That's a good question. It's something that should be explored. This could've worked out well and given the devs some real atrtistic integrity points.

You play the role of an imaginary character, it isn't you, so his/her sexual orientation can be anything, regardless of yours

That was intentional, I didn't want Femshep fans to feel left out, Liara repeatedly mindrapes her too.

Maybe you're not, but your Shepard was before the attack.  Liara just wants to make her remember.
