Shepard's Canon LI

Poll: http://social.biowar...14/polls/32943/
Mine is Tali because of the mystery that Tali actually has. We don't see her face, but this better allows for the player to connect with her character and beliefs. Plus, out of all of the potential LI's, Tali is amongst the most loyal squadmates since she stuck by shepard since the first game.
Other Thoughts?

Anyway I don't really like the idea of a canon LI because I think the choice of the LI depends on (at least for me) which Shepard you're trying to play. So I don't really have one for me... although I do have a "canon" LI for each of my Shepards depending on their personalities and tastes. I try to pick the one they're more likely to fall in love with in my eyes.
Now if I had to choose... I guess, since my favourite Shep is a Garrusmancer, and since he's my favourite character for being both adorkable and badass, I'd vote for him.
In the end it's all a matter of taste

So if you love Liara, she should be your canon!LI. If you love Ashley, she's the canon!LI for you. Same for Kaidan, Miranda, Jacob, Thane, Cortez, Tali - you name it.
And how? Easy. BW had the chance to make this happen in ME3. They didn't use the chance, either of economical reasons or because their writers simply loved a certain character more than others. Maybe they used the feedback of the fans to find out which romance should feel "more" canon than others. Who knows.
If I had the chance, any romance would feel equally satisfying. No Jacob-fiasco, no generic lines for Thane, regardless if you romanced him or not. That prayer should have been reserved for Thanemancers, not for the random guy who has no real connection to him, for example.
But since I voted for an option, it was Ash for me. She's -my- canon!LI.

Everyone has their own canon LI, some no LI at all. But it is easy to see that the devs have a personal interest in Liara. . .

As Tiberis mentioned about those missing, why is Kirrahe (also misspelled in the poll) and Marauder Shields there instead of the ones Shepard can actually romance?

Bioware's is Liara, but I no longer take their opinion into account since KotORI don't see why you would get to make choices during a game and then get told a "canon" version that contradicts your own story. That's not only Bioware's doing though, for example the first Fallout games did it too, sadly.

Canon only really carries over to alternate mediums. You can't maintain unique experiences, realisticly and cost effectively, to the many different ways they try to expand on the stories. Books, comics, etc. Because of that there will *always* be a canon even if it's never mentioned.
But, the way interactive mediums like video games work, allow for many different isolated stories. You could say that canon is just choosing one story to continue. It does not effect the other stories being there or happening. It doesn't undermine your own shepards story because it is a unique experience that is produced by the player during their game.
It's the nature of the medium.

And honestly when it comes to creating a personal story throughout three games, Mass Effect does a terrific job.

Mine is Kaidan, but for Bioware its obviously Liara. That explains why she follows Shepard everywhere and doesnt respect his/her personal space.

There should be no "canon" choices as far as Shepard is concerned. That includes background, LI, and plot decisions (saving the Rachni queen, saving the geth vs. the quarians, etc)

My point is, that for me there was too much of Liara around. Kind of a forced friendship. Like leaning her head on the Shepard´s shoulder before the Final Push, so much hugging during her own DLC, was there a holding hands too? and only paragon interups when she is talking (why is it that Kaidan or Mordin got renegade interups when they were talking normally - when Kaidan only mentioned he was worried about his father and Mordin was just Mordin).
Basically whole ME was a lot about her. Her mother, and then her father, Shadow Broker, she had to be on Mars - first mission you get after leaving Earth, there was a lot of cutscenes with her and all that attention she got after Thessia (what about Garrus after Palaven?, why not Shepard after Thessia?).
Why not the others. Why not Miranda? Her story had amazing possibilities
in the third game. She should have been be in Cerberus base. To have
one of the TIM most trusted officers on your side and not use it in the
game where you are fighting Cerberus is just a lost chance.
No one else got this much attention. And you cant even refuse her presence (aka kill her off) as you can with others - its 3 times player can get rid of VS, you are even able to kill of Garrus or Tali (Tali twice) but not Liara. You can kill Wrex, Mordin, Miranda, Legion, Jack, Thane, Samara, Kirrahe.....
But not her. She is cannon LI - Bioware favourite, Bioware approved.
So if you are not into Liara, you get Liara overdose.
I have nothing against her, I like how she grown up since the first game, but somethimes I thought she had too much attention.

Perfect way to sum it up in 1 sentence.
She simply has so much more content credited to her than anyone else, except Shepard (Obviously).

However...If the ME saga is made into a movie...It's very clear the "canon" LI will be Liara. She is the only one guaranteed to survive to the end and she is the second most plot relevant character. Plus she is the only character besides Tali that is basically in love with Shepard even if you don't romance her.
