Nothing but a bad stunt for publicity. Why else go about it like this with an existing character?

If it was a reboot or something like that, I wouldn't have issue even if that doesn't change the publicity angle. But doing this to a current canon? I'm not into comic books, but I'm pretty sure every successful DC superhero has had a few, if not several recurring opposite sex love interests through their history. This doesn't make a lick of sense.

On the bright side, comic book writers do an excellent job of somehow erasing things fans don't like out of the story via plot devices or retcons and then pretending they never happened. This'll probably end up like that.

Some people go their whole lives living one way then suddenly realize they're more suited for living another way. The only trick in fiction is writing it in a believable way.

Leave Batman alone that's all I got to say.

I wouldn't care if he's gay since there's so many jokes about him being a pedophile for half a century now.

Not saying it couldn't be done well. Just that it's unlikely beyond my capacity to suspend disbelief and I don't like the probable intention and circumstances behind this decision.

This reminds me of what happened to Willow in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Was suddenly lesbian (not even just bi, IIRC) even though she'd previously been written as straight and had a heterosexual relationship. Always seemed a little strange to me, although it didn't take too long for me to get used to it.

So, what's the point of changing all these characters' sexualities, exactly?

People will shout political correctness, as if that hasn't become enough of a buzzterm from the right. In reality, putting it like that assumes people will get offended if particular characters don't come out of the closet. And I have a hard time believing anyone has been specifically asking or expecting for Batman or Superman to turn out to be gay against all previously established facts.

Either they can't bother to come up with a new gay character because it's too much effort, want the buzz about changing an existing character, or both.

But they have made some new gay characters Batwoman(she is next to nothing like her old self) and the Teen Titans member Bunker. And both of them are fine characers in my view.

@Cthulhu42 Willow should of been bi, imo. But Joss Whedon always wanted to make either her or Xander gay. He picked Willow(duh).

If DC wants to be inclusive, then they should be making new gay characters and/or putting greater emphasis on existing ones. Pleasing the LGBT community requires nothing more than that. Going this far with it makes me suspect DC's just trying to get attention.

All DC wants is attention, more so since they did their not-reboot reboot.=]

Meh, it just strikes me as extremely contrived to turn some of these characters gay IMHO - particularly Spider-Man and Batman.

It would feel more natural for a new character, or a character whose sexuality hadn't previously been determined.

It was Batwoman, and she had her own book. Also, it's not the first DC character they've outed. They've also done the same in Marvel a lot. Don't see why this is news. If anyone's gonna be gay, I would've thought it was Rayner without anyone saying anything.

Batwoman still has her own book and she's still gay in it. Its also one of the best reads in the new 53 (mainly because they didn't change it at all for that)

I'd be surprised if it was Rayner. He's the source of the 'girlfriend in refrigerator' meme and had enough other girlfriends since then. (Donna Troy, Jade, etc. etc.) I doubt it will be anyone too major, and if it proves too controversial, then they'll just undo it whenever they und ot he rest of the current DC makeover.

Hold on there mister! There's a reason, one thwat was well explained as to why Willow was gay. She was pushed away from the only 2 men she had any affection for. In that she was left cast-off from the rest of the scoobies and was back to feeling invisible like she did before she found Oz. Then Terra comes in and Willow feels affection in a way she hadn't previously. She found that affection and care in one woman that she was unable to find in two men. That's really where it began, in the show it's fleshed out in much more detail and never feels forced as if it were there to be provocative.

They should of had Geoff Johns help make the Green Lantern movie. It may have been better then.:?

@greengoron89 On the character whose sexuality hadn't previously been determined thing. Do You mean someone like Black Canary? Gail Simone almost had her come-out as bi. But thanks to a placeholder dialog mistake, the line never got into the book. Instead we had Canary saying something very stupid, she said she was "heterosexual to the bone".=]

"Heterosexual to the bone"? Are you serious? That's one of the lamest lines I've ever heard. :D

Almost as lame as the CGI in the Green Lantern movie... but not quite.

I am not kidding, but she is kidding herself if she thinks she is "heterosexual to the bone".

i actually wrote a script for a gl film after i saw the current one

this is the one i did off the top of my head really

the second film can open up with the weaponers go to kourgar to set up a base to start making weapons, the people of kourgar fear them as a threat and take action wich leads to violence.

: meanwile on oa on the citadel:

sinestro requests that the guardians send corps members to help aid him in defending his homeworld of kourgar from the weaponers...

the guardians refuse to send the aid and sinestro demands that the guardians step down and pass there power over to him and states that he can install great fear into the enemey and puts on the yellow ring,

witnessing the act of having the yellow ring at this moment the guardians declare sinestro a traitor to the corps and honor guard lanterns are dispatched to take sinestro into custody.

sinestro kills the honor guards in front of the guardians and relinquishes his green lantern ring by his own will and leaves oa.

the guardians summon hal jordan and request his presence and they inform him of sinestros turn to the emotion of fear and yellow energy, they also explain to hal that after krona was banished and hidden away with parallax the punishment was due to krona creating the anti-matter universe.

hal jordan go's on a hunt for sinestro

sinestro returns to his homeworld of kourgar yellow ring and costume and starts to become a dictator and declares himself savior of kourgar and starts killing weaponers left and right.

while hal jordan searches for sinestro he gets a trasmission from kilowog telling him sinestro is on kourgar and meet you there poozer..

hal heads to sinestros home sector arrives onto the planet and see's total devestation and bodies everywhere.

hal see's sinestro floating over a pile of dead weaponers with a sadistic smirk and hears him tell the people of kourgar to bow to him and worship him as a god.

hal confronts sinestro trying to explain that the yellow ring has corrupted him....

sinestro throws the first punch and says human you have no idea who your talking to.

hal responds with a fist construct hitting sinestro wile both floating in the air.

sinestro recovers and the first start to an epic encounter happens

both men fight it out with sinestro getting the upper hand and just when hal is almost out and sinestro is about to kill him, kilowog comes in and knocks sinestro off balance.

sinestro shrugs it off and fires a blast of energey at kilowog and knocks him out cold.

hal recovers and shows sinestro why hes the man without fear by taking it up a few notches.

he creates one giant construct of a f-22 raptor plane and hits sinestro with it.

sinestro knocked out falls to the ground and hal go's to check on kilowog.

back on oa the guardians place sinestro into the central power battery and credit hal jordan for his bravery

before the film ends theres two suprise scenes

scene 1. sinestro is shown inside the battery and is revealed to be a construct from his ring

scene 2. sayd and ganthet are alone in a private chamber discussing how they have to HOPE sinestros turn hasnt misplaced the trust of 3600 sectors with the guardians and they forge a blue ring

Birds of Prey has had it's high and low points over the years. But Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone writing them as lesbian superhero team is a high point for me.

Okay I am done being a stupid guy now.:innocent:

You are not missing much. The new series run is so-so, not bad just not great.

Simone's new Batgirl run is a lot better.

Now that person she ends up hooking up with in the final season though, that's another story entirely.
