, 6,000 Microsoft Points; someone please flame me). I didn't get a SINGLE weapon. The only weapons I don't have maxed out are the Ultra-Rares, but 25 PSP's and not a single weapon? "Includes 5 random items or characters, with at least 2 Rares or better and a higher chance for Ultra-Rares."

orly?

This was a very expensive and extremely disappointing experiment. All I want is a higher level Paladin so I can inflate my own ego some more. I'm going to submit my opinion that the Spectre Pack is ultimately a far better investment than the Premium Spectre Pack no matter the method used to purchase them. All of my Ultra-Rares have come from Spectre Packs - nada from PSP's. So sad.

THIS! EXACTLY!

I feel your pain....

I wish the %s they talk about were more transparent. What is the chance for an ultra rare in a psp vs sp. if we knew that maybe it would be easier to decide what to buy.

Where did you find the chance of more rares in the packs? is this posted somewhere or is this something you worked out on your own?

This is where I got it from:

Honestly I dunno if it is accurate, and even it it was, I wouldn't be surprised if it has changed. But it sems farily close, based on my experience...

I really wish ppl would finally understand:

1. If you dont have all chars and all rares maxed out: PSP is great.
2. If you want UR drops: PSP is the most stupid thing u could do. Its epic fail. There is no higher drop rate on PSP.

I spent between 5-10 Millions on PSP and got 3 UR.
15 URs for like 100 SPs. And almost the same goes for three friends of mine and I talked to many others. PSP are the worst thing you could do if ur looking for UR drop. There are no higher chances. Only a higher price plus lower amount of equipment. They are only good if you promote chars and really want the 500K character cards.

I agree. I have gotten 5 URs in the last 20 or so RSPs I have opened. I get a lot of Chars in the PSPs.

how is it that PSP's have a "higher chance for ultra rares" but people keep claiming that they are getting more UR's in SP's.

can anyone explain?

Yes, it's random.  Every flipped a normal coin and gotten heads ten times in a row?   There's no reason it can't happen since it is, after all, random.

The PSP is like "pay me, and roll this die and if you get a 5 or a 6, you get a prize", the SP is like "pay me, and roll this die, and if you get a 6 you get a prize."  You might roll more 6s on the second die than you roll 5s and 6s on the first die.

Personally, I buy PSPs because I don't have any of the rare weapons maxed out.

if this is legit, then we are being lied to and the verbiage needs to be changed or the packs need to do what they are claiming. I've purchased countless PSP's and i keep getting character cards that i don't even need any more. I'm still missing the GE! why don't i even get that?

i decided to hoard until DLC.

Because for every person who doesn't get one rare per specter pack, .75 people get two. They don't brag on the forums as they're happy and content. Besides, no one wants to hear it.

TLDR: They're the vocal ones.

RNG can't be judged on a sample size of 10-20ish. You would need thousands of PSPs and/or SPs to draw any kind of "pattern" or "drop rate". Comes down to whether you want two 1% chances for 120k or a 2% chance for 99k. Arbitrary percentages that are probably inaccurate.
