My mistake. Obviously they would decide to make an existing "iconic" character gay just because they care and feel your pain. Ulterior motives? Unthinkable.
I do think it's very possible there's an ulterior motive. A publicity stunt to gain more of an LGBT fanbase and just generate buzz is something I mentioned several times, though I now acknoledge that's just an assumption.
I also realize that it's possible they're just interested in doing a character and/or plot like that. The comic book industry has done everything to death and DC might just want to try something new and topical in doesn't have much experience in.
I don't know and neither do you.
But liberal agenda? Well obviously there's a liberal component if they're allowing it, but that doesn't make the decision a political or social statement. Even if it is it's perfectly within their right as the creators of the work. Pandering? Well gays are an insignificant pack of juvenile sickos who aren't worth any kind of consideration in your eyes anyway so there's no point arguing with you there. Political correctness? Absolutely. I was so hurt and offended at the thought that an iconic DC character wasn't gay in the new continuity. I didn't even have to think about it until now to experience the pain. I'm sure there were many others feeling that way, as well.
