Oh Fans, What Have You Done? FemShep is a Neanderthal!

But as I was verifying that, I read this...
On the sexuality of women in the game, Silverman defended the gratuitous shots of crew member Miranda's bottom as necessary for her character.
"The fact is, some characters are defined by their attractiveness, such as a woman who is genetically engineered to be perfect," Silverman declared.
"Camera angles help tell the story and portray key aspects of each character - in Miranda's case, her curves and sexuality.
"We had similar shots of Jacob," he added.
That last part. Oh, so funny. I didn't catch those shots. And Jacob is smooth as a ken doll anyhow.

I don't see what the issue is.
Everyone seems to use custom faces anyway.
Jacob did have those shots. How could you NOT notice?

And Silverman knows that is utter sh*te. He would have an argument if he commented on her garb, which makes sense for her character (less so in combat, however). But having the camera linger on her body whilst she rails against her lifelong treatment as a tool or a means to an end? That is counterproductive.
I actually thought the arse attacks were mildly funny my first few times through, but trying to claim such blatant fanservice is a "narrative tool"...Surely better lies could be thought up than that.
I didn't notice my first two or three runs, I admit it. Might be correlated with the fact I generally avoided him, though.Jacob did have those shots. How could you NOT notice?

Actually it is.
I harken back to film studies.
Woman in general are framed in one of three ways.
The face:
The backside:
Or from the breasts up.
Depending on where you frame the shot, you can make an assesment of where the chracter stands.
When framed from below, you assign importance to the character, that is to say you assign power. You "look up" at them. Miranda is an overbearing presence in the game and the shots reflect that. Ever notice how she is framed from the chest up? That's a neutral position. When her face is framed you are supposed to pay attention to her and her alone.
That's what it means.
Her outfit is what gets people riled up because it's so tight, and in that regard I shake my finger at Bioware.

I'm not contending that they can be used in such a manner. They often are. What I do dispute is that this was BioWare's intention.Taboo-XX wrote...

The only reason put any meaning to it is because of the suit she wears.
Women are framed that way in films.
All. The. Time.
And so are men.

No, I thought you were frustrated about just having her backside being framed the way it was.
I don't really care about the way her backside is framed though, I just really like the character.

To be fair, the game doesn't do much justice to the model itself. But in the end it's all a matter of personal preference.
