I don't know what is going on - have played this game previously with no problem but when my character uses this - supposedly successfully - there is no resultant rise in spirit energy - is there something I have forgotten?  Are vampires or dread wraiths not valid targets?

Vampires shouldn't ever be valid targets for spirit eater abilities, since they neither have a soul nor are they a spirit.

Using suppress in the presence of wraiths should provide some bonus spirit energy, but according to the description of the feat it's only a very small amount for each spirit in a 20m radius.

It's been a while since I used Suppression on any undead (see below for reason), so I couldn't actually remember. So I just ran a couple experiments...

First, you can't target ANY hostile creature with Suppress; you target yourself or a friend.

Second, YES, you will gain spirit energy from suppressing near both vampires and dread wraiths. In fact, supressing next to two ancient vampires attacking me topped me off from 91 SE.

But ... (here's why you don't do that) ... you should eat them. Either Devour or Eternal Rest will yield MUCH more Spirit Energy, plus Brilliant Spirit Essences; plus you can do it practically unlimited times a day (whatever their "day" is divided into their "five-minute" cool-off periods works out to be).

I am playing lawful/good 100/100. I just summonded an elder elemental and the Orglash and used supress and it did absolutely nothing. I have tried both supressing and eating the vampires and dread wraiths - absolutely no effect on spirit level. The only time my spirit level was affected was when I used eternal rest on the spirits in the furnace. My character is now down to 19 spirit level and nothing is working. Is this a bug?

You're at 19 SE and you've used Suppress - you've got problems. You should rest immediately - don't wait (or empty an urn if you haven't already broken them all). With luck, you'll be attacked and you can Eternal Rest someone right away.

Don't ER the target first thing - beat on him until he's in the red "nearly dead" category. Then your ER will kill him AND deliver all his remaining hit points to you as SE. A few minutes later, you can do it again. You should be back to 100 pretty shortly.

p.s. You say you're Lawful 100?! You didn't rat out my buddy Shelvedar, did you?!?  Posted Image

If it works on vampires, then It sounds like Suppress works in conjunction with Eternal Rest. Does it also work in conjunction with Devour Soul?

It might just be alignment-centric - Devour Soul/Eternal Rest are.

Again, I don't remember whether Devour Soul works on vampires per se;  my evil avatars definitely farmed Myrkul's place for Spirit Essence as much as anyone else, but they might have stuck to devouring wraiths.
