Besides, ME was never a shooter.

That's a lie.

Granted, it had shooter elements, but the game wasn't primarily a shooter like ME3 tries to be.

What makes Mass Effect 3 more of a shooter than Mass Effect though? Combat is the majority activity in both games.

What I like about ME1 is that you can customize your teammates armors, & choose to have them individually what level of helmet to wear (gas mask or not).

Story wise, ME 1 is also better, but this is to be expected being a new franchise.

I thought Kotor is hard to top, but they did with ME series & some more.

IMO, the combat of ME3 is much better than ME1, you can play like a pure shooter, or more traditional RPG, depends on your play style & class. I play mostly like a shooter/action game in my first run as a vanguard, but more RPG with more use of power (power combos are awesome) in my current playthough as Sentinel.

I think the armor customization is fairly weak in ME3, & you can play the whole game without ever change any part of the armor & still not not much weaker, or at all.

I am not sold on a re-release, but I do not mind DLC for ME3 that adds more armor customization for squad mates, & more slots for guns. Or bring on ME4.

More then Gameplay needs a tweaking, recast Mirina Sirtis, fix the texture loading, Fix the Mako, Liven up the Citidel, Noveria, and Feros, Give Saren more then just 3 scenes, introduce Batarians earlier, and re-record all of Meer's lines. ME1 was far from perfect.

ME3 multiplayer is a clear shooter "game."

 I remember spending more in the Citadel and Noveria/Feros/etc. talking people rather than being in combat. Even sidequests had a lot of dialogues and choices.

+ ME3 has an improved combat compared to ME and ME2 and less RPG than ME and ME2. ME3 is suited for the casual Call of Duty audience.

It's True combat makes up a great deal of Mass Effect's gameplay, but back in the orginal Mass Effect, Gameplay didn't equal combat, you could just walk around the Citadel, Noveria and some uncharted worlds, ther was exploration, some puzzles, pathfinding, thinking etc but with Mass Effect 2 & 3 Gameplay primarily consists of: Walking, Talking and Shooting, which is fun, but get old very fast.

ME1 suffers mostly because its graphics are so outdated compared with the other 2 games in the triology.

Fix this alone and you have a clear winner.

One thing that is disappointing about ME3 is lack of hubs (or towns). Too many of the interaction with other major NPC took place in the Normandy.

90% of the time you drop into a planet, its fighting all the way, with linear define path.

It would be great, sure, but I would add a few other things aside from combat gameplay:
- NO MORE RECYCLED AREAS: We don't have to forget that there were only 4 type of maps for side-quests(mine, ship, hangar, bunker)
- ME2's minigames.
- General graphics improvement, in my opinion ME1 lacks of details compared to the other two, too sober.
- Presidium, Chora's and Flux are very well as they are, but I think the rest of the Citadel (the vast majority of the wards) must be redesigned, obviously, everything interconnected.

As long as Microsoft owns the publishing rights this will never happen. Would be fun though the game needs some updates, mostly with more variety in level design on side quests, general frame rate issues, then the shooter mechanics which pretty much stink, though I love the game I play it alot even today.

Oh, are we going to pretend that ME1's broken, illconcieved Gameplay is a billion times better then 3's Terror?

Pretty sure there's a Disingenuous Assertion joke in here somewhere.

Hey, I've admitted they nailed the combat in ME3. Level design was good too.

Subpar shooter gameplay and linear levels?

Mass Effect 3's combat is only good when compared to ME/ME2's. Otherwise, it's decent, at best.

I dunno... I mean, as much as I go on about ME3 sucking hard for the most part, I actually preferred the TPS combat more than most TPS games I've played. Definitely better than Gears 1 & 2, Army of Two and Space Marine, IMO, if only for the powers. I haven't played Gears 3 though, so not sure about that. I didn't find ME3's levels linear at all. In a certain sense they were, but they were at least (mostly) vast in size, felt like real locations and actually provided multiple strategies and approaches to combat situations, compared to ME2's which were very limiting and felt fake to boot.

ME1 wasn't standard TPS combat to begin with, and I'd call ME2's combat "subpar shooter gameplay and linear levels" but ME3's combat and levels were better as a whole. Even if it was one of the few things that was (which was kind of my point). All that said, it wasn't worth losing what we did to get it, and it wasn't worth every God-damned skill becoming about combat and nothing else (which is, admittedly, a fault carried over from ME2).

Nope, ME2 would still be the best one. ME1 has far more flaws than its combat.

The dialogue would need a serious rewrite. I'd forgotten how badly implemented the new system was until I replayed ME1 right before ME3 came out.

I'd somewhat disagree with that.  The lack of details gives ME1 an excellent futuristic aesthetic

Even do I love ME2 & ME3, I kinda wish that they were made more like ME1 & DAO. Toning down the corridore shooting, and made it more RPG like with oldschool quests & inventory system.

Was curious how other fans of the series would receive this or perhaps it's been thought of before and I'm late to the party. I was thinking along the lines similar to the treatment done to the original Halo game when they released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary last year. The orignal game in the series re-relased updated into the current engine along with current gameplay.

Part of this is fueled from my personal opinions regarding ME1 having the "best" story and I felt a greater sense of satisfaction upon beating the game than I did with ME2 or 3. However the gameplay did improve in many ways with each game and I feel the original Mass Effect that plays closer to the level of todays iteration would by far be the best in the series. I don't necessarily mean take ME1 story and plug it into ME3s engine, but more like a mulligan with ME1. I also say take another shot at Mako gameplay on planet surfaces, it has a ton of potential, so maybe I'm just crazy?

If it means improve the combat dinamics like ME3 but keep the skill distribution, armor types, the armor selection for you and your squadmates, the ammo types and general upgrades for weapons AND armors...and the Mako, yes it'd be epic, but it won't happen..

It is interesting how ME(1) mirrors aspects of KotoR. Can definitely see the influence of the other games in certain aspects of the mechanics. Interesting from a software perspective (my current line of work). ME had the benefit of being first and introducing the mystery of its universe. The menu music still gives me goosebumps. Just love the music in the first game and especially the music on Ilos. There were things that could have been improved but if it weren't for ME I doubt I'd have jumped into ME2 or ME3.

That said I'd welcome an updated version of ME as long as its core strengths are untouched.

You can't "replace" gameplay mechanics in an already-released game without significantly changing the game code and testing for balance issues. Not to mention that it's impossible anyway, because Microsoft owns the rights to the original game.

I'm all for improving games (I think ME3, in spite of everything around, made the combat system more fluid and refined), but let's get real here. This is just a pipe dream.

ME1 doesnt need a remake.

its perfect as is, and im under the impression bioware would rip out its guts and fill it with global cooldowns, ammo, and remove the mako in favor of that one pink my little pony, or whatever outside trend bioware is pushing in its mass effect universe.

if they flattened out UNC worlds, made the invontory stackable and more organized, and threw in a few more meaningfull mods then id be down. but no, bioware WILL **** IT UP.

I was talking about the single player.

Mass Effect 3 has more dialogue than Mass Effect

ME3 has an improved combat compared to ME and ME2

So? Is mediocre combat inherent to RPGs now? That's a stupid mentality to have.

ME3 is suited for the casual Call of Duty audience.

What's the "casual Call of Duty audience"?

While ME3's gameplay improvements would help, it would take more than that for me to consider ME1 the best of the trilogy.
