Because it's not gonna happen. There's a reason for the brick wall of an ending.

My friend, you are so deep in denial I'm going to have to fly down to Egypt to pull you out.

With the endings, they made a perfect opportunity for a post-apocalyptic MMO that forces a bunch of species together in a small area of space. That means players can be any species they want, and can all be in the same setting. I'm also betting you that's why they don't want to change the endings, because they've got a good springboard into something else they're planning.

I personally think it's a bad move. I hate MMOs for the same reason I love SP RPGs: I don't like playing online with a bunch of strangers. The MP in ME3 was okay because I can occasionally get friends together to play it, but playing with randoms is scary to me.

It also takes away the intimacy a SP offers. I don't want to get so involved in a cutscene, have it end, then then see dozens of other players doing the same thing.

Plus, the Chuck Norris jokes get old really fast.<_<

This is horrifying, I am so grateful this never happened. Although, I fully expect James Vega to star in a game like this, as EA can't help themselves (look at the James Vega anime...barf).

this can be interesting (copy UT, BF... but i like it)

Also, as per topic: because I stopped caring about random fetch quests ages ago, hence why I hated the majority of sidequests in ME3.  Still, "fetch 10 Krogan testicles" would be a whole new level of suck.

Also, I don't care about a multiplayer experience while talking on vent.  Though this can be fun, I should be engaged in a game from single player alone, before committing to multiplayer.

If they went through with it, I imagine them having some contingency plan in place regarding TOR players, something like the first several months of play being free, invites to beta, etc. Though having said that, I can't imagine an ME MMO being ready whilst TOR is still active anyway.
Even if you rush an MMO, it still takes a long time and so when it would finally be ready, most people will have probably already forgotten about TOR and maybe even ME itself.
I can't imagine Bioware dropping the good things from TOR - fully voice acted, individual story arcs for classes and having some kind of Renegade/Paragon replacement for LS/DS.
I'd like to see an MMO that instead of having factions like they usually do, they instead had your allegiance decided via actions and interactions throughout the story. I think the trend towards 'you're x class or race, so belong to y faction' is outdated. I think the Legacy system went some way towards improving this, but more or less your race was completely irrelevant anyway.
Likewise I don't really think the Pandaran decision coming to WoW really helps either. That game could really have done with a third faction of 'independents' or at least allow you to be unaffiliated with either Horde or Alliance. Almost all the factions you work for are neutral anyway, and almost always have a superior goal to either main faction.
However I think they'll also likely neglect to improve on the bad, with the stupid amount of servers spreading the playerbase far too thinly being the one that really stands out. So many servers and none of them are anywhere near full.
WoW still has a lot of servers, but they also still have some that are at full capacity (Argent Dawn in Europe is still pretty much always at full, for example).
None of that's even taking into account that Mass Effect worked almost exclusively because we became truly invested in our character and our companions, who was charged with a seemingly impossible mission. In an MMO, our individual story would be so trivial by comparison.

I get that they would likely try and throw in a new super threat, but the only one that seems plausible at this time is if Shepard not only decided to Control the Reapers, but also seemed on the brink of doing something with them.
Technically, the tension could work very well, as we would be left wondering if the machinations were in preparation of returning to the cycle, or there was something worse out there.
In practice it'd probably feel like Arthas, waiting in the shadows with his vast army marching forth, which in turn is not unlike most visions of supposedly super powerful rulers in fantasy who only appear near the end - sometimes redeemed, oftentimes simply vanquished.

On a side note though, I can't see an ME MMO arriving this side of 2017 (given that it's not been announced, that it would likely be in development for at least three or so years, and adding about a year until the former), and though I think WoW will still be going, by that time it'll be likely have started to wind down - or at least, one would hope. Nothing should have the monopoly, especially not for so long. 2017 would be... 13 years of WoW?
If they're still aiming to end the game once level 100 is reached, that leaves two more expansions after Mists, and with roughly two years between each means that the last one would be out in roughly 2018, though that's being slightly cynical and assuming they'll push for them to be released more or less on precisely two years. Theoretically, even if they do stop at level 100, we could still be seeing WoW expansions getting new content into 2020.

Anyway, I just think an ME MMO would end badly, if only because they'd need to be pretty radical in their design, and would have to set it in the past to cancel out the potential disparities of the endings.

Why would BioWare worry about MMO or even any new Mass Effects when this one isn't done? Maybe they should take their own advice.

"Jack: Now take your balls out of your purse and kick some ass."

It's time to fix it BioWare.

I imagine that if a Mass Effect MMO is made, I would prefer it to be more like EVE online.

A sandbox driven game where you can make choices, both small and large, that have their consequences. The more freedom they give the player, the better.

Don't remind me, I played it for years...like, realtime years. The character skill system is unique and annoying all at the same time.

I digress...MMO's in general have become coma inducing copy/paste time sinks. You just can't create a dynamic world when you need to make 1.21 bajillion people feel like the hero. FPS has lost it's luster as well...damn, now that I think about it, I'll stay away from online games. Image IPB

You guys seem fairly informed about EVE.

Question: With a few changes here and there, wouldn't a Mass Effect MMO be fun if it followed a similar sandbox style game?

EVE is a unique animal in the MMO world. It is brutal to new players, literally takes years for character skills to develope, and is completely player driven storywise. Sure they have missions thrown in there with themes for major updates, but for the most part player corporations rule the game.

Perhaps a toned down version of EVE might work, I don't know....it just seems like it would be difficult trying to develope content fast enough to keep the playerbase happy. People content-crush so fast now...they just lose interest, which is why CCP wanted the stories to be player driven. The game can feel like a second job too...and since it is one open universe, if your rep takes a hit...well, you are SoL. Now that I think of it...glad I stopped playing, lol.

Because as much as I liked the stories and character creation in SWTOR, it's controls and gameplay mechanics are far too frustrating to use.

Sorry bioware, but I'll be sticking to the console from now on.

Because I have no interest in MMO's and it would be the final nail in the coffin for the Mass Effect franchise....
