My mistake. Obviously they would decide to make an existing "iconic" character gay just because they care and feel your pain. Ulterior motives? Unthinkable.

Maybe you didn't read my posts here.

I do think it's very possible there's an ulterior motive. A publicity stunt to gain more of an LGBT fanbase and just generate buzz is something I mentioned several times, though I now acknoledge that's just an assumption.

I also realize that it's possible they're just interested in doing a character and/or plot like that. The comic book industry has done everything to death and DC might just want to try something new and topical in doesn't have much experience in.

I don't know and neither do you.

But liberal agenda? Well obviously there's a liberal component if they're allowing it, but that doesn't make the decision a political or social statement. Even if it is it's perfectly within their right as the creators of the work. Pandering? Well gays are an insignificant pack of juvenile sickos who aren't worth any kind of consideration in your eyes anyway so there's no point arguing with you there. Political correctness? Absolutely. I was so hurt and offended at the thought that an iconic DC character wasn't gay in the new continuity. I didn't even have to think about it until now to experience the pain. I'm sure there were many others feeling that way, as well.

aaaaayep.  Although, now that I think about it, gay readers may want a gay character who isn't a rapist.

It's true. I have a tally for polar bear kills on my Conservative Rethuglican card which the Dark Lord Cheney hands out.

There's a difference between a conservative and condescending and contemptful, verbally-repetitive single-target-cynic.

Somebody's mad. If it makes you feel better I'm condescending towards everybody. And you say cynic like it's a bad thing. How bigoted. Oh and I do like Elton John and the Village People so your accusations are invalid.

I'm not mad. I genuinely enjoy these little, patronizing talks.

I wasn't aware that cynics were a minority group subject to discrimination now. I'd be sure to be more politically correct next time, but I'm not sure you'd appretiate that.

I know right? It's been too long since you've complained about my terrible ignorance.

You were the one going on about how political correctness is such a great thing after all. So you ought to respect that I come from a long and proud line of cynics dating back to ancient times. In fact I just decided that cynics are underrepresented in media. Such oppression. How can a proponet of social justice like yourself stand for this?

I don't recall calling you ignorant. Just a guy with a skewed, bad attitude who uses the same two words every other sentence.

I want to be politically correct (I only said it was good when sensible), but, if you're an example, your kind don't like political correctness. So to be politically correct I have to be politically incorrect! But that's not being politically correct! See my dilemma?

Oh and I do like Elton John and the Village People so your accusations are invalid.

You also think gays should be subject to discriminatory policies in the military 'cause they're gonna eventually say or imply that they're gay to people when making friends. Then you said something that basically amounted to people who are disgusted by gays and don't have the basic coping skills to tolerate acknoledgement of the fact that they work with them are deserving of more consideration than gays and speech equality and thus a policy that promotes social inequality should remain. Then you called gays who feel isolated, deceptive, or excluded because of the policy "sobs" while the people who feel their morals and views are somehow being violated by the basic rights of others of valid, rational feelings.

Finally you got on your regularly scheduled PC note and said soldiers would be discharged because gays are children and can't handle conflict so they'll get rid of anyone in their unit who doesn't like gays. A prediction that has been proved to be wrong if the many months following the repeal are any indication.

Guess what I'm paying more attention to or judge as more significant? The fact that you may like certain gay-related musicians or things like that?

At least that character will be back in the universe... it´s more than Wally West and Donna Troy can say (unless it´s one of them).

Idioms & Phrases

politically correct

Also, PC or p.c. Showing an effort to make broad social and political changes to redress injustices caused by prejudice. It often involves changing or avoiding language that might offend anyone, especially respect to gender, race, or ethnic background. For example, Editors of major papers have sent out numerous directives concerning politically correct language . This expression was born in the late 1900s, and excesses in trying to conform to its philosophy gave rise to humorous parodies.

If you guys are intollerant of intollerance then your're not really tollerant. Therefore you're not really politicly correct.

PC is broken and has been from day 1. As is the concept of social equality.

As the guy who made the child punishment thread I'd suspect you'd know the reason intolerance is treated as it is. Changing minds and conducts is much easier and effective by creating negative consequences for the behavior than using persuasion. What else can we do? Allow and enable it? Also minorities subject to intolerance are innocent while those who are intolerant are not. Behavior that has negative effects is par for negative consequences.

And PC does not apply to intolerance.

PC is good when used sensibly. If a minority is genuinely, truly offended by certain language or conduct and changing that offending factor has no real detrimental effect on others then it is common courtesy and respect to adjust yourself accordingly at least when you're around members of the group in question. It doesn't matter how you feel about the current status quo; this isn't about you. Should you choose not to change then prepare for consequences and don't act like the victim when you refuse to be respectful of others feelings.

Social equality is something humans should strive for regardless whether or not we can reach it on the most definitive terms.

Activism and advocacy are much more accurate and direct terms. As I said before this definition of PC is not the primary, original definition and it's shaky even as a secondary one considering the structure of the term.

But I suppose the two better terms don't have the applied negative sentiment attached to them so I can see why people haven't gotten around to using them.

I do not disagree that there are other definitions, but do oppose the idea that one is 'better' than another. Pick and choose as you wish, but that only makes my point.

Still, I have not aquired or read many comics in ages, and when I do see them in films, they are usually based on ones I have seen. It seems I am not missing much of anything....

That's still just Ultimate Spider-Man stuff, the only ones who make a big deal out of that are the Fox News people who think it's the normal version.

Just like that one time Superman renounced his U.S. citizenship. And because of that the Fox News people said they would never read a Marvel comic again...=]

Anyway I am sure they will have Peter back in Ultimate Spider-Man sooner than later.

They are a joke, I don't see what's wrong with hating on them.:?

Kinda guessing many bigots say the exact same thing about their own personal targets.

Oh I am sure.

But you do know when I say "hating" on them I mean "making fun" of them right? Like do you even know what Fox News does or what their history is?

Everyone likes to make fun of them.
