In Dragon Age: Origins you're pretty much in charge of the entire story.
I wan't to see different races, different origins and classes/specializations that are contrasting from the other.
I really thought DAII was a step back from Origins. One of the main reasons I love that game was because of the amount of replay value and how the NPCs reacted to you if you were of different race or even class for that matter.
No time to get into real details.

Most people only finish the game once. Most people who played DAO stuck with Human Noble. I myself only6 played one character to completion in DAO. (I tried through the other origins to see if I liked them, decided I prefered the CE origin and abandoned the other characters before or just after Ostagar.) What did multiple origins really do for me, or the other great unwashed masses?

It gave you the possibility to play that CE of yours, me to play a Dalish (and a CE, and a Cousland, and a Surana), and player X to play a dwarf. Without them, we'd all have been stuck with Human Noble or something equivalent.thats1evildude wrote...
As I see it, you played a pre-set story in Origins as well. The Human Noble didn't have the choice to NOT have his/her family slaughtered by the Howes. The Dwarf Commoner didn't choose NOT to work for Beraht and try to fix the Proving. If you were a mage, you had to be a Circle mage — there was no "apostate" or "Dalish Keeper" option.

I agree with your first paragraph, though.

Part of the loss of replayability, for me, I think, comes from the lack of origins and lack of different "perspectives" to put myself in (even if the changes to dialog are superficial after Ostagar, it does give a different "feel"). The other part would be reduced variety in gameplay (specs, talents, equipment, encounters).

DAO gave us different races, different origins, different dialogue options, different ways to complete most quests, lasting consequences for player actions, different endings, etc. (Not to mention being given the freedom to choose your motivation for doing the things you do and being treated differently depending on your race, gender or class, which is essential from a RP perspective.)
Much better than DA2's one race, one origin, three set dialogue choices, only one or two ways to complete most quests, most quests turning out the same no matter what you do, one ending, etc. (Not to mention having your motivations chosen for you, and being treated exactly the same regardless of your gender and class, which decreases RP value and breaks immersion since other NPC's get treated differently for their race, gender and class while you aren't.)
