It was Batwoman, and she had her own book. Also, it's not the first DC character they've outed. They've also done the same in Marvel a lot. Don't see why this is news. If anyone's gonna be gay, I would've thought it was Rayner without anyone saying anything.
grant morrison ranted this month that batman is and i quote ** very very gay**

As for gay characters in the Batman universe, I remember Montoya is, and Harley's made references to having sex with Ivy. I'm not sure about Cassandra, but they forgot about her the last time I was reading comics.

I always figured Bruce sexuality to be non-existent or very dysfunctional. If we go by Miller's Year One, which almost everyone does, he has zero interest in women as Bruce and is only interested in Selina as Batman. So gay? I'm not sure, but there's a big possibility the guy could be a virgin well into his 30's since he would give no one the time of day, until he returned to Gotham as an adult.

They've done it to a few classics as well. Colossus is now gay as well as the new Spider-man. There are a few others like Typhoid Mary, but there are too many to remember them all.

Now that Harley and Ivy stuff was always cool, because Batman: TAS is cool.
And last time I looked, Ultimate Colossus is the only gay Colossus.

TAS was awesome and they have Emmy's to prove it.
Last time I checked the ultimate continuity is considered the current continuity. The original books are given less attention.

If it was a reboot or something like that, I wouldn't have issue even if that doesn't change the publicity angle. But doing this to a current canon? I'm not into comic books, but I'm pretty sure every successful DC superhero has had a few, if not several recurring opposite sex love interests through their history. This doesn't make a lick of sense.
On the bright side, I hear comic book writers do an excellent job of somehow erasing things fans don't like out of the story via plot devices or retcons and then pretending they never happened. This'll probably end up like that.

Miller is kind of a stupid person and writer(also sexist and crazy). He only gets respect because he made comics "adult" but people did that much better than he did, ten years before he did.android654 wrote...

Not one of his books has aged well and his newer stuff is poop.
He is more like one of the worst things that happened to comics.
Now TAS is a much better Batman.
Oh I have no clue why you think Marvel has the Ultimate continuity as the current continuity. They are trying to get the Ultimate continuity back on it's feet, if anything.
And the normal stuff gets all the attention and promos. When was the last you were at a comic shop or a comic news site?

More LGBT readers. They want it to feel more like real life. Just because.greengoron89 wrote...
So, what's the point of changing all these characters' sexualities, exactly?
Take your pick, I am sure I forgot some reasons.

People will shout political correctness, as if that hasn't become enough of a buzzterm from the right. In reality, putting it like that assumes people will get offended if particular characters don't come out of the closet. And I have a hard time believing anyone has been specifically asking or expecting for Batman or Superman to turn out to be gay against all previously established facts.greengoron89 wrote...

Either they can't bother to come up with a new gay character because it's too much effort, want the buzz about changing an existing character, or both.
