Remember that Liara didn't have a role in Mass Effect 2.

If you really want to avoid Liara, romance her.....she'll hardly speak to you.

Liara is in the game because she is the only character who can't die? That would be my bet, plus she is really useful squadmate. Like others have said you can ignore her 95 percent of the time if you'd like.

...She had her own DLC.

And three comics, though that is ancillary.

Liara doesn't actually have any more dialogue than EDI, and James also has quite a lot. Why? Because she's the only one from the previous games who is definitely never dead. It makes a lot of sense that Bioware would write the most lines for her, purely from a practical writing perspective, because she's one of only a few characters whose dialogue will never be wasted, and the only one besides Joker (who also has something to say about everything) from the original crew.

Oh I agree, they made her look like a fool in ME3, but it's not really right to hate on the character because of the person that wrote her. I mean there was so much potential with her being the Shadow Broker, it's possible they didn't want it to be too overpowered.

I don't understand why diehard Liara fans stand by her development; sure screen time for your favourite character is nice, but not when it's painfully bad. T'Soni has about 4-5 different personalities through the course of the series (including comics). Less is definitely more in this case.

And yeah, her being the Shadow Broker was such a ridiculous waste.

Well, she couldn´t really continue being the nervous nerd cause that role became occupied by Tali in ME2.

Genuine query as I've not posted here for long. But what with the 'What's with all the Liara in my soup game?' threads, I have to ask, were there a lot of complaints about Alistair's bigger role in DA: Origins? Cos it seems like a fairly similar situation.

You know, her nervous banter/babbling if you romance her and as for her nerdiness.... Well, I think you will have a hard time finding anyone else in the ME universe who knows his/her´s way around an omni-tool like Tali;)

I'm not saying less Liara, I just don't like the fact that she seemed to get preference in every single instance compared to other main characters. I know there had to be someone else integral to the plot other than Shepard but it felt like I was always one wrong move from being ninjamanced. I also hate the fact that they made Shepard think about Liara by default regardless of what LI they have during the ending part when they also think about Anderson and Joker.

Ah see, none of that matters. The main reason people enjoy piling on Liara now is because they chose someone else to romance and Bioware did a ****** poor job on pretty much everything not Tuchanka and Rannoch.

And as a Liaramancer, her romance wasn't without issue. It's got unfixable bugs unless you use gibs save editor [Not that, you know... Facts matter to people complaining about Liara in the face of that truly mind numbingly bad ending]

Because she's lovely :)

Even if you don't romance her, she believes in your cause, knows you are the only one who can achieve this objective and wants to support you as much as she can. It's called being a friend O_O It's the same reason Joker is in the game more, he's just trying to support you.

I imagine there were. People always complain about "writer's pet" when a character they don't like is the main focus.

I'm a Liara fan and I don't mind people hating her, but seriously, another thread?  I've said it in the other anti-Liara thread and I'll say it again.

BECAUSE.

PLOT.

DEVICE.

Also she is the only crew member who will live longer than most of the others.  Sure there is some bias towards her as a love interest, but *shrug*.  She's still an integral part of the storyline.

I didn't even romance Liara and, while I'm not happy that her romance scene got more than the rest, I still like her character and don't feel like during the important missions they just threw her in there just to.  She's the only one who knows the most about the Protheans.

Other than... you know... an actual Prothean. Yep she seemed to know a whole lot about Javik.

Yes because Liara knows every single detail about the Protheans...and Javik was the one who found the crucible.

Oh wait...

This thread deserves to be trolled since it is the billionth damn thread whining about Liara. And Liara doesn't deserve this she is one of the kindest, gentlest, and hottest characters in the series.

OP without Liara there would be no Shepard and No Mass Effect. She is one of the most important characters in ME. She is also not my fav, etc. But I do recognize the very important role she plays within Mass Effect.

ME1-Mind Melds find Beacons etc,her help is essential to completing ME1.= ME1 is unbeatable without Liara.
ME2- Recovers Shepard, the sole reason Cerberus can rebuild Shepard.=No ME2 without Liara. She also helps on Illium slightly, and LotSB is a beast.
ME3-She & Hackett find the Crucible plans, our best chance at defeating the Reapers. Glyph upgrades my tech.
Her role is important,as she has done a great deal for Shepard, potentially more then any other in the entire galaxy.

Why Her? She is a full-time biotic coming into her own, because of Shepard's influence. She has no outside obligations other then being the Shadow Broker. Her main goal is to stop the Reapers, not retake Rannoch,Cure the
Krogans etc.

Alistair could be killed or traded for Loghain.

The only flaw of this thread is that it doesn't mention the fact that the trilogy is also oversaturated with Tali & Garrus

I'd say some shuttle pilot got way too much scenes and lines as well.
